After Ye Sheng got out of bed and washed up, a nanny came in with his breakfast. It wasn’t very sumptuous, but it was decent. The events of the night before must have frightened a lot of people.
Ye Sheng was a descendant of Lord Ye after all. No matter how unloved he was, his background alone meant that he was of higher standing than everyone else. Even Young Master Thirteen had been so nervous about injuring Ye Sheng, so the house servants had become even more jittery.
Ye Sheng ate some of the breakfast so that he wouldn’t go hungry. Then he stopped eating and asked, “Does everyone in the house know about what happened last night?”
The nanny was stunned for a moment, before nodding and replying, “Everyone knows about it already, and everyone says Young Master Thirteen went too far.”
Ye Sheng’s expression remained calm as he said, “You servants dare to comment on what Young Master Thirteen ought to do?”
The nanny opened her mouth to speak, but she didn’t know what to say.
As Hu Mei’s family had slowly expanded over the last few years, she’d started to bribe everyone in the Manor. Besides those who had originally served First Madam, anybody new in the house was part of Hu Mei’s camp.
Young Master Thirteen was Hu Mei’s son, and the servants dared to speak ill of him?
“Young Master Twelve, I heard some news last night,” said the nanny in a low voice suddenly.
“Speak,” said Ye Sheng as he looked up at her.
“The Old Lady came back from praying to Buddha last night. She heard about what happened and became enraged and threw a huge tantrum,” whispered the nanny in a quiet voice.
“The Old Lady is back?” Ye Sheng frowned.
This Old Lady was his grandmother, Lord Ye’s mother. She was nearly 80 years old, but with the nourishment of high-grade pills, she remained very healthy and lived without any pain or aches bothering her.
The Old Lady loved to pray to Buddha, and there was a Buddhist shrine within Ye Manor itself. She had placed several Buddhas inside to watch over the family. Also, she often went to Icy Mountain Temple to pray. There were several shrines there and it was said that a real Buddha resided in that temple.
The Old Lady had gone to Icy Mountain Temple to pray a few days ago and had stayed there for several days. Ye Sheng hadn’t expected her to come back last night.
Just when Ye Sheng was about to ask more questions, someone walked into the courtyard.
A fairly stout older woman stared straight at Ye Sheng with no expression on her face.
The nanny saw who had come and got a fright, so she quickly took all the dishes away and left.
Ye Sheng and this frowning older woman were all who were left in the courtyard.
Ye Sheng knew who this older woman was. According to the first Ye Sheng’s memories, this was the maid who accompanied the Old Lady all the time. She
had always been very unfriendly toward Ye Sheng.
“Young Master Twelve, the Old Lady has ordered me to bring you a message,” said the older woman in an icy voice.
Ye Sheng stood up and said, “What message?”
“The Old Lady says that peace and harmony in the household are more important than anything else. Young Master Thirteen is very gifted and has a bright future ahead, while you are just the son of a concubine. Even though you are both Lord Ye’s sons, the two of you are essentially different in nature, and she hopes that you know your place. You are already 16, so you are not to make any trouble for Young Master Thirteen again. If you do, the Old Lady will get rid of a rebellious child like you so that no nonsense like this ever happens again, and we won’t be embarrassed if word gets out.” The older lady spoke very harshly, and she sounded just like the nasty Old Lady.
Ye Sheng pursed his lips and didn’t say anything. His expression was so cold, it was terrifying.
This Old Lady really hated him to the core.
Ye Qing was the one who had been in the wrong the day before, but to the Old Lady, all of this was Ye Sheng’s fault.
“Ye Qing nearly beat me to death yesterday,” said Ye Sheng as he tried hard to suppress his anger.
“The Old Lady said that you are the son of a despicable woman, so your life is not even as valuable as grass. Young Master Thirteen is someone with good judgment, and he only beat you up but didn’t kill you. Besides, there are excellent doctors in the house who could heal you. So you are not to make trouble for Young Master Thirteen anymore. Otherwise she will strip you of the right to move out of the house when you come of age, and you will remain in this manor for the rest of your life, and be regarded as a good-for-nothing forever,” sneered the older woman with disdain.
