Since Dash increased his movement speed by five percent per level, Aion wondered how fast he could become one day… it would come with an insane cost in stamina, though. In any case, before he had the chance to train that, Aion had a surprise the next day.
"From today onwards, you will attend the classes with the battle instructor that teaches your siblings tactics for large-scale battles and the small ones," Lexus declared. "Your mother will teach you some etiquette as well since she is already teaching you history."
Aion didn't know if he was informed of that by his mother or by someone else. Either way, he didn't look angry since it was something he had to learn eventually for the sake of his future job. Come to think of it, Aion wondered where his half-brothers spent their afternoons… they left the mansion once or twice per week, but only that. They have been receiving quite the education since an early age… their behavior toward Aion's mother was probably their only shortcoming.
"You should have lunch with us from this day onward, and then you will go to the library to have the lessons," Lexus said.
"I am fine with having lunch alongside mother in our room," Aion said.
"I see… suit yourself," Lexus said.
Aion thought that his father would at leas try to give him an order or something, but he gave up rather easily. It didn't look like he was giving his special treatment, it was more like he knew that Aion could decide that kind of thing for himself… or perhaps even him wouldn't take a child from the arms of their mother more than he has to.
On the first day of the tactics lessons, Aion only received a book and was told to read by an old man who had two scars in his face. All of his hair was turned white, so he looked a pretty wise retired warrior. In any case, Aion's father recognized his mind, but he didn't recognize the strength of his body, so learning new techniques will have to wait.
In any case, the book that Aion had to read only had basic stuff. When it comes to small battles, leading a small steam while taking the front was good to raise morale. However, against an enemy that was too numerous, that was close to suicide.
The book told Aion to consider and keep an eye on many things during fights. The terrain, the situation of his allies and of the enemies. The weather, what kind of weapons they used and so on. Simple stuff easy to remember. When everyone finished reading the books, the instructor began to ask questions and those gave the wrong answer had to pay fifty push ups. Aion felt bad for his half brothers since they had to do that pretty often. As for him, he had an easy time answering the questions. It was practically unfair since he was an adult and knew how to study.
During the first week, the instructor ended up repeating the questions many times in order for the kids to engrave the knowledge in their hearts. That might save their lives one day… and the lives of others as well. Without soldiers, the number of things that high ranked commanders could do was limited.
One day, when he was heading to the library, Aion saw his sisters leaving the place. Despite their situation, they got along well. It also seemed that they were studying something, Aion assumed that it was magic, but he didn't find such books in the library.
"I read some stories about female commanders who were also wizards… It seems like people here don't accept women as ordinary soldiers, but accomplished magicians was another thing altogether," Aion thought.
The most famous mage could make rain fireballs on several armies or change the enviroment of a battefleild to help their allies… it was kind of surprising. One would need a shit ton of mana to do that. Even with the system, Aion could only fire fifteen or so Fireballs, not like he had the chance to try at his home.
"Well, it looks like this is a middle-ages society, so it is only obvious that nobles would make their daughters learn magic instead of forcing them to train like boys," Aion thought. "Things should be different among ordinary people."
Aion also heard about some groups of mercenaries joining battles and they accepted everyone. Speaking of which, Aion read the book about a famous mercenary woman who used knives to fight… and she had six arms. That was certainly an opponent that he didn't want to deal with.
Aion found himself imagining a battle agaisnt an opponent trying to stab him with six knives. She probably could use two of them to block a sword or any other weapon strike and then attack Aion with the others.
"Guns of Babylon!" Aion imagined himself firing dozens of fireballs toward the enemy. "As expected, magic can come in handy in this kind of situation. I can't wait to replicate such a thing while saying the same words."
Aside from those changes in his routine, Aion began to learn etiquette from his mother. He couldn't deny that it was one of the most boring things to learn… how act noblish and pompous. Still, he hide his thoughts from his mother. She had fun teaching him that and more about history and since those things he learned after a few tries, the lessons were ending quite fast.
Since his days were filled with training and study, Aion lost the notion of time, and in the blink of an eye, he became five years old and then he heard some news regarding his family…
