Chapter 21 Boss (1)
Just like Jake thought, Louise also had her own circumstances to playing Dungeon Masters Online. While she wasn't a game enthusiast, she found something inside the game that she didn't have much in reality.
Her story started in her last year of high school. At that point in time, she was discovered by a certain agent of a model's magazine. He was ten years older, but he was exactly the type of guy Louise liked. Tall, buffed, easy-going personality and a very sweet smile on his face. He invited her to do some jobs as a model, but she wasn't interested in it. She was interested in him. However, the guy wasn't from France, and he returned to America after a while. In the end, Louise was so in love that she decided on her career path so that she could get closer to him again. For four years, she studied hard and exchanged messages with him on a day-to-day basis, and then eventually, she became a high-school teacher in America when she became twenty-three.
Once they reunited, their relationship started. At first, things were great for them, even though her boyfriend had to leave the town pretty often due to his job. Eventually, they even began to prepare for marriage, but then Louise noticed that things began to look weird around her. She began to feel like she was being watched by someone, and she even noticed that her neighbors were talking behind her back. Since she was teaching French in an elementary school, she didn't notice anything at first, but after a while. Another teacher informed her that she had appeared in a magazine… as the second lover of her boyfriend. Apparently, he had quite the fame as a womanizer in his line of work. However, he still managed to find another girl around Louise's age, who was rising in the models' world, to become his wife.
Louise didn't believe in all that, but then when she confronted her boyfriend, he avoided the question and then disappeared. Louise was astonished. The love of her life lied to her for years, and over the next months, he even worked to change the rumors in those gossip magazines, and from a second lover, Louise became known as the teacher stalker who was desperately trying to become a model.
At first, she endured everything, even when her friends and neighbors left her behind and began to gossip about her. Still, then when the parents of students started to complain to the principal of the school that someone like her was a bad influence on their kids, she cracked.
For several weeks, Louise barely had the strength to do anything. She stayed locked in her room and only opened it when her food was delivered. While the principal of the school didn't actually fire her, not going to school after several weeks, it became obvious her fate. Louise came to America full of dreams, simple dreams if compared to the majority, but dreams nonetheless, but then she started to consider going back home and starting from scratch.
It was around that time that Louise received the package of Dungeon Masters Online. At first, she thought that it was a mistake, but then she noticed that everything was in her name. It seemed that she had been selected for some reason… While she had no intention of diving into a game to forget reality, some words that she found in the game manual attracted her: be whoever you want and don't be afraid of showing who you truly are while you go on a fantastic adventure.
Those words echoed in Louise's head, not to mention the possibility of earning money also was attractive. She needed money to go back to her home country and start anew, after all.
In the end, Louise was surprised since she found people of all ages inside the game. The most young ones paid a lot of attention due to their appearance. Even though she didn't look exactly healthy after staying in her apartment for several weeks, she still was a beauty. Louise tried to learn the basics of the game by herself, but then she found Lana, who seemed pretty enthusiastic about playing and becoming friends with her.
Louise, who was already twenty-six, found in Lana, the figure of a little sister that she never had before. Everything she said and did make Lana's eyes spark. It seemed that she had become a figure of admiration for someone she had just met. That kind of feeling was new, so she hesitated about talking of her personal life, even though Lana pretty much revealed all about her.
Soon enough, they went on a mission, and then Louise discovered that she had a weird skill inside the game. She could steal the mana of the enemies' spells and then use it to enhance her spells or even use them without using her mana.
Despite that, the first ended more or less in a failure since Lana and Louise couldn't damage the fire slimes without damaging themselves as well. Still, Louise felt like that day had been one of the most truly fun days of her life. The next day, she met Lana again, and then she heard about her plans for the day. She wanted to form a party with the guy that taught her the basics. While Lana said that he was a weirdo who didn't have many redeeming qualities, she also said that he was a guy who didn't care about others all that much. So, he certainly wouldn't bother them like the players during their first mission.
Just as Lana had depicted, Louise found Jake. That was another weird thing. His real name wasn't Jake. It was Judas. He was also pretty rude, but despite the fact that he couldn't care less about others and the fact that he had a weird hobby, he still was able to see through her smile. The smile that she trained for quite a while to show to her students no matter how troubled she felt deep down. Jake knew immediately that Louise was someone who had many problems in her life. Still, he also couldn't care less about. Meeting someone who didn't have any interest in her for her appearance or due to the circumstances felt strangely refreshing. Despite all that, Louise felt that Jake was also the same, and thus they could become good friends.
