Chapter 93
93 Stay at Home
After the breakfast, General Ryan departed. His face was black when his adjutant saw that his eyes were a bit blue and swollen.
He silently scolded his own son inside his mind before ignoring the curious gazes from his subordinates. It was fine for Kyle not to get out at all for the day, but it was different from him because he had to pay a visit to the military.
Tsk, his son was indeed very annoying.
Meanwhile.
Kyle brought Kate to his study room. Upon seeing the room that was decorated so similarly to the study room he had in City A, Kate had the feeling that Kyle just liked this arrangement and purposely made them to be similar with one another.
Well, not that she complained.
“Stay here.”
Kate looked around Kyle’s table and scoffed inside her mind. There was really no different from the study room she saw in City A.
She looked at the small globe that Kyle had on his table. Raising her paw, she conveniently played with it, turning it around. This mini globe looked really big in front of her now that she had grown smaller.
.....
‘I have long forgotten many of the geography lesson.’
Kate took her gazes back when she heard Kyle had put the books and sat down. She snuggled towards his left arm.
“You’re going to sleep again, Heartless Little One?” Kyle looked at the little cat in his hand helplessly.
“Meow~.”
Being a kitten, what Kate needed the most was sleep. She knew that even though she had that strange ability that allowed her to protect herself, she was truly not used to the life of a soldier who would have to be prepared to lose their life all the time.
Asking her to stay vigilant 24 hours a day was impossible.
Kate knew that very well.
This was one of the reason she chose to latch onto Kyle and clung to him. It was because she felt save when she was with him. She knew that he will protect her because she’s still his ‘little cat.’
Until she could protect herself, she will just stay with him.
Kyle looked at the sleeping kitten and patted her head lightly. “You keep on sleeping, are you not afraid of getting fat?”
“Meow!”
“Even a cat is worried about being fat?” Kyle laughed lightly.
Kate’s whiskers flared when she heard his words. Of course she’s worried about getting fat! She didn’t want to get fat! Her mother always liked to bake cake and she had to resist eating them at night and could only pack some to eat in the university or she would not be able to stand it and snacked at night.
If she did that, she was afraid that she will end up getting fatter.
“Meow!”
“Ok, ok, you can sleep.” Kyle stopped teasing the little cat and focused on his book.
“Meow!”
Kate meowed once more and then closed her eyes. She used his hand as a pillow and then fell asleep quickly.
Only the sound of pace being turned could be heard inside the room.
Time passed quietly.
When Kate woke up again, she saw that it was close to the time for lunch. She stretched her body and then her expression turned strange.
The white dots seemed to be a bit clearer?
Kate then looked at her paws and tried to control the white dots from within her body and realized that it was indeed true. These white dots were clearer and easier to control now.
She had reached rank 3?
Kate meowed in happiness.
“What is it, Little Kitty?” Kyle saw that Kate was staring at her paws excitedly and arched his eyebrows.
“Meow!”
Kyle definitely didn’t understand, but he could see that the little cat was happy. There were only few reasons why she could be happy. First, it must be when she managed to sneak a snack without him knowing. Second, it happened when she ranked up.
“Did you reach rank 3 in your healing ability?”
“Meow!”
Kyle smiled. “Good girl.”
Kate happily snuggled to Kyle’s hand.
“However, the next rank up might take a long time. Based on what the other people are saying, it’s not so simple to rank up from rank 3 to 4. Even if it’s you, it might also take a long of time.”
“Meow.”
“It’s close to the time for lunch. I’ll order a takeaway.” Kyle took out his phone, planning to call for takeaway.
“Meow?”
“Hmm?”
Kyle noticed that Kate was pulling his sleeve. He looked at Kate with bewilderment and then a raw egg appeared on his palm.
Kyle: “...”
Is this little cat asking him to cook?
“Meow?” Kate tilted her head.
Kyle sighed deeply and picked Kate up. “Fine, let’s cook for our lunch. Do you want something else aside from milk?”
Kate was seriously contemplating what she wanted to eat. General Ryan said that the stomach of mutated animals was stronger, but she didn’t want to overstrain herself and stuffed herself until she got sick.
That was not worth it.
In that case, she would have to pick some kind of food that she thought that she could handle...
They reached the kitchen and Kyle put Kate on top of the counter. He looked at the cat with arched eyebrows. All the supplies were within Kate’s space, so he would have to wait for her to decide.
“Meow?” Kate then took out a chunk of meat on the counter followed with several vegetables.
“Soup?” Kyle asked.
“Meow.” Kate nodded.
She was not sure about Kyle’s culinary ability because she had never seen him cook aside from heating up some food. Because of that, she would rather pick the simplest type of food that could be made even by people with poor cooking ability.
*cough*
That person was definitely her.
For some reason, she didn’t inherit her mother’s good culinary ability and end up just like her father.
Oh well, her father is worse.
He had accidentally burned some food in the past and got scolded by her mother severely.
She still hadn’t burned anything so badly... just a little burn.
A little bit...
Kate didn’t want to remember that.
“Alright.” Kyle could see that the little cat was hesitating and guessed that she might be suspecting his culinary ability. Well, he definitely couldn’t say that he cooked the best, but it was definitely not that bad.
After all, he had to participate in several wilderness survival activity and at that time, he definitely had to cook by himself if he wanted to survive. He could still cook a bit and it was good enough for him.
Soon, Kyle finished cutting the meat and vegetables. He put them into the pot and turned the fire up.
Afterwards, Kyle cooked some rice that was enough for them to eat.
He ate a lot and the little cat... probably just a few pieces. He definitely couldn’t guarantee that the little cat will be able to eat a lot with her small size.
Soon, the sweet aroma spread from the pot.
Kate stared at the pot with glistening eyes. She hoped that it would taste edible.
“Let me taste it first.” Kyle took a spoon and tasted the soup he made. It had some saltiness, which was a definite. Aside from that, there were only the richness that came from the vegetables and meat he had put inside.
“Wait a bit more.”
“Meow.”
“Are you already so impatient?” Kyle asked with a faint smile and picked Kate up, carrying her to his shoulder.
“Meow!”
Kate complained, but she soon realized that she could use her claw to hang there. After moving for a bit, she finally settled in a position that was close to Kyle’s neck. It was the place where she could watch what he was doing and didn’t need to worry about falling down all the time.
She would rather stay in his arm, though.
.....
“Alright, it’s done.” Kyle turned the fire off and brought the pot to the dining room. Afterwards, he put Kate on the table so that she could wait there. He went to the kitchen and then carried the rice.
After it was done, he looked at Kate. “Your milk.”
“Meow.”
The box of milk appeared and Kyle skillfully made the milk as fast as possible. It was made at warm temperature, which was suitable for Kate.
Kyle then proceeded to prepare a small plate for Kate to eat the others. He put some vegetables and meat and cut them up into small pieces so that Kate would be able to eat. Naturally, he also placed a few rice in case Kate wanted it.
“Alright, time to eat.”
