Chapter 25
Glaskan Subjugation Battle (5)
Tarkan’s roar traverses the Nail Pavilion corridor. The sound, so sharp as to cut out the eardrums with a knife, makes everyone swallow dry saliva.
Entering the Nail Pipe Corridor battle. The person at the forefront is the gloomy Clevius.
“Eh! I don’t know! This is where my life ends!”
‘Gloomy Clevius’, the first-year member of the combat club.
He always says ominous things, complains a lot, and even looks gloomy, so I just think he’s a pitiful person every time I see him, but basically, Clevius is the type that is strong in times of crisis.
He is an innate coward, and even though he holds the position of head of the combat department, he is strangely unsure of his own abilities. It may be due to an unfortunate family environment or life history, but that is not important.
The key point is that his tenacity is at a level that even someone in the combat division can put his finger on the tongue.
“Aaaah!”
He is wearing a splint on one of his fractured arms. Just sprinting at full speed would have caused intense pain, but Clevius crossed the nail pipe corridor as if nothing had happened.
This nail hall is located in the center of the three student center buildings and is used as a meeting place or combat training center. As it is a place where people come and go all year round, it is kept clean and well maintained. As proof of that fact, there is not even a single speck of dust on the marble floor of the long corridor.
At the end of the corridor, which extends about 50 meters, is a huge door leading to the combat training area. It was the very place where 1st and 2nd graders practiced joint combat. The wide door that welcomes any student of Sylvania is now blocked by a huge flaming lizard.
Just making eye contact brings back the fear from the previous subjugation.
Tarkan slowly stood up and once again let out a roar that sounded like a sharp shredding sound. As soon as Clevious saw Tarkan like that, his legs started shaking and fear began to take over his body.
“Aaaaaah! Aaaaaah!”
Clevius clenched his teeth and had difficulty controlling his frantically trembling body. Every sense in his body was screaming at him to run away, but he knew well that if he threw everything away, he would end up neither porridge nor rice.
Fortunately, I have Comrade Gil. You don’t have to face that great fear alone.
There is Ed Rothtaylor, who is so confident and calm, and Lortel Kecheln, who cool-headedly analyzes the situation even in any crisis situation. They are very different people from Clevius, who makes a fuss and gets scared even in the slightest crisis.
I don’t think he can do any significant damage to Tarkan, but at least he doesn’t enter this hellhole alone. That fact is the least bit of comfort in this hopeless situation.
“It’s coming! The battle is about to begin! What should we do now…!”
After checking Tarkan, who was rushing towards him as if he was going to eat him at any moment, Clevius looked back to ask his colleagues about their policy.
Unfortunately, there was no one there. Sadly, Clevius never looked back as he rushed in here. I was so panicked and sprinting that I didn’t have time to worry about anything else.
Only the hallway of the nail salon that he ran into is straight, and his colleagues, who must have been running with him, are completely gone.
Cold sweat began to well up from Clevius’s back like crazy.
“You tricked me! You tricked me!”
Clevius screamed with a face that looked like he was half crying.
“Hey, you crazy people! Hey! Where are you? Come out! What are you going to do with me? Why am I the scapegoat? If you’re going to do it this way, why don’t you send Taily, who was claiming to be the scapegoat! Why me! Aaaaaaa!”
Clevius, who was screaming in the most disgusting way in the world, ran away like crazy, leaving behind Tarkan, who was running towards him.
If this was going to happen, I didn’t trust that damn Ed Rothtaylor. I had to persuade Princess Fenia, even if it meant hitting the floor and yelling like an immature child.
I was fooled by Princess Fenia’s strong appearance and ended up following her policies, but I resent my past self.
“Why are you doing this to me? Ahhh! I hate you! I hate the whole world! Please help me! Please, I was wrong! Ahhh!”
The sight of Clevius running away with tears in his eyes was pitiful.
*
– ‘We’ll pretend to enter together, but if Clevius seems to have lost his mind, we’ll leave again. That bastard is a coward and will never do it if you tell him to go in alone, so this is a necessary step.’
The dawn light rises from the east. Soon this long night will end.
