Chapter 183
183 Walk in the garden (2)
“It must have been nice for you to run off to your grandmother when you did not want to be around your parents. There was a tree I used to run to hide from my father but it got cut down so I remained in my room,” Alessandra said as they walked around the garden.
“I take it you don’t have a relationship with any of your grandparents?”
“No. On my father’s side, like everyone else, they stopped caring after my face was ruined. There was nothing about me to boast about to their friends so I was useless. I learned at a young age that my talent for painting or anything else did not matter. As a girl, my value was my beauty. I don’t have any memories of my mother’s parents. I wonder if they are still alive,” Alessandra now wondered if they had long passed.
“Would you want to find them? It shouldn’t be hard for me to do. All I need are their names. Do you want to find them?” Edgar asked first as it was possible she might not want to see any family members both from her mother’s and father’s side after they had not shown interest in her existence.
“When it comes to my mother’s parents, I honestly do not know. I wonder if they knew where she ran off 5o. I think about their reasons for not checking on the child my mother left behind. I would like to meet them but then again, I don’t want to be met with people just like everyone else,” Alessandra said, afraid her grandparents would be like the rest of her family.
She did not want to add more toxic people to her life when she was starting to feel happy.
“What if your mother were to one day show up before you looking to apologize and make up for the time the two of you lost? Would you accept her apology and welcome her into your life?” Edgar asked.
“I’ve always thought if she returned sorry for leaving me behind, I would forgive her but if she did not regret it, I would not care for her. It’s hard to trust that anyone who shows up before me in the future cares for me. They might just wish to be close to a Duchess because why now are you interested in my life? I am perfectly fine with being on my own,” Alesandra added as her words seemed too depressing.
Hearing this, Edgar picked up her hand to show the finger with their wedding ring, “You are no longer alone. You are married.”
.....
“Right. I married someone who also likes to be alone. I’ve only now realized that we have that in common. Let’s talk about something else,” Alessandra said as she didn’t like thinking about her past relationships with her family. “Are we going to return tonight for dinner?”
“Why should we?” Edgar bluntly replied. He liked being around his grandmother but this would mean they would have to waste an entire day being around other people. “Tomorrow is another day. We can have dinner with her then.”
“Have you reached your social limit?” Alessandra chuckled.
“Yes.”
“Well, I don’t blame you. Perhaps Daniel would not be here if we come for dinner tomorrow night. It would be nice to just be with your grandmother. You and Dominic seem to get along well. Are the two of you close?” Alessandra asked as during breakfast the two of them engaged in a civil conversation while each time Daniel spoke up they would both roll their eyes.
“Quite. Our grandmothers would have us play with each other when we were young to be close in the future. We’re only a few months apart from each other and we have always gotten along with each other. Whenever he visits Lockwood he would stay with me. His brother on the other hand is another story. I’ll fire spears on the sight of him approaching my land,” said Edgar.
The moment Daniel started talking was when Edgar lost interest in him.
“So Dominic is the Edgar Collins of the Carson family?”
“Certainly not,” Edgar quickly disagreed with her. “There is no one else like your wonderful husband. I thought you had learned that by now.”
Alessandra couldn’t argue with that as she had not met anyone like Edgar. He was one of a kind probably due to the fact the world would not be able to handle two of him. “My mistake. I should be aware of that.”
“Let’s move onto a more amusing topic. When do you expect us to start making that baby you promised my grandmother? I’m ready all now,” Edgar stated and enjoyed with great amusement how Alessandra blushed and almost tripped once again.
Surely Alessandra had not thought he would forget this.
“Edgar, you know I only said that to make your grandmother happy. We have done nothing to be thinking about children. Why did you have to bring that up?” Alessandra muttered as she walked ahead of Edgar. “Why is everyone so concerned about children? We have just gotten married and we are young. There’s plenty of time for me to give you an heir.”
“Heirs,” Edgar corrected her. “I told you I’ve changed my mind about only wanting one heir. I have too many assets for one to take care of.”
“You did not think that before we got married. Remember that I am aware you only wanted an heir but if you couldn’t find someone to marry, you would adopt,” Alessandra recalled what she had been told.
“Am I not allowed to change my mind? Besides, we cannot control how many children we will have in the future. You wouldn’t want to subject yourself to those painful procedures to stop having children or to get rid of a child, would you? Many have died from doing so. Our doctors are not Gods and they do not have enough information about our bodies.”
“We can not be intimate,” Alessandra stated the obvious. That was the surest way to not have another child.
Edgar clicked his tongue and almost laughed at her saying that so confidently. “We shall see if you can keep your hands off of me once we’ve started.”
‘I can. It’s always you touching me,’ Alessandra thought.
