Chapter 201 - Precious And Fragile
Chapter 201 - Precious And Fragile
The awkward and sheepish smile on Baron MacIntyre's face proved that what Yvonne had just said was the truth.
Rutherford was astonished to see that the predictions that his little girl had made were in fact the truth and he had done the right thing by deciding to follow her instructions.
Marquess Samed on the other hand was confused and slightly impressed when he heard their conversation.
"Why would Baron accept even if the price was inflated much higher than this?" He questioned as he could not keep his curiosity under wraps.
'Always needs to know everything.' Yvonne shook her head at this tutor of hers who could never control his gossiping nature.
Baron MacIntyre was in a hurry to finish his work here and leave this place as his presence was needed elsewhere but at the same time, he did not wish to refuse the Marquess whom he desired to curry favor with.
Hence, he was left with no choice but to explain to the man why he would agree to this agreement even if it meant he would have to bear some losses.
"This is because of the Royal Princess." He mentioned the young child who was the apple of the King's eye.
Confused as he was, Sullivan sat in silence as he prepared to hear the narration which the Baron was about to give.
"You may not know this but Princess Felicia had requested His Majesty to serve my cafe's treats for her coming birthday celebration." He informed the people he was sitting with.
"We know." The three others in the room answered in unison without hesitation.
'Glennise Brodie has a big mouth.' Yvonne blamed the other child for spilling the beans about this matter.
'Vonna was so kind to let me know about this.' The Earl beamed at his lovely child.
'I work in the Palace so I know these things.' Marquess Samed was the least surprised.
He would often reprimand the girls for discussing their interests during class hours.
One of which was Glennise Brodie explaining to the Princess that she was missing out on the desserts made by this one particular chef, the one who worked at the Baron's cafe.
Therefore, he was aware of the planning for the birthday celebration and also about the Princess's demand.
Baron MacIntyre felt a tad bit embarrassed when everyone knew about this information and he had yet to bring something of value to the table.
Carrying on with the narration, he was sure that this would be news to them.
"The Royal Steward had asked me to send a few desserts as samples for the Princess to taste and decide whether she liked them and wished to have them served at her celebration." He narrated and was proud that his cafe was chosen for this.
Sadly, he did not notice any surprise on their faces which meant that they knew about this as well.
"Very well!" He huffed and was irked that everyone knew about his business when he was thinking that he had held it a well-kept secret.
'Blame the kids with the big mouths.' The little girl shrugged her shoulders even when she was also one on the list of big-mouthed kids who overshared.
This information was after all given to the other two elders by Yvonne when she was explaining the situation to them at separate times.
She had revealed these to her father last evening and during class today she did the same to Marquess Samed.
Having left with no options, Baron MacIntyre continued with his story.
"Royal Steward arrived at home this morning bearing news from the Palace." He divulged the matters of this morning.
'Now that is something I do not know.' She gazed at him with curiosity brimming in her eyes.
Seeing the looks of anticipation on their faces as they waited for him to move on with his narration, the man with the protruding stomach was finally pleased.
'Of course, they wouldn't know about the things that ensued in my house.' He grinned as he had the upper hand for once in this conversation.
Marquess Samed had also not heard of this matter as the only news he heard at the Palace today was Yvonne's involvement.
'Steward did not let me in on the trip he took to the MacIntyre estate.' He sulked, forgetting that the man who served the King had no reason to tell him anything.
Though Yvonne knew what the answer from the Palace might be, she was still waiting to hear what had truly happened between the two men.
Given the chance to brag about something they did not know, he took in a deep breath and prepared himself.
"When I woke up this morning, the Royal Steward was already in my house." He began his version of the events that took place this morning.
___
When Baron MacIntyre was woken up earlier than he usually would, especially after a long night of drinking, he was furious at their impudence.
Just as he was about to lash out at his wife and his trusted Butler who should have known better than to disturb his resting time, he heard the shocking news.
"The Royal Steward is here, Lord." His wife's words put a stop to his furious ones.
This simple statement made the plump man move at a faster pace as he shot through the room and into the bathroom to begin his day.
Washing up in a haphazard way, he threw on the clothes that his butler had kept ready on the dresser before fixing his hair.
No sooner had he completed taking a proper look at himself in the mirror did he and his butler rush to the room where the Royal Steward waited for his arrival.
The man who had come over this early in the morning was someone who ran all the errands of the King of this land.
So the reverence and respect he received were just like that of any other official in the King's court.
After all, though he was just a steward to the King, he too was a noble like the rest of them.
The Royal Steward belonged to a family of nobles who had dedicated themselves to serve the Kings that sat on the throne of the Rosenhyde Kingdom.
If ever, the Steward decided to leave his post which was highly unlikely, he still had a small fief to fall back on and use as his sustenance.
However, the Steward was not one to ever dishonor his duty to return to the fief which was now run by his younger brothers and was a home to the rest of his family.
As the Baron and his Butler entered the room, they bowed in greeting to the man who always stood behind the King and did everything that was told.
The only reason why he would be here was if he had been sent by the King on some task.
"His Majesty, King Ophire would like to meet the Baron in regard to the service he might have to provide for the Royal Princess' birthday celebration." Royal Steward revealed as he rose to his feet.
He then handed the summons to the Butler who in turn gave it to his master, the Baron.
Baron MacIntyre held the scroll in both hands as if it was something precious and fragile.
