Chapter 10
Chapter 10
The child in front of Chloe was slender, with dry and messy golden hair. He was curled up in the corner, hugging his own body, only revealing a pair of emerald green eyes.
There was no vitality in those eyes, just staring blankly at the pastry.
Chloe raised her eyebrows and pushed the pastry closer.
After a long while, the boy finally reached out and quickly took the pastry.
But he didn't eat it either, just clutched it tightly to his chest.
Chloe looked at him and thought his sense of vigilance was quite high.
The cubs next to her didn't understand her behavior, but because of their father and mother's exhortations, they remained silent.
They just stared at this little cripple in front of them with strange eyes for a while, not really understanding what made him catch the young lady's favor.
Chloe didn't have time to pay attention to the cubs with their various thoughts. Seeing that they were still here, the boy probably wouldn't dare to eat the pastry.
So she waved her hand and took the group of cubs out.
The small door creaked as it was closed again, and the room sank back into dimness.
The boy curled up on the ground, cradling the pastry in his dirty hands, and carefully took a bite.
It was sweet and soft, with a strange bloody taste.
It instantly gave him a feeling of fullness in his empty stomach.
Looking at the pastry in his hand, he couldn't help but think of the vampire from earlier.
Black hair and red eyes were the symbol of the royal family.
The boy hid the complicated look in his heart and got up to hide the pastry.
Outside the room, Chloe released her perception and raised her eyebrows slightly after finding that the boy had hidden the pastry, then left with the group of cubs.
When they returned to the banquet hall, the cubs were still confused:
"Young lady, why did you give food to that little cripple?"
"Father said that vampires without power are not worthy of living in this world."
This was the consistent concept of vampires. To some extent, the Duke Francis' family had been able to keep the boy until now was already very benevolent.
If it were other families with less abundant financial resources, they would have likely abandoned him at birth.
Chloe was just a five-year-old cub now, with no power to change the environment of the vampires. Even if she could, such concepts could not be changed overnight.
Moreover, honestly, Chloe didn't think she was a very kind person either.
It was just that after seeing the shabbily dressed little boy, she subconsciously compared him to herself and the luxuriously dressed cubs around her, inevitably feeling some pity.
Of course, she didn't feel that much pity.
Chloe didn't stay with the cubs for long before Xavier took her away.
He raised his hand and touched the flower crown on top of Chloe's head, and asked in a low voice, "Who gave this to you?"
Chloe looked at the flower crown first: "Probably one of the little friends."
"Quite popular," said Xavier.
The music overhead in the banquet hall slowed down, and the men and women dancing in the dance floor also stopped.
Everyone spontaneously looked towards the front of the banquet hall where their King and the famously mighty Duke were standing together.
The protagonist of this banquet was originally supposed to be the Duke's son, that noble blond boy next to him, but at this moment, most people's eyes fell on Chloe instead.
After all, this was the first time the King's cub had formally appeared in public.
Chloe automatically ignored those fanatical sights. In Xavier's arms she trampled around with the flower crown even accidentally falling off and hitting Xavier’s face.
This move made the people below gasp.
But the Primogenitor, who was known to the public as fierce and powerful, showed no signs of anger on his face. He just silently adjusted the way he was holding the child.
But this move seemed to anger the cub. The little fur ball threateningly bared her fangs at the Primogenitor.
Then she was easily muffled by the Primogenitor to stop her.
It looked very affectionate.
Everyone below had different thoughts. Since the Primogenitor currently only had this one cub, she would definitely be doted on in the future. They had to think of ways for their cubs of age to get along well with her.
At this moment, Duke Francis had finished his congratulatory speech and handed the microphone to the ten-year-old boy.
Chloe tilted her head to look at him.
The boy wore an expensive little suit with a little top hat on his golden hair. Every move carried the nobility and elegance of aristocratic children.
Very different from the tattered boy in the small room.
Except they both had golden hair.
As if noticing Chloe's gaze, after finishing his speech, the boy put down the microphone and turned to meet her eyes.
Chloe smiled faintly, not surprised at all.
But the boy was stunned for a moment.
Chloe turned her head back and yawned lightly.
Tired, want to sleep.
Xavier noticed her movement, glanced down at her, and then declined Duke Francis’ speech invitation, pointing to the cub in his arms.
Duke Francis immediately expressed understanding.
The guests and hosts enjoyed themselves at the banquet.
In her drowsiness, Chloe sensed that she was being held in Xavier’s arms, surrounded by large and small nobles who came to curry favor.
Afraid of waking up the cub and incurring the Primogenitor's wrath, they lowered their voices one after another.
Chloe half-opened her eyes, seeming to catch a glimpse of a fleeting figure in the corner.
Before she could think about what it was, she completely fell asleep.
When she woke up again, she was back in her room.
And the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was that skeleton.
Chloe: "..."
She took a deep breath, then realized she was clinging to the skeleton with all four limbs.
Chloe instantly felt even more wretched.
There was nothing more terrifying than this, she thought.
Chloe shook the bell by her bedside, and a servant came in quickly.
The cub's voice was vague and tender from just waking up, sounding exceptionally cute: "Who brought me back to the room last night?"
"Of course it was the Primogenitor," said the servant affectionately. "The Primogenitor put you on the bed and instructed us not to disturb you anymore."
Chloe ground her teeth audibly.
Annoying, it was that scumbag father again.
