Chapter 44: Tier Borders
Chapter 44: Tier Borders
What Di Tou found out, however, due to this accident, was that the robe that he was wearing seemed to avoid water. So even if he poured water over himself while wearing the robe, while he might get drenched and the water would flow over the robe, the robe itself would come out on the other end dry. This meant that Di Tou could perhaps take an awkward bath/shower and not worry too much about getting his cloths wet due to not having a towel.
And it wasn't too bad that he was wet, as he was planning to clean himself up either way, so he could just attribute the spilled water as water he used to clean himself up.
But first things first, placing down the two buckets, Di Tou wanted to split out a portion of water to use as drinking water for dinner and for the night, but realized that he didn't have any good containers to hold drinking water. He only really had the basin from earlier that had gotten somewhat dirty, and the various random containers around Mu Di Bai's house, which were all rather dusty as well has having unknown usages.
Yet another thing he would have to buy in the morning. Suddenly it seemed like the money Mu Di Bai left behind didn't seem like all that much anymore.
In the end, Di Tou gritted his teeth and used the container he had used to store the water for cleaning earlier in the day. While it might be a little dirty, it wasn't like it would kill him if he drank it.
Then, looking at the two buckets that he had and choosing the one that had a bit less water in it, Di Tou used the remaining water in the bucket to clean himself up a bit, starting with wetting a rag and cleaning himself as if he was a statue, and then dumping the remaining bit of water over his head to rinse off a bit.
Of course, to do this he stepped into the courtyard, which was at least somewhat concealed, so as to not dump water on the floor. While there was a tub in the room, it was still rather dirty and Di Tou didn't really have the patience to deal with that right now.
Finally, by the time Di Tou was done cleaning himself to the best of his ability, the sun had just begun to set, and while Di Tou still felt a little grimey and nasty, he accepted this was the best he could do for the moment.
"Haish, I really hope I can figure out an easy way for hot water soon. And I need to remember to get soap and a towel and more water basins… and what else am I forgetting…"
Di Tou paused and thought for a moment, "Oh right, I want some twine or at least some thicker string…"
"Argh." Shaking his head, Di Tou decided this could wait till later to figure out. For now, it was time for dinner.
Looking at how dark it was inside, and how nice it was outside, Di Tou decided to eat in the courtyard. Bringing out half of the duck, that the butcher had helped him chop into pieces and two pieces of flat bread, Di Tou headed out to the courtyard and settled down at the stone table.
Placing the food on the table, Di Tou once again quickly looked around before kneeling down to summon the scroll before going back to sit.
"Perfect, I might not have Weibo (Chinese twitter) to scroll through, but this will do for mealtime entertainment."
Di Tou, like many other 21st century youths, was a chronic internet addict. Of course, it wasn't to the point he couldn't live without the internet, but his hands felt a little bit itchy if he wasn't doing anything during meals or his downtime.

"18% efficiency in activity [sweeping leaves] low feedback obtained."
"27% efficiency in activity [rubbing down table], sub-average feedback obtained."
"17% efficiency in activity [rubbing down chairs], low feedback obtained."
"F*ck leaves give a lot!" Di Tou couldn't help but exclaim. He had only gotten a little bit better than he had in the morning, but the increase seemed to be five full times greater?
Making a mental note to focus more on his leave sweeping, Di Tou moved on.
"Hmm… Not bad, I got the same amount for rubbing down the table, it seems like sub-average is a pretty big range, going from at least 27 to 38. While the barrier for low falls somewhere between 17 and 27…"
Polishing down the first piece of flatbread and a good portion of the duck, Di Tou thought about the information he had gathered so far.
It seemed like that the scroll would reward him for how well he cleaned things. It would give him a numerical percentage that it called efficiency, and then from there put him into certain tiers of feedback.
Different activities also seemed to have different levels of initial value, even before considering the feedback he was getting. After all, the difference between what he was getting from sweeping leaves compared to anything else seemed a little extreme.
As for where the different tier boarders were and how much they affected the reward, Di Tou still didn't have a clear picture in his mind, but he could see the difference already.
Just by getting to the level of low and sub-average feedback he was getting attribute increases in the tenths of decimal places, as opposed to his tragic attempts the night before that were giving him points in the range of the thousandths…
Or even worse, the minimum feedback, which seemed to be in the hundredth of thousandths… That .00002 was still haunting him in his status now.
Of course, getting the additional efficiency rating quite a bit more effort to complete. The night before he had finished five or so tasks in the span of half an hour, while today he had only managed to finish two using the entirety of the afternoon.
Now halfway through the second piece of flatbread, Di Tou's mouth felt rather dry.
"Tsk… It seems like I'll need to get cups too." Thinking back to what he had at hand, he only had the one cup… that was still filled with the wine.
Sighing, Di Tou quickly finished the rest of his meal before he got up and dismissed the scroll, heading inside to go to the bin he decided was drinking water and simply cupping his hands to get a small drink of water.
"How annoying… I can't even maintain clean drinking water."
Having finished his meal, however, Di Tou didn't know what to do now.
It was now starting to get a bit dark outside as well, as the sun was maybe a quarter of the way through setting, and he had already taken… a shower? No, that wasn't quite right, but at the very least he had already cleaned up somewhat, so it seemed wrong to do anything too strenuous either.
But at the same time it seemed a bit early to go to sleep, what should Di Tou do?