Lortel gently closed his eyes once. The location is a corner of the student plaza that is a long way from the student center. You can see three large buildings. In front of the Nail Pavilion that Clevius entered, the half-destroyed Glokt Pavilion, and right next to it… the Obel Pavilion that Ed Rothtaylor had just run into.
I concentrated my mind and brought out the magic power of my entire body. In a corner of my head, the conversation I had with Ed Rothtaylor is replaying.
– ‘The first step is to push Clevius into the nail tube corridor.’
– ‘Does that mean you will eventually sacrifice Clevius? It may not be a bad choice, but it cannot avoid moral criticism.’
– ‘If it had been such a one-dimensional measure, I wouldn’t have said anything.’
Lortel focused on the sound of Clevius’s screams coming to his ears.
– ‘The most important role will be yours. Lortel. You will be in charge of securing the entrance to the Yenika suppression team and in fact, you will be responsible for inflicting the fatal blow on Tarkan.’
There is no hesitation in the words spoken by the fallen nobleman. Even in the midst of this dizzying, confusing, and urgent situation, I have no hesitation in my decision and am confident in the policy I have decided on.
Lortel closed his eyes.
Since I was an adult, I have walked the path of mourning and experienced countless crises even at a young age.
A crisis is a crisis because it was unexpected. From paper crises that block logistics distribution or bottlenecks in the cash flow of a commercial company, to actual crises such as a secret struggle or scheme by a competing commercial company.
From Lortel’s experience, he knows that crises are usually an invaluable opportunity that allows us to see through human nature and the bottom.
I remember Ziggs’ back as he left the garrison.
I am disillusioned with the sentimental egoism that prioritized only one’s own feelings in a crisis situation where one does not know what is ahead.
I remember Princess Fenia, who helped Ziggs.
I despise the weightless decision of someone who must be firmly rooted and centered more than anyone else.
A truly trustworthy person is one who tries to find the right answer with firm conviction in the face of any crisis or unexpected situation. This is a person who is not consumed by fear, is not swayed by emotions, and does not try to doubt his or her beliefs.
– ‘First of all, the most urgent thing is to send the Yenika suppression team into the combat training range. Subduing Tarkan is something I have to think about next. So, first, concentrate your mind and listen to the sound, and when you think Tarkan is far enough away… just destroy the wall on the side of the combat training room.’
The key is to keep Tarkan and Velosfer separate.
The worst thing is that the Yenika suppression team faces a situation where they have to deal with Tarkan and Velosfer at the same time.
“Whew… really… speaking in a boastful way…”
By nature, Lortel is in the position of giving instructions rather than receiving instructions.
Due to his status as a first-year student and the fact that he lives with the extremely noble royal family, he does not stand out.
However, Lortel’s position within the Elte Chamber of Commerce is such that even mature and old merchants bow their heads at least once.
Normally, he would live his entire life on a commercial island and would have no need to set foot in such a place of learning. Although I entered Sylvania due to some ‘necessity’, its essence does not change.
A fallen nobleman, a person on the edge of a cliff with no money left, is absolutely not in a position to listen to orders to do this or that from someone like that.
However, there is a strange faith and confidence in Ed Rothtaylor’s words.
He assures her that he can overcome this crisis situation, which makes even Princess Fenia, who has lived the life of a monarch, hesitate, if she just follows his instructions.
His tone, devoid of even the slightest doubt, clearly makes one think he has experienced even such a sudden crisis countless times.
Where is the bottom of the person called Ed Rosstaylor?
Three gold coins were clearly returned to the hand that was shaken.
“Hmm…”
Lortel, who lived in the slums before being picked up by ‘Golden King Elte’, knows well the psychology of those who are in a corner.
I fully understand how great a temptation it is to have a single gold coin fall into the hands of someone who cannot guarantee their life for tomorrow.
“Well, I don’t think I’m the kind of person who can make judgments just based on rumors.”
A huge ice spear was floating above Lortel’s head. Even if Clevious had amazing tenacity and agility, he would soon catch up with Tarkan.
A violent decision to destroy the entire wall of a nail salon boasting a long history.
It was simple when I thought of it, but it didn’t come to mind easily.
These are Sylvania students who usually walk around the faculty building and visit the student center as if it were their home. The majestic Nail Building is one of the prides of this school and a landmark representing the student center.
