Chapter 186 A Man And A Book
The group expected to see many things inside the temple… but not a staircase that went down for hundreds of meters. For some odd reason, they couldn't even see the light at the bottom… one could even think that things were built like that to make them waste time.
"The heck is this shit?" Aion asked.
"This is a place built by your ancestors… you should at least watch your language," Sauros said.
"As if we have time to think about this… can you imagine the pain it will be to go up?" Aion asked. "The diversion is running away now, so the enemies will have the chance to surround us."
"Putting that aside… how is your hand?" Sauros asked. "You broke it, and several fingers started to bleed. That was why you opened the barrier so fast."
"This is nothing," Aion said.
Actually, Aion was about to scream like a little girl, but his pride prevented him from doing that. Now that he thinks about it opening the entrance to leave the barrier will be hard since the enemies will have the chance to see him doing so. He had to think of a way to prevent that. That being said, the relic comes first.
While they were going down the stairs, Aion realized that the next diversion would have to be even more powerful… attacking with the same fist would be the same as asking for a dominatrix to kick him in the balls. Aion will have to use the other hand after using some coins to increase his endurance.
After going down for ten minutes, the group finally found a light deep in that endless hole. Aion was in such a hurry that he jumped without care. He didn't consider that his ancestors might have laid traps along the way. Still, that would be insane since only those with his blood could cross the barrier. Unless they wanted to prank him.
When they landed on the floor of the final part of the temple, they saw another part that looked like it hadn't aged a bit in three thousand years. While things down there didn't look fancy like a castle, the floor sure was sparkling, the columns were massive, and they still looked like someone put a lot of care into them. The walls were pretty plain, even though Aion expected to see some messages from his ancestors. Even though he didn't find anything in the first temple.
"I almost can picture her lonely face when she made all this…" Sauros said.
"The goddess, huh… come to think of it, this sure looks like a place built by someone who felt pretty lonely while doing so," Seris added.
Aion didn't want to be any more disrespectful. Still, he wished that his ancestor had built that place and written something useful instead of just grieving over the loss of her friends… Aion at least knew that he couldn't even bring himself to understand her pain. Trying so hard to save the world and then lose the people that she wanted to save the world for…
The group headed to the other side of the room and eventually found a large table where they found a statue. Which was a bit different from the other one… after checking his inventory, Aion noticed that the first had the shape of a man with a sword, and the second had the shape of a man with a book… he wondered if they had a reason to look like that.
"You can store things inside your weapon, right, Aion?" Sauros said. "If something happens, the statue will be safe with you."
"You guys sure have a lot of faith in me, and you never ask anything about the things that I can do…" Aion said while furrowing his eyebrows.
"It isn't like you would answer if we asked," Sauros shrugged.
He had a point, but Aion still was suspicious of their behavior. In any case, before touching the statue, Aion felt the surroundings with his magic for any kind of trap, but he didn't notice anything. He eventually grabbed the weapon and didn't feel any changes either, so he stored it away.
"Now we have to think of a way to escape without revealing anything about the barrier," Sauros said. "Let's do that while we climb the stairs.
That will take a while, so they might as well save some time. It took a few minutes for them to reach the top of the building, but at that point, they didn't come up with any decent plan. Aion could attack with his wounded hand to open the Barrier and erect another dust cloud, but that would make everyone suspicious and think that he was the key.
"I guess we will have to risk it," Sauros said. "Aion, if you fire an arrow with your blood toward the enemies and Serie enhances your technique, it should make everyone lose their focus for a moment."
"What if he attacks the place where the barrier is?" Seris asked. "The impact will raise dust on both sides.
"They still will connect the dots since they definitely attacked the barrier in many ways," Sauros said...
"Aw, screw it, this is too much of a pain," Aion said. "Everything will be fine as long as I keep my face hidden. Your disguise ring would help, but I will end up damaging it. Anyway, follow me and cover your faces because the next attack will be even worse."
Aion had healed his hands, but another attack, and this time stronger, certainly will undo the healing and make it even worse… still, Aion left the building, and hundreds of people around looked at him. They raised their weapons when Aion began to dash, but then they protected their faces when Aion jumped and then crossed the barrier. In the last moment, he used Inner Release and then punched the ground. The impact on the ground made Aion feel his blood run cold due to the pain, but at the same time, it made the entire city tremble…