Ye Sheng scoffed to himself angrily. “Did the Old Lady hate his mother that much?”
“Go back and tell the Old Lady that I’ve understood her message, and I won’t make any trouble for Ye Qing,” said Ye Sheng. He clenched his fists tightly and Qi surged through his body. He really wanted to bash this woman in front of him to death right now.
But his rational side told him that he must not do anything like that.
Once Ye Sheng made an attack, then even if he didn’t end up killing her, he would anger the Old Lady. She might really strip him of all his rights and just keep him within the manor so that he would never have freedom for the rest of his life.
As long as the Old Lady said so, even Lord Ye didn’t dare to go against her.
Being filial was very important within the Great Qin Empire. Besides, Lord Ye had an excellent reputation throughout the land and countless people were watching him closely. If there was any news about him being unfilial, many scholars and officials would criticize and attack him, so there was nothing Lord Ye could do about that.
“I will not purposely make any trouble for Ye Qing, but if he comes to make trouble for me, then don’t blame me for getting nasty,” thought Ye Sheng to himself as he scoffed coldly in his icy heart.
This Ye Manor was like a gigantic prison to Ye Sheng. He had to leave this place no matter what.
“I’m sure the Old Lady will be very happy to know that you have learned your lesson. Lord Ye will return in a few days, so when he asks about this matter, the Old Lady hopes that you can bear the responsibility for what happened,” the older woman made an unreasonable request.
Ye Sheng’s gaze intensified, and his fury made him speechless. He stared at the older woman as if he was going to swallow her whole. That was asking too much of him.
He was a grandson of the Old Lady too. He hadn’t been picked up from some garbage dump.
The older woman was alarmed by Ye Sheng’s gaze and couldn’t help but take a few steps back. She then said angrily, “The Old Lady knows that this is hard on you, so she says that she will allow you to leave the house to visit the grave of that slutty mother of yours. If you are willing to take on the responsibility for this matter, then you can leave the house on the15th of this month to pay respects to your slutty mother’s grave.”
PAK!
The moment the older woman finished speaking, Ye Sheng couldn’t suppress his anger anymore and slapped the woman across the face. He slapped her so hard that she stumbled backward.
“If you call my mother slutty one more time, I’ll kill you on the spot.” Ye Sheng squeezed these words out from his throat and stared ferociously at the woman like a wolf.
The older woman looked back at Ye Sheng in shock. Her expression was alarmed, then angry, then humiliated, then indignant. It changed several times, but she eventually put aside her emotions in the face of Ye Sheng’s bloodthirsty expression and said, “These are the exact words that the Old Lady said. If you’re not happy about it, take it up with the Old Lady yourself. Why take it out on a maid like me?”
“You are saying things like that precisely because the Old Lady protects you. One of these days I’m going to skin you alive,” said Ye Sheng in an icy voice. His gaze was chilling her to the bone.
“Get lost!” shouted Ye Sheng.
“Young Master Twelve, you really think you’re something now. I’m going to tell the Old Lady exactly what happened, just you wait,” said the older woman in a panic. She had been frightened by Ye Sheng and quickly ran off.
The small courtyard was left empty with Ye Sheng standing all by himself.
“D*mn it, every single person in this house is an *sshole. My mother was the Sacred Lady of the Reincarnation Sect, and they call her a slut here with impunity. I can’t imagine how much humiliation my mother must have gone through.” Ye Sheng was so angry that smoke was coming out of his nostrils. He was so furious.
He had inherited everything from Ye Sheng, including Ye Sheng’s deep love for his mother, so he was really feeling murderous right now.
“Just you wait, I’ll make sure all of you regret this.” Ye Sheng’s eyes were dark and a cold glint flashed deep inside. He didn’t like anybody in the entire house at all.
“My dantian, Earth, is the only thing I can rely on. Give me some time, and I’ll make sure everyone in this house kneels before my mother’s grave.” Ye Sheng’s eyes now looked calm. It was the calm that came when one was truly furious, and the calm that came before a storm.
