Chapter 459 459: Te Boreas: The Wolf War III
They had claimed the gate and much of the main Street for at least 50 blocks. They would have to go through a couple of other districts as the Craftsman and Adventuring guild had deployed a significant amount of people. But Cole had gained ground, which was just as well because as parts of the city entrance lay in ruble and other aflame, the generals led their troops through the gate, long after Cole and his wolves were done with their hunt.
Cole was standing on a half destroyed roof as Lyren ran around in his puppy like form. He was trying to figure out a plan of attack, he was waiting for a bit of information from his own eyes and ears in the city, it would be foolish to move ahead without understanding the deployment of soldiers in the city, the wolves could still go but energy is finite, they needed rest and above all needed to avoid fights that would exhaust them before they get where they're going.
"Forgive me Lord Cole, but the generals are requesting to meet with you." Aiteen said as she made her way to the top of the roof, though given how precarious the structure looked, she was careful about where she was stepping on.
"What do they want?" Cole asked as he tried to pay attention to the bond. There were Raens all over the city, not that there was a lot of them, but given the scope of the city, he only needs one Raen per district. Te Boreas has a total of 687 districts, with each district having at least 10 blocks worth of infrastructure.
Obviously even the Adventurer's and the Craftsman would not be able to field. Enough soldiers to cover the entirety of the district. Perhaps what they would be doing now is protecting their main assets, and trying their beast to ensure that no one gets through to the palace. The king might be dead, but no one knows that and it is that lack of knowledge that is keeping civilians and the soldiers contained, they were all just waiting to react.
"Well the whisper in the air says they would like to take command from you. " Cole raised an eyebrow at that, he was really not in the mood for politics. Cole nodded to Aiteen as he said to her. "Bring them here."
It wasn't long until six generals were standing with him on the roof of a half destroyed building. Very much like Aiteen they paid attention to the uneven terrain they were on, even if there was no chance of them getting injured should it give way, none of them still felt particularly safe having a conversation on top of this roof.
"my wolves tell me that you want to assume command…is that true?" Cole spoke in a drawl, almost lazily as he split his focus between the information he was being fed by the other Raens, and the presence of these generals.
The generals looked amongst themselves, it was as if everything they had planned to say, or who was supposed to say it had lost their nerve. It was hard to blame them though, Cole gave off a rather terrifying and sinister aura, especially when he is so single mindedly on spilling as much of his enemy's blood as possible and saving his ally.
"You have done well commander Cole in leading the charge and breaking through the blockade and getting through the gates. There would be a lot of merits to be gained, especially one the king has been rescued.
We have ensured that the rear line is protected and have cut off any supply lines to the pockets of resistance that are trying and failing futilely to stop the advance of his Majesty's army. We would like to invite you to the general's tent so that we can discuss our plans going forwards, we need to know what you are… err what we are going to do next. "
Cole raised an eyebrow, these guys were not afraid of him. He did not blame them though, they had the power to be that way, the strongest amongst them had 3 stats in the diamond rank, and the rest of them in the Titanium rank, leaving him at the same strength as the King of not above him.
"Sorry maybe later, I'm busy now." As soon as he finished saying that, Cole bent down picked up Lyren then leaped over the side of the building, much to the shocked look on the face of the general. Cole didn't have time to play games, if not for anything but for the sheer fact that he was allies with the king.
And part of that alliance meant that in times like this Cole was honor bound to go to the aid of his ally. So this was a rather delicate diplomatic issue that he was not ready or willing to allow those pompous self serving spineless cowards of generals to fuck with. The army would need to have it's leadership reevaluated once this is all over.
Cole landed in the street without a sound, Lyren scrambled up to his shoulder as Aiteen cake over with her Animech. Cole got behind her as the giant mechanical black wolf shot forwards, it's speeds breaking the sound barrier as they moved on to the next battlefield, under the baffled gazes of the six generals.
*Cri-cri-cra!-crash!*
"FUCK!"
The roof gave way under the generals as they all fell with a loud crash into the building below, much to the shock and amusement of their own subordinates. As for Cole, he was coming up with a plan, it seemed the guilds had only fielded armies in the districts that led directly to the palace and surrounded it
Which meant his options would be to go straight ahead clashing with the guilds as he went. Or use a circular route and clash with them once they've gotten close enough to the palace. But there would be more of them in that location which means they would have reinforcements. And that can end up with his people getting flanked, even with their mobility they would not be able to cut a path through without consequence…Cole needed to figure out a way to ensure his company's stamina on the battlefield or a way to distract the enemies long enough to take out their leaders and save the king.
He turned around to see the army shrinking in the distance as he muttered to himself. "Guess they might end up being useful after all."
