Chapter 29
Chapter 29
EP.29 They Pray and Regret (2)
“What’s this?”
The first reaction came from the Holy Knights belonging to Team 1, who had chosen the far-left path.
“This was supposed to be a dungeon?”
Eric spoke with a surprised tone. They had come here simply to find a vampire, and the scene before them was entirely unexpected.
The vast plaza was populated only by skeletons. To pass to the other side, they would have to deal with these undead creatures first.
“At least they are just skeletons.”
Thomas drew his sword with a relieved expression. Unexpected as it was for this place to be a dungeon, it could be considered lucky for them, as Thomas mentioned. After all, the biggest threat to them in the Undead category, like skeletons, was the Holy Knights themselves.
In contrast to Undead creatures with the Dark attribute, Holy Knights possessed the Holy attribute. Considering this elemental affinity alone, the Holy Knights had a significant advantage.
Knowing this fact, they couldn’t help but smile naturally.
Thomas raised his sword, his voice filled with determination.
“We’ll finish this quickly.”
But Thomas’s words were never completed. A skeleton soldier rushed towards him and, before long, exploded.
In the place where Thomas had stood, no one was left. Only chunks of meat and equipment littered the floor, indicating someone’s presence.
“Scatter and activate your shields! It’s corpse explosion!”
“Damn it! If it’s a corpse explosion, that means there’s a Lich!”
A Lich. It was a 4-star monster that belonged to the Undead category and was capable of using magic. Dealing with them was not easy, as was evident just now.
Corpse explosions were their skill, allowing them to detonate Undead monsters, provided they were of a lower grade. Inside the dungeon, there were quite a few 1-star skeleton soldiers. It was a tough situation.
As the skeleton soldiers rushed towards the Holy Knights, the Lich triggered corpse explosions.
“Activate your shields and hold on!”
Eric shouted with a stern expression. How long could the shields withstand this? They hoped it would last for a while.
Everyone shared the same thought. Corpse explosions were ultimately a drain on resources. Since it was a skill that detonated Undead monsters, it would deplete their numbers.
Consequently, if they could hold on a little longer, there would be no more Undead monsters to detonate, and that would lead to a lack of monsters guarding the dungeon.
So, they thought that if they endured just a bit longer, they would eventually win.
Their numbers weren’t infinite, after all.
-Thud. Thud.-
“If we hold out a bit longer!”
The Lich was consuming the skeleton soldiers aggressively. This meant that there would be significantly fewer skeletons remaining.
In the end, it was a self-destructive attack.
Continuing to consume them like this would eventually leave them with no more Undead monsters to detonate.
But the scene that played out was different from what they had expected.
-Thump. Thump.-
From somewhere, even more skeleton soldiers appeared. There were significantly more of them than before.
“This can’t be…”
It was despairing. At that moment, Eric saw the Lich.
“The Lich is over there!”
If they could eliminate the Lich, the corpse explosions would no longer occur. Dealing with the remaining Undead would be a much simpler task.
Eric raised his sword towards the direction where the Lich was.
“Goddess, please have mercy on your young souls and grant me the power to eradicate evil.”
A holy radiance enveloped the blade, and as Eric swung his sword high…
The sacred light in the form of a sword flew straight at the Lich.
Kwak-
The radiance they had unleashed seemed to have hit the Lich head-on, and where the Lich had been, dust scattered as thick smoke rose.
“Alright!”
Everyone cheered. The attack had clearly landed.
Soon, the smoke dissipated.
“No!”
To their dismay, the Lich was unharmed. In fact, they faced an even worse situation. Someone had appeared in front of the Lich, holding a shield.
A knight whose entire body was stained black.
A monster that should never have existed here.
“…Death Knight.”
Everyone froze in place at the appearance of the Death Knight.
‘Why?’
‘Why is there a Death Knight here?’
All of them simultaneously had the same thoughts, rolling their eyes in disbelief.
The Death Knight was a 5-star monster. If such a presence existed, they should have noticed it in advance. However, the opponent had appeared suddenly, as if falling from the sky. No matter how much they thought about it, it made no sense.
And what was the shield the Death Knight was holding?
Eric mumbled as he looked at something in front of the shield.
“A maid’s outfit…?”
