Chapter 29 Progress (1)
When the monster turned around to face Jake, it exposed its back for Lana and Louise. While they had the chance to attack freely, Louise couldn't steal the mana from the enemy's attacks… she learned that she could only do so, when she sees the attack of the target. Without any other choice, they changed their positions. Weirdly enough, Lana could heal Jake even when she couldn't see him, but he had to be in a certain range, but that range was increasing as the skill levels up.
Jake focused on defense while the girls were fixing their positions, but despite that, the big slime still could cause a lot more damage than he could recover without potions. In a fit of rage caused by the constant pain, Jake decided to attack furiously while focusing on speed to make sure that Lesser Vampirism would heal him faster. While that worked, the damage he was causing was too meager and his stamina was decreasing pretty fast.
Jake already could see some parts of his gear melting… their durability were reaching dangerous levels. Once they reach zero, not even the NPCs would be able to repair, while all that was cheap stuff, Jake didn't want to lose it. Nevertheless, in the next moment, Louise used that extra powerful Ice Arrow and then froze another part of the creature. Jake had been waiting for that. Instead of attacking like usual, he did the same thing as before, he hit the frozen area with his sword enhanced by Bash and when he made contact, he used Mana Blade.
The boss grunted in pain, but things didn't end there. After using another mana potion, Jake used several Mana Blades on the monster before the creature could shrink in size to repair itself. Eventually, one of the Mana Blades hit the core of the creature, making it crack and the health of the monster reached zero.
You obtained 500 coins.
Congratulations! The skill Mana Blade has leveled up.
Congratulations! The skill Fire Resistance has leveled up.
Congratulations! The skill Swordsmanship has leveled up.
Congratulations! The skill Hyper Body has leveled up.
Congratulations! The class Squire has leveled up.
Jake sighed in relief as he watched the slime melting. The temperature was finally decreasing as well, but he still was feeling like crap. Still, it was probably because of that he also felt pretty good, after all, he defeated a troublesome monster… not alone, but he defeated nonetheless. Not to mention, the monster even dropped a weapon… a red crossbow.
"Why not a flame sword?" Jake asked and then sighed.
"Phew… we did it," Lana said.
"That was quite intense… I never thought I would feel this way inside a game," Louise said with a smile on her face.
Crossbow of Flames
At the cost of ten points of mana, it grants you the power to fire a bolt that will burn the target for five seconds, causing damage of half of your intelligence per second.
Dexterity + 05 (0%), master this weapon to obtain the status points permanently.
Durability: 12/12
The cost to use the weapon was pretty high, but its effect also seemed pretty good, it would be a pretty awesome weapon in the hands of a magic archer, but they didn't have such a person in the group. Nevertheless, those five points in dexterity were too good to abandon.
You have completed the mission, teleporting your party back to the town now…
"Wait… that crystal…" Jake said and then he noticed before being teleported that the crystal now had a barrier around it.
Jake frowned when the game forced him to return to the town without asking his opinion. Nevertheless, he soon forgot about that in the next moment.
You obtained 1000 coins.
Your fame has increased by one hundred points.
You unlocked the new area: Hellish Desert.
Congratulations! You have become a Level one Gladiator!
Your strength and health will increase by four points, and your stamina, mana, endurance, and willpower will increase by two points whenever you level up your class.
Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Stamina Boost.
Effect: It passively increases your stamina by Five points per level
You obtained 01 status point.
Just one skill… while that was disappointing, the fact that the Gladiator class granted him two times more status points kind of made up for it. Still, Jake wondered if the girls also would obtain that kind of class… it would be useless for them.
"What class did you two get?" Jake asked.
"Priest," Lana replied.
"Sage," Louise replied.
Three different classes… while it was weird, Jake understood that it was due to their choice of weapons, gear, and even first-class obtained. The game had many complex mechanics, but it wouldn't try to screw up players by giving a mage a melee class.
"Let's celebrate our victory!" Lana said, visibly excited.
"Celebrate, you say…" Louise said with a nervous smile. "Like going out for ice cream or something?"
"Wow… you are so adult, but you can say that kind of childish thing…" Lana frowned. "Let's go to a bar and let loose."
"You want to kill the few neurons that you still have? I am impressed…" Jake said while rubbing his chin. "Anyway, I will pass since I live in Japan. If you guys think of visiting, I will treat you with ramen or something."
"Still spouting that nonsense?" Lana asked. "You should try to make a better made-up story. All right then… let's go for a girl's night, Louise!"
"Sure…" Louise said with the same awkward smile.
Lana and Louise marked to meet up somewhere and then they left. It was only three in the afternoon in the real world, so Jake had more than enough time to check the new area. Still, he decided to log off as well since the previous mission had been pretty intense. Dungeon Masters Online was pretty fun, but it was also tiresome… he decided to buy some things that his home needed and then spend the rest of the day lazing around.
