Chapter 18: Cornelia Is Happy To Help

Chapter 18: Cornelia Is Happy To Help

Indeed, Dekan needed a cannon fodder to test out the rules of the game.

Thus, Dekan and Cornelia manhandled the demon student from either side and forced him to enter the classroom at the end of the hallway.

It was as if they were guards transporting a death row prisoner to the gallows.

The two of them pushed open the artistic sculpture-like entrance gate.

An artistic and gorgeous scenery immediately filled their vision.

Compared to a cooking classroom or a kitchen, this room resembled more like a banquet hall. It was decorated in a very similar style to the hallway outside. It was like an invitation to a banquet.

The flames from the silver candleholders and sparkling hanging lamps glistened with a warm and soft glow.

The sculptures on the wall appeared so very gorgeous. A majestic baroque table was placed in the center of the room.

“Welcome to the Cooking Class. I am your teacher, Baron Bacher. I sincerely invite you all to partake in my banquet!”

A low voice sounded in the classroom. Following the voice, the entrance shut with a loud bang.

Banquet?

The Demon Academy has a banquet as a class?

Dekan’s gaze turned toward the direction of the voice.

A sly-looking male demon stood at the end of the classroom. He was donned in a gorgeous white tie attire.

He bowed gracefully toward the three guests before turning his wrist to face his palm upward. He pointed to the carved oaken chairs surrounding the table to hint for the three guests to take seats.

He gave off a slight air of a teacher.

Although this teacher’s words and actions were very friendly, Dekan knew that they were all a pretense.

The reason for that was because Baron Bacher did not conceal the murderous desire in his eyes in the slightest.

The demon student captured by Cornelia was already shivering in fear. He instinctively felt fear toward Baron Bacher.

Instructed by Dekan, Cornelia proceeded toward the left side of the dining table and forced the demon student to take a seat before seating herself.

As for Dekan, he seated himself on the right side, directly across from Cornelia.

Seeing the three students had taken their seats, Baron Bacher revealed a satisfied smile.

He turned around and walked to the rear of the classroom. Soon, he slowly pushed out a small silver dining cart.

Three dishes covered by silver plate covers were present on the cart.

“Today’s lesson is: Culinary Review.”

“I’ve prepared your dishes already. I hope that they will satisfy you all.”

Like a butler, Baron Bacher pushed the dining cart to the side of the long table. Then, he lifted up one of the three dishes.

“But…”

Baron Bacher’s tone changed. His voice turned high-pitched like a prideful and unhinged artist.

“After enjoying your evening meal, you are required to answer to me what food ingredients and seasoning are used in the meal.”

“That is the exam question for today’s class.”

“Outstanding cooks are able to resonate with the gourmets.”

“If you are able to answer 80% or more correctly, you are qualified to be my honored guest. It will also mean that you’re an outstanding student of the Cooking Class.”

“However, if your answer is a total mess, you will end up breaking my heart.”

“At that time, I will have no choice but to give you your corresponding punishment…”

As his words reached this point, Baron Bacher was no longer able to contain the smile on his face.

He was openly displaying his murderous desire.

“......”

Dekan felt like giving him two resounding slaps to the face just by hearing him speak!

He had no interest in hearing Baron Bacher openly revealing his malicious intent.

If it wasn’t for the fact that they were currently no match for this Baron Bacher, Dekan would’ve called for Cornelia to beat him up.

“Well then, who among the three of you wants to be first?”

Baron Bacher swept his gaze across the three students seated before the dining table. He had a sinister smile on his face.

Silence filled the entire classroom.

After experiencing the exam room, even Cornelia realized that the games played by these demons were all fatally dangerous…

This was no joyous candle-lit dinner. Instead, it was a slaughter feast!

The silence continued for a couple seconds.

“Is there no volunteer? If that’s the case, I’ll be choosing one of you.”

Baron Bacher seemed to be feeling annoyed as he spoke with a slight frown.

Right after his words left his mouth…

The demon student beside Cornelia slowly raised his hand.

This completely delighted Baron Bacher.

However, the demon student’s eyes were wide open. He looked at Cornelia with utter disbelief.

Doubt toward his life filled his eyes.

