Chapter 18 Oracle Heights
"Hmm~ I see, Miss Sarah, wants to put Cathy in the same 'business' as her?" Chris opened his mouth, staring straight into landlady-aka Sarah's eyes...
"You know Miss Sarah, I just heard something really interesting about you too." Chris opened his mouth, drawing attention from all the mobs nearby.
"You know that guy, Jim? The one that lives a bit away from here and is my friend." Chris asked curiously, "He told me that he once 'met' you in the convenience store."
"Now now, Chrisy, no need to dig through the old graves." Sarah hurriedly waved her hand for Chris to stop.
"Don't call me by that stupid nickname, and the crowd seems pretty interested, it will be bad to disappoint them, no?"
"Yeah, Chris! Tell us what happened with that rich guy!" a random girl shouted at Chris, urging him to continue.
"Well, Jim had just gotten his thick paycheque, and our lovely Miss Sarah, noticed his not-so-modest purse!" Chris built some mystery and then revealed the truth, making Sarah's face redden significantly.
"Then??" the crowd urged Chris again as they looked at the ongoing drama and Sarah's nervous actions.
"What else, she 'offered' her 'help' to him and tried to woo him." Chris laughed, making Sarah's face redden even more.
She, a 35-year-old middle age lady was hitting on a 19-year-old teen? That was beyond shameful for her!
"Oh~ So, Sarah, did you succeed in doing 'business' with Jim?" a random lady smirked at Sarah and teased.
"Chris, don't makeup lies!" Sarah shouted loudly, ignoring her friend's tease.
"Huh? Lies? Jim got proof that you were hitting on him though, want me to ask for those?" Chris tilted his head and asked, acting confused.
"Yeah! Yeah! Ask Jim." the crowd cheered Chris once again, looking forward to shaming Sarah after that.
"No need to go so far for your lie, dear Chris, weren't you going somewhere? Get going already." Sarah laughed nervously and pushed Cathy towards Chris, wanting him to just shut up and piss off.
"Let's go then." Chris also didn't take the shaming to higher levels and walked to the bike while Cathy followed behind him, looking at him in wonder and awe.
"Where are you going, Chris?" a middle-aged man who had always kept his greedy eyes on Chris's bike saw Chris walk towards the bike and he intervened.
"To 'my' bike Mr. Roy," Chris gave a sarcastic smile to the middle-aged man that was lusting at his new bike.
"Hah! Your bike? Nice one Chris." Roy laughed, still blocking Chris's way to the bike.
"Mr. Roy, does Ms. Greta know about you and Ms. Sarah?" Chris grinned and asked Roy with a slight smirk on his face, since he always had a habit to keep up with all the interesting news and rumors that go around, he also heard about Roy's affair this way.
Hearing that, Roy quickly moved away from Chris's way and watched from the sidelines, unwilling to have a fight with his wife. However, he still didn't believe that the bike was Chris's and was waiting for Chris to embarrass himself.
Chris ignored the mocking looks of the crowd and fished out fancy-looking bike keys from his pocket. In the bright sunlight, that lustrous silver key sparkled, its unique and exotic design easily attracting the attention of the crowd.
Chris scoffed at those buffoons and sat on the bike, he inserted the key in the keyhole and twisted it gently.
*click* *vroom*
The key clicked in the slot and with a very low sound, the bike's engine came to life.
"Cath, stop gawking like an idiot and sit." Chris looked at Cathy and pushed the bike out of the parking with his legs.
"A-Ah," Cathy quickly nodded and hurriedly climbed on the bike, under the heated and shocked looks of the crowd the Duke took off.
*Vroom!*
Before the crowd can even say a word to Chris, his bike accelerated. With its high pick-up speed, the bike easily disappeared from their sights in just a few seconds!
"T-This is really our bike..." Cathy murmured in a daze, feeling the fast cold wind tickling her body, making her hair flap wildly sitting behind Chris who still haven't got enough of his wild driving.
"DRIVE SLOW CHRIS!" Cathy shouted, tightly clinging onto Chris and wrapping her arms around his waist as he drove the bike at 100kmph, weaving his way through the light traffic.
"IT'S FUN," Chris laughed loudly, accelerating the bike even more eliciting scared shrieks from Cathy every time a vehicle whizzed by their bike.
Cathy's long black hair flew in the air while her long one-piece dress flapped wildly, she still gripped Chris tightly who had no intention of lowering the speed.
"Eek!" Cathy screamed seeing a fast truck heading their way,
Chris quickly clenched the clutch and pressed the gear of the bike, simultaneously pressing the brakes gently. He maneuvered the steering with a slight amateur style causing the balance to shake slightly and make the bike skid.
*Skid*
Duke drifted for a short distance and quickly changed its direction to the side, dodging the truck by a hair's breadth!
"Bastard! Drive slowly!" Cathy punched Chris's shoulders maniacally as her heartbeats raced from the near-death accident.
"Haha haha..." Chris laughed nervously and toned down the bike speed to a reasonable limit, he himself had all his raging adrenaline washed off when faced with such a close death.
...
*Skid*
Chris's bike drifted to a stop in front of a huge skyscraper that touched the skies and was no doubt the biggest building that Chris had seen all his life.
Cathy's eyes widened seeing that huge building that was at least 20 times larger than their current residence!!
"Y-You are sure this is our destination?" Cathy asked nervously.
"Hm, Oracle Heights right? This is it, get off." Chris read the name that was boldly written in front of the building's entrance.
"Purpose of visit?" The security guard stopped Chris's bike and examined them from top to bottom.
"Meeting Mr.Gerald," Chris looked back at the security guard and gave his real-estate broker's name.
"Ohh, so you are the one that Mr.Gerald asked about. You are pretty young." The security guard remembered Gerald's instruction that someone will come to check the properties, but he didn't think they will be so young.
"We have some work here and need a good place to rest for a couple of months," Chris spoke in a bit haughty way, acting like he was a big shot from another city.
"O-Of course, young master." The security guard quickly caught the subtle hint and tried to butter up to the rich guy.
"Hm, Where is Mr.Gerald?" pleased by the current respect he was getting, Chris kept up the act and asked the security guard.
"Sir, he is waiting for you in the waiting room." the security guard explained hurriedly, afraid of wasting the young master's time.
Chris parked the bike in the parking and walked behind the guard while Cathy walked beside Chris, giving him weird looks in between, wondering why he was pretending to be a young master.
Soon after walking for a minute or two, they entered a cozy hall with many couches placed to accommodate the guests.
"Ahh, you must be Christopher Swarts..."