Because it feels like a background that should naturally stand there, the act of destroying it with one’s own hands is a blind spot outside the realm of thought.
But wasn’t the Glokt tube already destroyed in the first place? No matter how long a building boasts a long history, it cannot give priority to human life.
If the scale of the crisis has grown, such bold and violent decisions are sometimes necessary. If it’s a building, you can rebuild it, but Takan ran rampant anyway, so the situation inside the building isn’t that bad.
Who will be held responsible for this act of destruction? Although there is no need to be afraid of such things, the realm of such value judgments is an unknown world for immature students.
The magnificent student center is a treasure of this school and should not be damaged carelessly. Even accidents are confined by such mechanical rules, making it impossible to make flexible decisions in extreme situations.
If your house is on fire, you have to break the window to escape. No matter how expensive the stained glass is, even if it is a one-of-a-kind piece of noble art, you must know how to break it without hesitation and run away. There is nothing to complain about if it is such an old building.
“Where else would I go to experience something like this, destroying that nail tube with my own hands?”
After saying that, I thought about it. Lortel had already blown up the roof of the Nail Building once during joint combat training.
As my thoughts reached that point, I could finally see the intention of Ed Ross Taylor’s words before leaving for the Obergwan.
– ‘You’re good at this.’
Lortel stopped laughing. If you think about it, he’s a pretty interesting guy.
When the situation is over, let’s talk leisurely.
– Kwaaaang!!!
Eventually, all the ice spears were driven into the outer wall of the nail hall where the combat training room is located.
Dust rises and the outer wall of the nail tube collapses.
He smiled neatly when he saw the entry group waiting outside the student plaza.
The dumbfounded expressions on everyone’s faces are impressive. Anyway, the access road was secured.
All that’s left is to deal with Tarkan.
All it does is buy time so that the entry team can subdue Yenika. Now what to do was obvious.
– ‘If you do something about the shell, your magic will be effective against Tarkan. I’ll take responsibility for the shell, so I’m gathering all the magical power I have and chanting the strongest freezing magic I can.’
Lortel suddenly felt a strong sense of curiosity at the sight of the man giving instructions without wasting a single word.
It’s unlikely, but maybe I’ve found my ‘kind’. If that were the case, I would be very excited, but I am not immature enough to get excited about such a slim possibility.
Lortel began quietly chanting magic as he watched the Yenika subjugation team enter the combat training room.
It is a hundred times a thousand times better than the guidance of a princess who is still immature and swayed here and there. An unfounded confidence that everything will work out comes flooding back. If it goes in the wrong direction, it could turn out to be a fool’s errand, but at least for now, I don’t feel that way.
“Quaaaaaaa! Lortel! Ed! You all really think you’re going to die! I won’t let you go!”
Clevius, who was almost caught up by Tarkan and about to be eaten, jumped out of the nail tube screaming.
“No! I feel like I’m going to die right now! It’s dangerous! Please help me! I’m sorry! I’m sorry for saying I would kill you! I’ll just forgive you all! Please save me just this once!”
Lortel gathered all the magical power in his body as he watched him scream in a miserable manner.
*
– Kwaaaang!!!
The Obel Hall is located on the southwest side of the Student Square. This is a building that Princess Fenia would frequently visit after becoming student council president. It is a place where there are many warehouses and conference facilities containing the student council’s private property. It is a place that has no significance now and is crowded out of the story.
As I was frantically running up the stairs there, I saw the exterior wall of the nail tube collapsing outside the window.
While Clevius was running away in fear, Lortel secured the entrance. The Yenika suppression team is seen entering the Nailgwan combat training range. After confirming that things were going according to plan, I continued walking again.
The final act of Act 1 has finally entered Phase 4. The Glaskan summoning ceremony is almost complete, and the energy of dawn is rising in the eastern sky. Maybe this is the last chance. If we can’t subdue Yenika over there, the rest is completely unknown territory.
This crazy situation where we have to play the Tarkan game and the Belosper game at the same time.
It is arrogant to fight Tarkan fairly with magic in the absence of ‘elemental slash’.
That is no different from the idea of burning to death a person wearing two or three layers of fire protection clothing.
