Chapter 17 - I’ll Take It
Jeanne's sudden action startled even Liane and Owen, who froze on the spot.
"What are you doing standing there? Hurry up and go to bed!"
Jeanne looked at Augustus with resentment in her gaze.
Instead of anger, Augustus felt more guilt towards Jeanne. He turned around and went into the room.
"Jeanne, I…"
Augustus opened his mouth to explain.
Smack!
A crisp sound was heard as Jeanne slapped her own face mercilessly.
"Jeanne, what are you doing?"
Jeanne's face was cold. "Mom and Dad were furious. If I didn't do that, it would be hard to defuse their anger. We're even now."
Augustus was stunned. At that moment, he finally understood Jeanne's good intentions.
"Jeanne, thank you."
However, Jeanne quickly raised her hand and said, "Don't misunderstand. I'm doing all this for Skylar."
"I understand."
All these years, Jeanne had always been the same Jeanne.
"Jeanne, what happened today was my fault for not taking your feelings into consideration, but don't worry. Since I caused the trouble, I'll definitely find a way to solve it."
Jeanne smiled bitterly. "You'll solve it? If you leave the Harrington family, you won't even be able to cook a meal. How are you going to solve this? Well, don't worry about this matter anymore. Grandma is angry now, but maybe she'll change her mind in a couple of days."
Augustus knew that Jeanne obviously did not hold any hope for him.
He then suddenly thought of something and quickly took out a bank card from his pocket.
"Jeanne, since our family's dividends were cut off, you can use the money in this card first. The pin number is your birthday."
Augustus said and handed the bank card over.
This bank card was a new one that Augustus had issued, but he did not deposit the entire 100 million in it. After all, it would be hard to explain where the 100 million came from.
Jeanne looked at the card in Augustus's hand and felt like she had heard the most ridiculous joke in the world. She laughed so hard that she could not stand up straight.
"Augustus, you don't have to joke with me. I'm not desperate enough to the point of needing your help!"
"That's not what I meant. This matter is my fault, so I just want to make up for it."
Augustus knew that with Jeanne's temper, she would never accept his money, so he put the card straight into Jeanne's purse.
"Forget it. Do whatever you want."
Jeanne knew very well that there was not much money in the card, so she did not bother to waste her breath on Augustus. She went straight to bed.
Augustus took out his own foldable bed and spread it out in the corner of the bedroom.
Yes, all these years, this was how Jeanne and he had lived, except for the time when they got drunk...
As the night grew darker, Augustus's gaze glanced at the direction of the king-sized bed.
Under the dim light, Jeanne's posture lying on her side was curvy like rolling mountains, outlining a stunning scenery that had people's eyes lingering.
Augustus was also a normal man, so it was impossible for him not to be moved by such a beautiful woman every night. However, what he wanted was not simply a moment of pleasure.
Over the years, Augustus realized that he developed feelings for this woman who was cold on the outside but kind on the inside. Furthermore, they already had Skylar.
Augustus believed that one day, he would see the silver lining to his cloud!
Early morning the next day, Augustus took Skylar to preschool on an electric bike.
"Jeanne, have you thought over what I told you about yesterday? When are you going to divorce that loser?"
It was not the first time Liane mentioned a divorce to Jeanne.
"Mom, I've told you many times already that since we have Skylar, I won't divorce him!"
"No! It was fine if it was before, but he ruined our family. You have to divorce him! If you don't divorce him, then don't call me Mom anymore!"
Liane was uncompromising in usual times, and was even more forceful now.
Jeanne felt a headache. Just when she did not know what to do, her phone rang.
This call was like a life-saver.
"Mom, it's from the company. Let's stop talking here."
Then, she rushed out of the house.
"Hello, Miss Harrington, this is the Chanel outlet in Halmont. The latest bag of the season you were waiting for has arrived. However, we have limited stock, so if you want it, you should come as soon as possible.
Jeanne was pleasantly surprised to hear this news.
Like other women, Jeanne had always had a high pursuit for things like bags.
This new bag which she saw in a magazine before had been on her radar for a long time.
Now that it finally arrived at Halmont, she naturally would not let it go.
After hanging up, Jeanne drove directly to the mall.
When she saw the bag of her dreams at the window, she became incredibly excited.
This bag was simply made for her. It ticked all her aesthetics!
Without any hesitation, she said to the sales clerk, "Hello, I'll take this bag. Please get it for me."
"Certainly, Ma'am!"
Jeanne was just about to pick it up when the bag in front of her was snatched away by another person.
A middle-aged woman with a bloated physique and luxurious clothes looked at the bag in her hand and said proudly, "This is a nice bag. I'll take it!"