Cornelia had grabbed his elbow and forcibly raised his hand!

Cold sweat filled his forehead as he turned to Baron Bacher.

Baron Bacher’s gaze was already fixed on him.

His death was practically set in stone.

Soon, the demon student looked at Dekan who was seated across from him.

With grief and indignation, he was determined to understand the reason behind his death.

Although the girl beside me is terrifying, her conscience isn’t that evil.

It must be that wicked man across from me that’s giving her orders!

Dekan shifted his gaze away from the demon student and pouted his mouth to fake whistle.

Indeed, he gave instructions to Cornelia with his gaze. He repeatedly signaled to Cornelia the demon student’s elbow and Cornelia soon realized his intentions.

Bastard, it was you! I knew it!

The demon student cursed in his heart.

Pain and grief filled his heart. Unfortunately, he was helpless to do anything. All that remained of him was fear.

“Well then, let’s begin!”

Baron Bacher was gratified toward the volunteer. He quickly walked over to that demon student.

He placed a plate before the demon student and lifted up the cover to reveal the dish beneath.

It was a braised meat dish brimming with a melon, lemon and some smoky fragrance. Together with it was a smidgen of vegetables.

“Come, enjoy your meal.”

Baron Bacher took two steps back to provide a cozy space for the demon student.

The demon student raised his knife and fork with shivering hands. He cut the meat extremely thin. Then, he picked it up with his fork and slowly brought it toward his mouth.

However, the closer the meat was to his mouth, the more his hand started to shiver. It seemed as if he was unable to bring the food to his mouth.

Surprisingly, Baron Bacher did not urge him in the slightest.

Baron Bacher seemed to be taking great pleasure in observing the appearance of that demon student.

Just like this, the demon student continued to delay. From time to time, he would even glance at Baron Bacher.

After a period of fifteen minutes, he had only eaten a bit over half of the small, exquisite and luxurious plate of food.

“Well then, it’s time for you to answer.”

Baron Bacher spoke with a smile. It was as if he had plucked the death timer of the demon student.

“......”

“There… there’s onion, radish, bay leaf, thyme, red wine, black pepper…”

The demon student answered while shivering.

With enormous pain, he recalled the flavor from before.

But the flavor was too complicated!

Every single bite was so utterly delicious.

But this meal would not bring about any sort of happiness at all. All it presented was endless despair and fear.

It seemed as if that was what Baron Bacher truly desired to taste.

In the end, the demon student began to blindly guess ingredients. But the more he guessed, the more he knew that his answer swayed far from correct.

Baron Bacher’s smile grew more and more wanton. His lips were raised to a terrifying curve.

“Oh what a pity, you’ve only answered 37% correctly. You are not a true gourmet.”

A gleeful judgment was delivered in this classroom.

Once the score was given, Baron Bacher’s neck suddenly stretched forth.

Like a wrapper, his skin easily ripped away to expose the green scales beneath. It was as if he had transformed back into a monster.

This well-dressed baron began to sway his long strange neck back and forth. With that terrifying face and an equally terrifying smile, he stared at the ashen demon student.

Finally, it seemed like Baron Bacher finished enjoying the demon student’s despair.

His head grew much larger in size and his giant mouth opened wide. Like a flash, it moved toward the demon student and swallowed him.

One bite!

He swallowed the demon student in one bite!

That demon student was unable to resist at all.

“Crackle, crackle.”

Appreciative, Baron Bacher chewed a couple times before swallowing his meal.

After the exceptional feast, Baron Bacher seemed to be in an extremely happy mood. His eyes were rolled toward his head and revealed a bit of his whites. As he laughed, his neck started to shrink.

He had declared it from the very start…

…that this was his banquet.

……

Although Cornelia had a poker face while Baron Bacher was enjoying his delightful dinner, she couldn’t help but be worried.

She was mostly certain that she would not be a match for Baron Bacher. She pondered if they would be able to take down Baron Bacher if they failed to properly taste the ingredients in the dishes.

She looked at Dekan.

Their line of sight crosses.

She discovered that Dekan’s expression remained the same. He was leaning on the chair with a confident look.

Seeing that, Cornelia eased her heart.

She was certain that Dekan had a plan.