I don’t know if you can cause light burns or fainting, but if you want to burn it to death, you have no choice but to pour out unrealistically overwhelming firepower or pour magma on it.
At least among the members of the punitive force, there is no one who can do that.
Among the ‘punitive team members’.
– Quang!
I kicked open the rooftop door of the Obel Hall and jumped out. An open rooftop view greets me… and a familiar witch’s hat catches my eye.
If I had some time to spare, I would have stopped by the Obel Hall first, but since the summoning ceremony was about to be completed, I had to send the Yenika suppression team in first. Anyway, I reached the rooftop of the Obergwan on time, so it’s okay now.
In the end, if we want to discuss the methodology to break through Tarkan’s shell, we must go against this tedious scenario of the final chapter of Act 1 and go back to the strategy of Phase 1.
‘■Page 1. Convening a punitive force.
Achievement conditions: ‘Summon ‘Princess of Charity’ Fenia’ ‘Zix, Spear of Vegetation’ ‘Lortel the Golden Daughter’, ‘Ayla the Companion’, ‘Elvira the Nosy’ and ‘Clevious the Grim’ to the student square!’
(Additional achievement condition) Summon ‘Romantic Adele’.
(Additional achievement condition) Summon ‘Idle Lucy’.
(Additional achievement condition) Summon the ‘Senior Maid Belle’.
※ The additional achievement conditions are nothing special other than giving a little faction friendliness. These characters do not participate in the punitive force.
If your goal is to clear 100%, you can find Adele playing the ukulele in the grass behind the archery range on the west side, [Lucy taking a nap on the rooftop of the Obel Hall], and Belle next to the statue in Olin Square.
It’s already a final chapter where time is running out, but there are very few people who want to clear all of the additional requirements for Phase 1. Finding it doesn’t mean you’ll be participating in a subjugation team, and the rewards aren’t that great in the first place, so it’s mostly treated as stagnant content to achieve achievements.
Still, I have cleared this difficult final chapter countless times, so I am fully aware of where the additional achievement conditions are hidden, and I also know that among them there is a weapon that can turn the flow of the story over.
In front of you, you can see a ‘grenade’ that will pierce Tarkan’s shell with one hit.
The girl, perilously perched on the railing and exhaling, is a bamboo spear that can pierce even the thickest shield.
If you want to deal with irrationality, this side has no choice but to bring irrationality, and if you want to deal with foul play, this side has no choice but to commit foul play.
As the training has not yet been completely completed, in the end, Tarkan cannot be defeated without ‘information superiority’ based on extensive play experience.
So don’t be upset. This side is also in desperate need of its own.
– Kaang!
I kicked over the railing and suddenly picked up Lucy. It was so light that the piles of firewood being moved every day seemed even heavier.
“Huh? Uh? Eek?”
Even though the teaching building is being destroyed by this division, this girl is happily taking a nap. Even though it is good to be rude, there is a limit.
“What is it? Ugh, I’m shaking… uh…”
It’s not day in the first place, it’s night. It’s to the point where I can’t even call it a nap anymore. I wanted to ask why he was sleeping so long, but the reason was so obvious that there was no need to ask.
For lazy Lucy, the act of sleeping itself is a means of recovering magical power. This dispirited girl, who had no sense of danger whatsoever, had spent an absurd amount of mana just last night just to run away from the senior maid, Belle.
I used high-level spatial magic without chanting for quick casting, and the distance was from Ofilis Hall to the northern forest. Since you’ve run out of mana after doing something crazy like that, you need to rest if you want to regain that huge amount of mana.
It was very Lucy-like that the place and method was to sleep on the rooftop of the Obelgwan, but unfortunately, now was not the time to rest or relax.
Since I’ve eaten so many pieces of beef jerky and even destroyed the drying rack I put so much effort into, I need to do something to deserve it. There is no free lunch in this world.
Still, I’m not completely heartless. I took out the leather pouch I brought from the reading room and opened it. Inside was a lot of jerky that had been dried and stored in advance.
“Umm… Beef jerky..? It smells like beef jerky…” He
looks dazed because he hasn’t woken up yet, but he can smell the beef jerky like a ghost.
