Chapter 221 Maritime Chaos
The swarm of monsters looked even more ominous as they approached. Sauros and Seris tried to keep shooting and slowed them down a bit, but it was hard for them to swim backward and do that. It wasn't like they were faster than the monsters, after all… Still, their best option was to retreat to the Breeze of the Sea and let the others offer them some fire support.
"I guess I need to do that here as well…" Aion thought, and then created an earth platform and made those two stand on it while he was pushing it backward.
Their speed increased, and now Sauros and Seris could attack while leaving Aion to deal with the mobility. They got a bit surprised, but then soon they recovered.
"Shit, this isn't good…" Aion thought when he saw the monsters approaching while Sauros and Seris were reloading.
Aion readied his spear since he didn't have time or any more mana to waste… he had to fight those things up close. In the end, Seris touched his shoulder and increased his speed, but that could do so much underwater.
When the first enemy approached, Aion thrust his spear with all his might. He felt some resistance, and his movements were a lot slower than expected. Still, since the enemy came in a straight line, Aion managed to kill it and made the weapon absorb it before the next target could approach.
Once again, Aion thrust his weapon forward and killed an enemy. However, before he could finish it off, another one approached, and Aion punched with his left hand. The impact opened some cracks in the enemy's shell and made them move away from the enemies a bit more. That had been enough to buy time for two of those two. Unfortunately, another problem arrived… they had caught up with the crew that was trying to escape…
"I can't relax for even a moment, huh…" Aion thought.
Aion considered his options in that situation… they still were two or three kilometers away from the ship… to avoid luring too many monsters toward the vessel, they made The Breeze of the Sea keep a distance. All in order to avoid it being damaged, but now they couldn't receive their support.
"If I increase the platform and then make it fly, as well as a change to the necromancer class, I should be able to make it fly for thirty seconds. Then I will be out of mana…" Aion thought. "Let's hope that will be enough for this…"
Aion increased his speed and then increased the size of the platform at the same time. They quickly approached the other crew members and forced them to join the platform. When everyone was on it, Aion emerged as the platform for the ocean and made it fly as fast as possible toward the Breeze of the Sea. However, the monster followed them even in that condition by jumping from the ocean.
"Get rid of them!" Aion shouted.
Everyone readied their weapon and aimed at the monsters approaching. Still, some of them that jumped right below from the platform still hit it and made it tremble. Aion didn't make that thinking of durability, so a few more hits and the whole thing will fall apart.
Aion looked in the distance and sat the Breeze of the Sea one kilometer away. The day wasn't over yet, but Aion truly felt embarrassed about running away from a few monsters and then relying on the magic cannons of the ship… regardless, he also noticed that the Breeze of the Sea began to move once someone saw them… at the same time, the platform started to lose altitude, and Aion's mind became quite light.
The group braced themselves for the impact, but the platform didn't fall that fast, and it even slipped into the ocean for a while before it could sink. During that time, the crew members pointed their weapons at the enemies approaching and didn't worry about running out of ammo all at once. They only wanted to buy enough time for their friends to come and offer fire support.
As for Aion, he mitigated the effects of his mana deprivation by changing to the archer class and then nocked his arrows and began to fire them as he saw the enemies emerging from the water. In the end, Aion had an easy time hitting them now that he knew that his arrows wouldn't suffer with the water resistance… he had to stop when the entire platform sunk. Still, the Breeze of the Sea was already within range to help them.
"Move to the back of the ship. Leave the line of fire!" Sauros declared.
The crew members in the ocean hurried to climb the ship while the cannons were helping them. Still, even with the addition of the cannons that they found on the island, it was difficult to keep all of the enemies away. Some monsters managed to attack the ship, and while the armor was working, they couldn't rely on it forever.
"Reload your weapons!" Sauros shouted. "This is our chance to exterminate all of them!"
The crew members prepared themselves to rejoin the fight. At the same time, Aion sat down and began to meditate with his spear already in hand. Still, it didn't take long for him, even in that stance, to fight as well. When the next monsters approached the ship and almost slammed themselves against it, Aion made his spear fly toward them, and without the underwater resistance, he pierced them so fast that their bodies practically exploded.
"Leave the defense to me… again, I guess," Aion declared.
Aion's spear flew around the area and killed all the monsters targeting the ship. Eventually, he made the weapon move a bit further away and eliminated the monsters before they could even leave the ocean. Sauros thought that Aion was soon going to run out of mana, so the others had to help him recover. However, that never happened…