Hanging in front of the shield was a maid’s outfit. The attire was the same maid’s outfit Celia used to wear. This particular maid’s outfit was an S-grade costume with an option that could neutralize up to 90% of an opponent’s attack power containing Holy attributes.
However, it was no longer needed since the owner had recently provided a new outfit. Thus, the maid’s outfit was attached to the shield, allowing the undead to overcome their sole weakness, the Holy attributes, to some extent.
But since the Holy Knights were unaware of this fact, they were left bewildered.
“Ha… Hahaha.”
It was unbelievable. This was a situation that should not have occurred.
Eric burst into laughter as if he had gone mad.
-Thud Thud-
Of course, that didn’t mean the battle had stopped. The Lich continued to trigger corpse explosions, pressuring the Holy Knights.
“Get a grip, Eric!”
However, Eric, who had already lost his sanity, continued to laugh.
How long had he been laughing?
Finally, Eric stopped laughing.
At the same time, the vitality in his eyes vanished.
Eric, the Holy Knight, suddenly picked up his sword and approached his comrades.
When his comrades thought that he had regained his senses.
– Stab –
Eric’s sword pierced one of them.
“Wha?”
Eric’s sword struck the abdomen of the comrade.
“Eric! What are you doing?”
Someone next to him tried to restrain Eric, but Chak, it was futile.
Eric began to swing his sword and thrust it into his comrades one by one.
“Eric, why…”
The Eric they had known was no longer there.
There was only Eric, who was under the control of Banshee’s ability, mind control.
Banshee’s ability, mind control. Originally, the Holy Knights were immune to it. However, the corpse explosions triggered by the Lich and the appearance of the Death Knight had gradually inflicted psychological damage on the Holy Knights.
Banshee had just seized the opportunity.
– Chuckle –
Before they knew it, only one Holy Knight remained in this place.
His name was Eric.
In the future, he would guard the proud dungeon instead of the Order.
Nonetheless, he vowed to lead many others with the same sincerity towards the Goddess.

“arghhh!”
Vampire butterflies clung to the entire body of the Holy Knight. Some were being devoured alive by plants, while others were slowly ensnared by spider silk, poisoned by spider venom. It was hell incarnate, and if someone were to ask about the appearance of hell, they could describe this place without hesitation.
Werther, in a fit of rage, swung his sword towards the butterflies.
‘Where did we go wrong?’
They had simply come here to capture a vampire. More precisely, they had pursued the vampire in search of the Demon Sword. But what awaited them were terrifying beings. Reversing the current situation was extremely difficult.
– Bang –
– Bang –
And occasionally, there were loud explosions. They could easily tell that monsters were not only in the path they had taken but also everywhere.
Werther tightly closed his eyes.
Could he survive in this place? No, he must survive. He had obligations and goals. He needed to remove his incompetent brother from the line of succession to protect the family. He had to depose his father, who had appointed his incompetent brother as the heir.
That was his duty and goal. That’s why he couldn’t die here.
With his sword in hand, Werther approached a Holy Knight. He had only lost blood to the vampire butterflies and was still breathing.
– Chak –
Werther’s sword severed the knight’s leg. Then, as if he were a piece of luggage, he lifted the knight and dashed towards the next corridor.
‘I can’t die in a place like this.’
He must survive.
After running for a while, they reached a lake. It was quite a large lake. When they turned around to cross to the other side, several creatures leaped out of the water.
Monsters with lower bodies resembling snakes, Naga.
Without hesitation, Werther tossed one of the Holy Knights he had brought with him.
The Holy Knight had a despairing expression, but with no legs, he couldn’t escape.
The Naga pierced the Holy Knight with their spears.
‘Now!’
When the Naga’s gazes were fixed in the other direction, Werther sprinted towards the opposite corridor.
Fortunately, there was no horde of monsters chasing him. Under normal circumstances, he should have been suspicious of this alien situation, but it was difficult for him to entertain such thoughts now.
Werther’s mind was solely focused on the Demon Sword. He ran and ran.
Before he knew it, Werther had reached the center of the dungeon. And there he saw it. The Demon Sword he had witnessed was lying on the floor.
“Finally!”
To anyone, it was an obviously staged scene, but Werther had a greedy expression.
“Hehe.”
If he obtained that Demon Sword, he would gain tremendous power. More powerful than anyone else. The Demon Sword he had longed for was finally in Werther’s hands.
He slowly withdrew the Demon Sword.
