Chapter 131: Hopping Out Of The Pan... And Into The Fire
Chapter 131: Hopping Out Of The Pan... And Into The Fire
In the end, Sentinel decided it was worth a shot. Anything that could give them enough of an advantage to escape the situation they were stuck in was a good plan, despite its flaws. Jason immediately got to work. Some of the lab equipment took him a while to get used to, and he had to rely on Sentinel to provide devices that could generate flames or electricity to make everything work.
There was a fair bit of waiting involved at several stages, but neither of them dared to talk. While Jason was fully focused on the procedure and making sure nothing went wrong, Sentinel monitored the situation outside. Now and then he would take a brief walk to the front door to look outside. But all he could see was fog.
Tremors and earthquakes periodically wracked the area which only drove Jason's tension through the roof. Whenever they happened, he had to grab hold of whatever he was working with to prevent it from falling. Jason grumbled under his breath as another earthquake struck, but this one was far more violent.
"It's moving closer to us" Sentinel wore a grim expression as he shifted his footing to keep his balance.

"It's nearly done They just have to stay away from us a little while longer" Jason exposed a frown as he studied the liquid in the test tubes. He had made several vials in case something went wrong. Plus, it would give them a backup in case the effects wore off before they could completely vacate the area.
Sentinel arched an eyebrow as the sound of Jason grinding his teeth reached his ears. 'The boy is struggling to deal with the stress' Sentinel sighed before he took another walk. 'I just hope he doesn't snap because of this.'
As he reached the front lobby of the small building, he realised that something had changed. The fog outside of the door was becoming thinner! The sight immediately sparked concern in Sentinel's mind. He did not know if it was a good thing, but he highly doubted it.
Just as he was studying the change, a massive shadow blocked out the doorway as it moved past. A few seconds later, another earthquake struck. Sentinel realised that what he had seen was most likely one creature's limb passing by. Cold sweat appeared on his face as he thought about how close it had come.
'Shit We're dead if that steps on this building.' Sentinel spun on his heels and raced back towards the lab. When he entered the room, his eyes were immediately drawn to the floor. A couple of the vials had smashed because of the latest earthquake!
Just as he was about to ask if he had saved any, he heard laughter erupting from Jason's mouth. He held four vials up in the air and stared at them with heated intensity. His head slowly turned to face his mentor as his lips curled up into a broad grin.
"They're ready!" Jason's words brought silence to the room as Sentinel stared at the vials as if they were their lifelines.
"How do we do this?" Sentinel blurted out as he wondered if it was as simple as drinking them.
However, his question seemed to cause some doubt to appear on Jason's face as he glanced around the room. He quickly checked the cupboards and drawers before he finally found what he was looking for! From one drawer, he pulled out a handful of needles that were still in their packaging.
Sentinel raised his eyebrows at the sight as he cursed under his breath. Even though these supplies remained undamaged, there was no telling how long they had been here for. They may not be safe to use but they had no other choice!
Jason sat the needles down before finding two stoppers for the spare vials. Once they were safely sealed, he handed one that was open to Sentinel alongside a sealed one. This way they had two each and they could only hope that it would be enough!
'God I hope this works' Jason took his time to unwrap the packaging and set up the needle. He rolled up the sleeve on his left arm as he looked for the veins under his skin. He did not know if he was doing it right, as the reports only said he had to inject the serum into them.
With a deep breath, he inserted the needle into his open vial and pulled back the plunger of the syringe. The liquid seeped inside as he wondered how much of it he was supposed to use. But there was no time left to work it out. 'If I fill it that should be enough Right? It's better to use too much instead of it failing because I used too little'
Although he was trying to reassure himself, some of the knowledge from his biology skill was warning him that using too much could be worse than using less. However, he ignored it. If they had time to research it properly, he would not mind taking the time to get it right.
However, considering this was an emergency, he was willing to take the risk! He tossed the now-empty vial to the side where it smashed and stared at the syringe. Sentinel, who was across from him, wore a dubious expression now that he was at the same point as Jason.
While staring at his mentor, Jason breathed in through his nose and out through his mouth in a controlled rhythm. He was trying to slow his racing heart that pounded in his chest. With a deep, throaty gulp, Jason pressed the tip of the needle against his skin.
A bead of sweat trickled down from his brow, crossing his nose before leaving a salty taste on his lips. He closed his eyes as he pushed. A stinging sensation pricked his arm. But it was not as bad as he thought it would be. 'Ok, that's the hard part over'
His thumb pressed down on the plunger, and his veins felt like they were on fire as the foreign liquid invaded his body
