Chapter 59: Historical Constellations
Chapter 59: Historical Constellations
-----
“We’re finally here.” I celebrated.
“Huh? An old-looking building?” Kevin wondered.
"Strange; despite looking old, it doesn’t look deteriorated or destroyed like everything else." Baihe commented.
“Right!” Annabelle nodded. “I can sense something within, tons of mana!”
In front of us, there was a large, old-looking manor that looked straight out of the 1800’s. This wasn’t something that existed here years ago, when the city had yet to be destroyed“Despite its looks, it’s a dungeon." I smiled.
Yeah, this was the dungeon I’d been looking for—an inconspicuous-looking old house nobody would ever wander inside. It is supposed to be an Ancient Tomb that would emerge in the Second Awakening; however, because the Constellation behind this Dungeon is very weak, he had difficulties maintaining the Dungeon, and it has recently resurfaced ahead of time.
The reason why there aren’t any Administrators around looking for this problem is very easy; it is mostly because none of them care about it. Administrators have huge biases and often treat the big shots preferentially.
Anything below is... well, they don’t really care at all. There are many types of Constellations out there; some represent ancient and powerful gods, and others... Others were merely historical figures who made history by themselves.
These are called Historical Constellations and are the weakest of the bunch; they all have the potential to become even stronger once the Second Awakening happens if they are lucky enough to get a strong Incarnation.
“A Dungeon?” Wondered Baihe. “This thing?”
“It is rather odd." Kevin sighed. "So, how did you know this was here?”
“A Constellation told me.” I giggled.
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] is watching you with a meaningful look.]
[He is wondering why you have come to his humble resting place.]
Well, it looks like he’s looking now.
“For now, just stay here; I’ll get this done myself; there’s nothing inside, so don’t worry,” I said, stepping forward.
“O-Oi! Are you planning on keeping with the reward?!” Kevin asked angrily.
“Well, you can fight me for it if you want once I come out of it.” I smiled back at him. “Though, what would your sister say if you were blinded by greed and attacked me, your friend, and the little sister of the one she loves?”
“A-Ah…” Kevin quickly stepped back. “Well, do whatever you want."
“Baihe, look for these two while I’m inside for a little while,” I said.
“Alright, leave it to me.” Baihe nodded.
“Hmm, this is weird, but I’ll let you do it if you want to.” Annabelle giggled.
“Thank you,” I said, stepping forward and touching the door.
Once I did that, a second later, a golden glow encompassed my entire body.
FLASH!
[To step inside the [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] Dungeon, you must have completed certain requirements.]
[Analyzing History…]
[You have saved the lives of 50 people or more.]
[You have freed 10 or more innocents from the chains of oppression.]
[Your Primary Element is Light.]
[Your Primary Alignment is: Righteous]
[You have been born in the United States of America.]
[You have completed all requirements!]
The doors opened, as I entered the dungeon.
BAAM!
And then, the doors instantly closed behind me, as I found myself inside an old and rustic house, filled with dust everywhere.
“Alright… I’m here.” I sighed in relief.
[You have entered the [Humble House of Abraham Lincoln]!]
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] has recognized you as a worthy successor.]
[He smiles gently, offering you the items inside his house.]
[“I’ve been looking for someone who can protect my country with a righteous heart and a good nature. I expected a boy, but... You’re good enough, hahaha.”]
“You don’t sound at all like other constellations; did you ever want to participate in this madness?” I wondered.
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] sighs.]
[He explains that when he died, the only thing that greeted him was an endless darkness.]
[Once he was finally fully aware of himself, he had already become what he is now.]
[And without any other option, he decided to participate.]
“I guess that’s an expected response... Now, where’s the goods?”
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] is beginning to rethink his choices.]
[He sighs and then glances inside his house.]
[The Cosmic Historical Figure says that you are free to choose a single item within this entire house. From magic tomes to powerful swords or even coats that can make you unseen, whatever you choose, it’ll become a Relic where a part of himself will exist.]
Just like in the novel, the dungeon of Abraham Lincoln is much different than others. He doesn’t want to fight at all and wants to mostly observe and help somebody qualified.
Unlike other very greedy historical figures, he doesn’t even have the desire to rise in the ranks and become stronger either. He is simply worried about his people and wants someone capable of doing just that—protecting humanity from the terrible things that have yet to come.
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] says he’s rather weak, but he’ll help you protect humanity.]
“Thank you, Abraham; I’ll take this then.” I smiled at him, taking a tiny, inconspicuous item lying in the corner of the living room, covered in dust.
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] is surprised. He asks you if you’re sure about this decision.]
[There are other items; some are S-Rank instead!]
“Nah, despite this item’s rank, the value of all other items here can’t really compare,” I said.
