The Divine Wolf... or?

Chapter 228: Making a Move.

Just as the children started running, the temperature in the air suddenly lowered by several degrees. Ephine who had been watching this entire time could feel her emotions surging as the children ran for their lives. Maybe it was because Atar was right next to her, but she calmed down a little and started using magic without thinking much about it.

Several lances made out of different elements materialised around her and then flew out at a blistering speed. The human family thought they were being attacked, and they resigned themselves to their fate, there was no way for them to stop magic like this. But to their surprise, the magic whistled right past them and headed for the demons behind.

The leader of the demons was a little flustered by the sudden attack, but he reacted quickly and sliced the lance flying at him in half with his sword. The resulting explosion was something he didn't expect, and ice fragments of various sizes burrowed into his body, making him bleed all over. With a furious roar, the demon commanded his underlings to attack.

However, after waiting for more than a second, he looked over in confusion and noticed that all of his underlings had already died from the earlier attack.

Before he could gather his thoughts, the two silhouettes in the distance suddenly walked over, and they could finally be seen by both the demon and the family. Although they could all guess that they weren't demons, after seeing a young woman and a small boy walk over, everyone was dumbfounded.

The demon noticed the fluctuating mana around the woman with a frosty expression on her face, and he looked at her with deep hatred.

"Who the hell are you to interfere huh? Shouldn't someone powerful like you be protecting the city? What the fuck are you doing out here you-"

Before he could finish what he was saying, Atar took a step forward, and the ground cracked under his feet. In the next moment, Atar had already arrived in front of the demon and aimed a punch at his chest.

Bang!

The demon had no time to react, and a large gaping hole opened up in his chest, his heart nowhere to be seen. After standing up in a daze for a second, the demon fell over, all signs of life gone.

"Hmph, that's what you get for looking at mama like that."

To the family of four, the whole experience was surreal, and they didn't know what to do. What had they just witnessed? Wasn't this just a child? How was he so strong? After walking over to his mom, Atar looked at her with an expression that implied he wanted something. Seeing him act cute like this, Ephine giggled a little before picking him up and embracing him tightly.

The father of the family finally reacted and walked over to Ephine with a solemn expression on his face.

"Thank you so much for saving us, I don't know how I could ever repay this gratitude."

"Don't worry about it, anyone in my situation would've done the same. My name's Ephine, and this little guy is my son Atar."

The man was taken aback by her nonchalant answer, but he nonetheless introduced himself and his family.

"My name is Edward, this is my wife Sharon, and these are our two children, Cecily and John."

After being introduced, Sharon walked over hesitantly to stand next to her husband, behind her, Cecily and John were hiding, peeking at Ephine and Atar every now and then, full of innocent curiosity towards their saviours. Sharon had a hesitant expression on her face as if she wanted to ask something, and Ephine easily saw through her.

"Is something the matter?"

"Since a powerful fighter like you is all the way out here, is the city... lost?"

Hearing the question, Ephine was a little taken aback at first, before she finally reacted. Before she could respond, an earth-shattering howl resounded through the forest, shaking the trees until they almost fell over on the spot. Even the clouds in the sky seemed to be affected, as they disappeared into thin air. Seeing this Ephine smiled gently, and looked over at Sharon.

"No, the city is far from lost."

...

A few minutes earlier.

...

Ark was speeding along the road at the fastest speed he could go aside from teleporting. Eventually, he arrived at the city, and the scene he witnessed filled his heart with fury. The city was on fire, and amidst the sounds of the blazing flames and the endless fighting, the harrowing screams of the citizens caught in the crossfire filled Ark's ears, and his expression darkened.

Without wasting any time, Ark flew up high into the air above the city and looked down with a determined expression.

Although he had managed to train his skills somewhat, he was going to use a combination he had never tried before, and he was unsure how well it would work. With determination, Ark opened his mouth, sucked in a deep breath of air, and howled as hard as he could. Ark used his [Sovereign's Howl] and combined it with his [Chaos Domain], but aside from those two, Ark also combined them with light magic.

Ark infused 70% of his total mana in this skill, and the results were evident.

The sudden howl completely broke down the battlefield, as the power contained in it pressured every single combatant that was fighting down on the ground, making them unable to move a single finger. They struggled as hard as they could, but it only exhausted them more, and there was no way for them to move.

Aside from that, the fires all around the city spontaneously extinguished, and a gentle holy light scattered around, healing the wounds of all the common people that were still alive.

The fighters who saw this were dumbfounded, as they had no idea what was going on. The whole situation was absurd. Because of Ark's pressure, the fighters on both sides lost their fighting strength and stamina, and any further battle was unnecessary. This battle was effectively over.

As the fighters looked up at the sky to see who had attacked them, the common people also looked up at the sky, but to thank their saviour.

"If a battle of yours drags in the common people like this again, I will come for you all, and make sure you follow them in death."

With a booming voice, Ark's voice spread throughout the city. Because he was using soul power, the fighters on both sides would never be able to forget what Ark had said, as it was basically carved into their soul.

After making sure his message was heard, Ark suddenly disappeared, leaving the chaotic city behind. The demons had no choice but to retreat since they couldn't keep fighting like this, and peace eventually returned to the city. Ark didn't know it yet, but his actions today would come to spread throughout the continent eventually, earning him a moniker. The holy wolf of Moonhill.

Even if he knew, he wouldn't think too much of it, right now, Ark was more occupied by thoughts of his new skills. Although he had used the combination, it had ultimately been a gamble. He was just happy everything worked out alright.