-Quaak
I picked up a handful of beef jerky and stuffed it into Lucy’s tiny mouth.
“Ugh-! Ugh-!”
“Eat a lot!”
After saying that, he picked up Lucy and ran along the railing.
“Muk mamya! Stay mamya!”
My jaw hurts! There are too many! I think he said that.
The high-ranking fire spirit Tarkan can be seen beyond the railing. Clevius, who has performed his role brilliantly, is running towards us with a crying expression, and Lortel, who has cast the largest ice spear he has ever created, also looks small.
Perhaps all of Lucy’s magic power had not returned. What was it all? Only a small portion of the mana, which was like an ocean, must have been recovered.
Still, that’s enough. Just as Tarkan’s existence is absurdity itself, Lucy’s existence is also absurdity itself.
“I hope you enjoyed it…! I need to take care of that skin!”
“What?”
I held up Lucy, who couldn’t even pronounce words properly due to the pile of jerky stuck in her mouth, and took a stance.
Since the target is a burning lizard, it can be seen clearly even in the current situation, which is a bit dark.
Will the distance come out?
There’s nothing to worry about. I tried it a lot in the military.
Check the target – Remove the safety clip – Pull out the safety pin and throw!
“Everybody get down!”
He screamed so loudly that it echoed throughout the hall and threw Lucy with all his might over the railing to where Tarkan could be seen.
“Mmmama-!”
Lucy screamed like that, and then she looked completely awake.
“Daughter-in-law, mame-!”
That’s too much! I think he said that.
I’m sorry, but from my perspective, this is the only way out.
Lucy’s screams as she walked away helplessly with a mouth full of beef jerky echoed throughout the student plaza. It’s too much – it’s too much – it’s too much – A moment of silence after greeting Lucy as she falls away.
– Quaaaaaaaaaa!
The power of lightning spread around Lucy, a high-ranking lightning magic spell called ‘Never’s Punishment’, and covered the entire area.
Due to the shock that occurred so quickly, a violent wind swept through the area and I had to hold on to the railing.
“Pfft!”
Once the shell is blown, the Tarkan battle itself becomes worth playing with just the current members.
I gathered myself and stood on the railing again.
It’s time to finish.
Up until now, I was anxious because I was wondering if everything would go as planned, but if you’ve come this far, there’s only one thing that’s important. One might say that this situation is snobbish, but it is a serious issue in its own way.
Tarkan is a high-ranking fire spirit. It goes without saying, but the enormous amount of spirit skill proficiency given when you defeat it… should never be wasted. In some ways, this is the most important moment of all.
Now that we’ve come this far, there’s one thing I can never compromise on.
“Last hit..!”
Last hit!
You have to take the last hit!
You can never give in!
I quickly started running down to the outskirts of the student square where Lortel and Clevious were.
*
– ‘I am so proud of you, our dear daughter Yenika.’
– ‘I’m so proud to be your friend, Jenika.’
– ‘You are the hope of the second year. You were the only one who showed proper skills in this joint combat practice.’
– ‘If you are a Yenika student, you can trust us.’
– ‘If it weren’t for you, this second year would have been the worst. I’m so glad I had you. Yenika.’
The memories that leaked out were very heartbreaking.
Beyond the collapsed wall of the Obel Hall, the sky is slowly becoming brighter.
The twinkling stars in the girl’s eyes were disappearing, as if the snow was melting. The girl ended up mocking herself for even expressing such romantic sentiments during this time.
The number of punitive forces that attacked was not as large as expected.
A girl who was sitting quietly chanting in the center of the combat training center quietly stands up.
The oak staff he always carries is stained black.
The eyes of the spirits guarding her are unusually eerie, making those who see them cringe.
The girl who had been chanting spells in the midst of countless corporeal spirits and lower-level spirit beasts… slowly looks back. As if possessed, I look for the face of a boy, but that boy is not among the punitive force. It’s natural.
The faces of the subjugation team members all looked at the girl.
To them, the curses of Belosper that embroider her body seem like chains that are binding the girl. The girl smiled sadly at that fact and quietly muttered.
“Come on.”
The final battle of the final scene of Act 1. Battle of Yenica Palover.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t much time allowed to exchange impressions with each other.
