Chapter 181 - 181 Best Friend <2>
181 Best Friend <2>
“How about if we take a walk?” Kate suggested and walked forward. Her voice was high pitched that belonged to a kid, but her gaze and action was very similar to the person whom Lucy had known for years.
Her subtle action that Lucy was familiar with was also present in Kate’s small form, making it hard for those who knew her well not to recognize her.
But it was precisely because of this that Lucy felt extremely conflicted.
Seeing Kate, Lucy finally took a deep breath and nodded. “Let’s go out and take a walk.”
“It is good.”
The two of them walked out of the research institute towards the ruins. Only part of the city had been transformed into cities with a lot of people living there and helped each other to build more housed for them to stay.
Some people who majored in architecture were incredibly busy to design the houses that would not violate the law that the military had set up and the other people were following the design strictly. Even if they had awakened power, they would not dare to guarantee that they could build better houses without the help of these architect.
What if they build a poorly made house?
No one wanted to have their roof collapsed on them when they were inside.
.....
Thus, everyone was working seriously and also consulted these architects who had spent their lives to design houses for people to live.
“Kate,” Lucy called out when they reached the ruins and stopped in front of a large rock. The rock was relatively flat at the top, which could be used as sitting location.
“What is it?” Kate asked with a faint smile. “Still doubting that I’m Kate?”
“No. I can’t doubt that.” Lucy smiled bitterly. When she saw Kate, she had seen the shadow of the adult Kate right behind this young girl. It was then she understood very well that this childlike Kate is indeed the same Kate who had helped her a lot in the university.
But it was precisely because she knew that Lucy felt extremely bitter.
How in the world that her best friend ended up being a child?
Just what in the world was these damned red rain and those giant mutated animals that appeared?
Why did they have to change their world so much?
There were countless questions and indignation within Lucy’s heart, but those were thoughts that she couldn’t bring out.
“So, what happened?” Lucy asked.
Kate thought and then explained in simpler terms. She hid many things that would be better to be left unsaid, but she told Lucy about her changing into a cat and had been following Professor Kyle all these times. It was because of a gem that she managed to regain her human form, but her age was completely wrong.
There were also a few things that Kate didn’t tell Lucy such as the extent of her abilities and the details of her experience.
Lucy looked at Kate and laughed lightly. “So you’re saying that because of an accidental touch before you faint, you end up becoming a cat?”
“Yeah.” Kate sighed. “I’m wearing this hat to cover up my ears because there’s no other mutated children out there. I don’t want to be brought by the researchers for study just because I’m somewhat special.”
“That’s just somewhat?” Lucy’s lips twitched.
“Yep.”
“I think that even I can’t help but wonder if there’s any other reason why you’re turning into a cat.” Lucy laughed. “But thinking about it from another perspective, if you had realized that your pencil case is missing earlier, you wouldn’t have touched the cat when you reach the classroom.”
After all, Kate had indeed put the little cat down at that time. Just another second and she wouldn’t touch the cat when she fainted. But that didn’t happen in that very moment and Kate eventually turned into a cat.
“Didn’t I tell you that I was startled by that Lotus’ scream that I paused for a moment from looking at my things?” Kate shook her head.
The difference of few seconds could sometimes determine many things.
Kate thought to herself that if she hadn’t stopped for a few moments because of Lotus scream, she would have entered the classroom earlier and no longer touched the cat when the lightning struck.
That way, she would have nothing to do with Kyle.
They would live a completely different life.
“So, what’s your ability?” Lucy asked. “Wait, if you’re Kyle’s cat, that mean your ability is that of space and healing?”
“How do you know?” Kate was stunned. Did her ability had spread so widely?”
“A lot of people are talking about that in the research institute about how powerful a cat could be.” Lucy laughed. She grinned. “Well, I have enhancement talent and had been collecting several gems on my way. Tsk, tsk, these people are very annoying to hide the fact that the gems are more valuable than crystals.”
“That’s because gems are rarer and many people want to take advantage during the time when people didn’t know to monopolize them.” Kate was calm. “So, what’s your rank?”
“Rank 5. I’m going to reach my third minor advancement soon.” Lucy smiled. “I guess I’m lucky enough to find several orange gem on my way and took them so that I can get stronger. But at the same time, my training usually consists of beating the hell out of those giant mutated animals so that I can get stronger.”
Kate thought about Lucy punching those giant mutated animals back then and laughed out loudly.
Yep, that was Lucy alright.
While the two of them were laughing freely, Kyle stopped a distance away from them. He had heard from the others that someone was looking for Little Kitty and it seemed to be introduced by Kate’s parents.
After thinking for a while, Kyle decided to follow the route and saw the scene when the two girls were laughing happily. He looked at the two of them for a while then turned around.
