Chapter 71: The Playground (2)

Chapter 71: The Playground (2)

"Back to the main topic, ladies and gentlemen! The name everyone wants to know is spelled A-L-E-R-O-N. Aleron Rivenal!"

"And he will be coming to the Playground, in the flesh!"

"Book your tickets and grab your popcorn! We are going past the horizon tonight with the first-time opening of the Dread-mode series!"

After this last piece was broadcast, the entire city had an uproar in many places as the public was thrilled! It could be felt throughout the city!

"Holy shit, I completely forgot about the Dread-mode difficulty!"

"Same!"

"Damn, so we'll finally see the Dread mode series."

"Fuck, I have to book the tickets!"

"It's gonna be packed as fuck tonight."

"Boys, our plan tonight has changed. We gonna go to our special hill spot and watch the show with food and beer, hahaha!"

...

After finishing the broadcast, Ben Frell flew down and entered an office room. Despite being fat and looking jolly, the perceived ones could feel a hint of intimidation and shrewdness beneath the butter.

"Oi, am I really going to do this? I'm scared shitless, Marcus," Ben pulled a long face as he walked towards the couch and sat relaxed on it.

A middle-aged man in a dark blue suit sat at a table nearby, wearing a pair of transparent specs and oozing out a Legendary-rank aura.

Marcus Zural, the manager of the Playground.

"You can back out if you want to," Marcus rimmed up as he plainly said.

"Back out? Humph. Who else will do this aside from me?" Ben snorted before sighing. "So, when is he coming?"

"Half an hour later."

"Alright. Also, I did announce that the Dread-mode series will open, but will it really open?" Ben wryly asked. "Mr. Melkern tried and also failed, and although Mr. Aleron is clearly more powerful, we don't have the guarantee, right?"

Ben added, "We should have checked that first before announcing this piece."

"Mr. Melkern himself told me to announce this, so it should be fine."

...

Spatial Adventure Cube-an item with a sort of technology that wasn't available in this Ardentia world.

This Cube had the power to send a person's consciousness to strange, small dimensions with different difficulties - A virtual reality.

This cube was the crux that ran the Playground.

People all over the continent would arrive here to become players and participate in the daily Playground challenges.

Spatial Adventure Cube had 5 difficulties to choose from-Easy, Normal, Hard, Challenging, and Hell.

The rewards arranged were not as important to many because the main fun was those strange dimensions, the playgrounds as people called them.

Once entered inside a playground, the players would get certain tasks to complete while surviving within the time limit.

The cube had the function of streaming players' movements and actions, including the voices to a screen projected from it, which would be further broadcast by the staff of the Playground all over the city.

However, the people in the Colosseum could wear special black goggles distributed by the staff and feel as if they were inside the playground, watching and following players.

They could enjoy a hyper-realistic show of the player surviving and completing tasks.

Of course, those special black goggles were crafted here, but their technology was found through the Spatial Adventure Cube as well.

"So that's the playground, eh? Sounds fun," Aleron said with a grin as Rias finished telling everyone about the playground.

Rias chuckled and said, "It's more fun experiencing it."

"People can experience another world, fight, and have a challenging adventure without worrying about dying," Roxen wryly smiled. "This is both good and bad. Good for training if used moderately, and bad if you constantly go in and lose your sense of danger."

"You sound like it happened to people, eh?"

"Mhm," Roxen nodded. "The previous champion of Playground, who has a record of completing all playgrounds up to hard difficulty with the best timing."

"Poor guy," Rias wryly smiled. "He was a rather talented person, a promising student of Lightdusk Academy twenty years ago. However, he got addicted to the Playground and also became famous all over the continent."

Aleron was surprised, "What happened to him?"

"He almost died when he went into the Darkalant labyrinth after a long time. After further tests, it became clear that he lost the sense of danger due to his unrestrained and reckless way of playing in the playgrounds where he died and revived many times."

Roxen continued, "He could play recklessly and boldly in the playgrounds, but doing the same instinctively in the labyrinth almost got him killed."

"Ouch," Aleron weakly smiled. "This shouldn't have happened if he also went to the labyrinth regularly."

"True," Rias nodded. "This guy got mentally scarred afterward and quit being an adventurer.

||

Aleron was dumbfounded, "How long did he play in the playgrounds?"

"Two years and he started living nearby for it. Since the Cube produces new and exotic playgrounds, it's always fun."

Roxen smiled and said, "Everyone should finally witness the Dread-mode difficulty today since you should be able to complete the entry requirement. Nobody has ever managed to

open it yet."

...

The group continued towards the Playground while walking leisurely and finally arrived there half an hour later.

James Malkern met up with them and led them to a different entry passage into the stadium since the public was already arriving to sit inside. It was about to begin after half an hour.

A few pairs of eyes following them also reported their arrival to the Playground. "So he is here," Ben stood up and took a deep breath before putting on his jolly smile.

"Perfect," Marcus gave a thumbs up with a smile. "Don't hold back against him."

"Fuck you," Ben rolled his eyes and left.

Soon he arrived at gate no.3 of the stadium and saw a group walking inside.

Looking at the forefront of the group, he saw a white-haired young man mixed with a bit of

black hair.

'Aleron Rivenal,' Ben thought, feeling slightly overwhelmed and fearful, especially because of the task handed over to him.

'Am I really going to provoke this guy and live to see the sun the next day?' Ben sighed as he looked up. The sun had set with only a bit of glimmer visible on the horizon.