[The Cosmic Historical Figure smiles; his inability to understand your thought process actually makes him amused.]
[His desire to protect you and the promising youth of this country has risen even more.]
[He accepts your decision and gifts you this Relic.]
[You’ve chosen the Relic: [Abraham’s Lincoln Monocle (B Rank)]!]
Suddenly, a flash of bright light emerged from within the ceiling, landing on the monocle and imbuing it with divine power.
“W-Woah, this damn constellation is imbuing a part of himself into a relic?!” Sepa asked. “Doesn’t he know that he could be greatly hurt if your relic breaks?”
“He knows.” I laughed. “But it looks like, unlike some cowardly constellations that like to see everything unfold comfortably in their homes, he wants to change things with his own presence, even if it is small and insignificant compared to the vast entities within the cosmos.”
[The Relic: Abraham's Lincoln Monocle (B Rank)] has become the vessel of a part of the Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery]!]
[Its Durability has increased by +1000!]
[The Item Rank has risen from B Rank to A Rank as a result!]
-----
[Abraham’s Lincoln Monocle]
{Item Type}: [Accessory] [Glasses]
{Item Quality}: [A Rank]
{Item Requirement}: [The Approval of Abraham Lincoln]
{Item Durability}: [2000/2000]
{Item Effects}
[MP]: [+250] [INT]: [+150] [WIS]: [+250] [LUC]: [+150] [CHM]: [+250]
{Item Abilities}
[Ancient Monocle]: While equipped, it reduces all Skills Cooldowns by -50%.
[President’s Authority]: By exchanging 250 Durability, it is possible to instantly reset the Cooldown of a Skill once every 7 days.
-----
And well, here’s the reason why this item is so good! So many of my Skills have cooldowns that it is a bit frustrating, so with this, we can half their cooldown time, and even more, I could even activate its special ability to reset a skill’s cooldown instantly.
However, I have to keep a close look at the durability; I can only do this eight times before the item breaks. So it is still risky, and unless there’s no way out, I won’t use it. This item is specifically for emergencies.
In the novel, this item was actually acquired by a Hunter named James Whitehouse, a stereotypically American man who had sponsored several American presidents. He had tons of useful gadgets and became an ally of my brother; however, he died shortly after the events where he appeared, which were at the near end of the Second Awakening, when the Apostles started to manifest.
It would be a waste if all these items were lost to a character that could die in the future. Right? So I’ll just take them all for myself and become sponsored by as many American presidents as I can! They’re exceptionally easy to make my allies.
“Heh, God bless America; am I right, Abraham?” I giggled almost deviously.
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] shakes in awe of your creepy smiling face.]
[He is beginning to regret his decision to choose you as his representative.] [He has started to think that the blonde boy you left behind could have been a better one.]
"Ah, shut up; you’re stuck with me now.” I sighed. “Don’t be so selfish; now let’s go; we’ve got monsters to kill and a city to save.”
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] is shaken by your unrefined, not ladylike attitude.]
[He wonders if the youth have been corrupted by modern social media.]
“Social media? Ah, I guess you’re a boomer, huh?” I wondered, stepping out of the house as it suddenly started to dissipate into particles of light.
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] sighs.]
“Well, whatever, you did your thing, and you had your time. Now it is the time for the youth to save this world. And hopefully, let’s not talk about politics either; with monsters swarming the world, that’s the least we have to worry about nowadays." I sighed.
[The Cosmic Historical Figure [Breaker of the Chains of Slavery] says that politics are part of human nature, and even in this post-apocalyptic world, they influence society as a whole.]
[To not embrace them is to accept being ignorant!]
I’m going to ignore him; I don’t even know history that well. Everything I know is the most surface-level stuff. And well, this is a different parallel world than the Earth from which my previous life memories came, meaning that this world's history could be completely different. Damn, maybe in this world Abraham really did hunt vampires?
“Ah, she’s back faster than I thought,” Kevin said.
“Anna! Did you, huh? An old... monocle?” Baihe felt disappointed by my choice.
“Hehehe, she looks funny!” Annabelle pointed her finger at me.
“H-Hey! This is the latest fashion of the early 1800’s!” I complained. “Ugh, well, let’s do this for now.”
I tapped the monocle twice, and then it suddenly turned invisible. It is part of its innate abilities.
“See? It has disappeared now! All clean and-”
Suddenly, a tremendous tremor reverberated a few kilometers from here, as if the ground itself had blown up, and a dark presence started to emerge from within. Then, we saw the origin of the tremor; it was a gigantic piece of dark purple crystal, emanating a powerful, corrupting black aura.
[The Mysterious Darkness is expanding.]
[The Manifestation of the Seventh is slowly coming together…]
Alright, we have to hurry.
