Chapter 36
C36 – Eight Lines
Upon hearing Miao Hujin’s agreement, Yun Hai couldn’t contain his joy and exclaimed,
“Elder Miao, would you consider becoming a revered member of our family?”
In the Yun family, such a position was akin to that of an elder, carrying with it the responsibility to fulfill elder duties.
Given that his son had mentioned their family had an Alchemist and had even summoned his own master, it was clear Elder Miao was inclined to join their ranks.
Otherwise, Yun Haoyan would never have claimed their family had an Alchemist.
As expected, Elder Miao nodded in affirmation, chuckling as he replied,
“Haha… If it weren’t for my disciple’s persistent pleas, how could I, a Grand Alchemist, agree to serve as a member of the Yun family?”
Yun Hai shot Yun Haoyan a knowing glance, as if to say “Well done.” He then turned to Miao Hujin with a respectful bow, expressing his gratitude,
“I extend the Yun family’s sincerest thanks to you.”
Miao Hujin gestured dismissively, responding,
“Direct your thanks to Yun Haoyan. It was his earnest request that led me to become your family’s Alchemist.”
At that moment, one of the elders spoke up,
“Elder Miao, we’ve yet to witness an Alchemist at work. Would you be willing to give us a demonstration?”
This elder harbored doubts about Miao Hujin; after all, it was their first encounter, and he had never before heard of such an Alchemist.
He seemed to have appeared out of thin air, casting an unsettling aura.
Unperturbed, Miao Hujin understood their skepticism—that no one would easily accept a Grand Alchemist assuming the role of a mere Alchemist for the Yun family.
He had intended to showcase his skills eventually, even without their prompting.
“Very well, make some space. Today, I’ll show you firsthand the art of a Grand Alchemist crafting pills.”
“Wow, what a bustling scene!” Yun Tiantian exclaimed as she entered Yun Hai’s study, filled with people.
She had been searching for Yun Haoyan, having been informed by the Yun family’s servants of his whereabouts, and had come to find him.
She hadn’t anticipated such a lively gathering.
“And who might this be?” Miao Hujin inquired, noticing the newcomer.
Yun Hai exchanged a glance with Yun Tiantian and introduced her, saying,
“This is my daughter, Yun Tiantian.”
“Yun Tiantian, come and pay your respects to the elder!”
“Oh!” A bit intimidated by Yun Hai, Yun Tiantian approached shyly. She bowed to the white-bearded, white-haired elder and said,
“Greetings, Elder. You must be the master my brother always speaks of, right? You certainly have a commanding presence, just as I imagined.”
Miao Hujin chuckled heartily and responded, “Yun Haoyan has mentioned you to me as well!”
“What did he say?” Yun Tiantian inquired, her eyes brimming with curiosity.
With a smile and a stroke of his beard, Miao Hujin replied,
“He told me you’re obedient, sensible, intelligent, and adorable.”
“Is that so?” Yun Tiantian beamed, her smile so wide it seemed she couldn’t contain her joy.
The elders, Yun Hai, and Yun Haoyan all shared a laugh at her delight.
In that moment, Miao Hujin produced a small jade bottle from his Dimensional Ring and handed it to Yun Tiantian, saying,
“For our first meeting, I’d like to give you a little something.”
“Thank you!” Yun Tiantian’s eyes sparkled at the mention of a gift.
She eagerly opened the bottle and tipped out a pill, much to Yun Hai’s chagrin, who was too late to intervene.
Unwrapping a gift in front of others was considered impolite, but Yun Tiantian, still so young, was oblivious to this.
“An eight-lined pill! It’s a top-grade Qi Refining Pill,” an elder exclaimed, having caught sight of the pill inside the bottle.
He was well-acquainted with Qi Refining Pills, yet it was his first encounter with one bearing eight lines.
