Chapter 362 Not So Bad
Jake looked in that direction… some mountains were supposed to be there, but he couldn't see anything. That was probably the doing of the barrier… in any case, they began to move toward it, and then they eventually readied their guards when they felt the barrier ahead. Once they crossed it… they found an endless sea of enemies around the largest mountain in the area…
For a moment, everyone got paralyzed… even Jake. The area of the barrier was thirty kilometers of radius… while not all the ground was covered by enemies inside the barrier due to the mountain, countless flying monsters were around there to make up for those numbers… Jake's low estimative was that they could see half a million enemies there. They were outnumbered one to one hundred…
The whole group only woke up when a sear of fireballs was fired and flew toward them in a wide arc. Around the same time, several lines of ice trolls and ice golems began to march toward them… the enemies were finally using some basic battle formations.
"Long-ranged fighters! Aim at the fireballs!" Jake shouted and then grabbed Frederick by his collar. "Do your damn job and lead your men, dumbass."
Frederick slapped Jake's hands away and then recovered his composure. Then he raised his right arm and gave the back line the order to fire. They didn't have enough numbers to split the groups into several battalions, so arrows and magic projectiles flew together to intercept them.
"Let's go and remember, focus only on dealing with the enemies nearby, and don't move too far away from me," Jake declared.
Frederick, Milena, and Helena's parties were busy leading the back line, they needed some commands after that huge shock, so it couldn't be helped. That being said, that put Jake's party in a bad spot since someone had to stop the front lines from approaching and no one could offer them support.
"Buff me with your magic for a moment," Arilene said.
"But you said before that you didn't need it," Lana said.
"Well, I need now with so many enemies in front of us…" Arilene said.
Lana and the others thought that Arilene's power couldn't be influenced and the strength of her ghosts was the same as they were in life… but it seemed that her magic power actually influenced their power… Once Lana used Odin's Blessing on her, Arilene quickly summoned ten ghost archers. That was a personal record for her, but it didn't matter… for the next three seconds, the archers fired their arrows until Arilene fell forward, but Jake was there to catch her.
"Geez… you can't just take your one hundred and then collapse soon after," Jake said as he watched the ice trolls falling with arrows pierced deep in their skulls.
"Just give me… thirty seconds," Arilene said.
"You will have more than that," Jake said. "Julian, Karina, watch the sides and stop the monsters. Lana and Louise offer them your support. You can leave the front to me…"
Jake smirked and then assumed the long point guard… it was one of the stances that he used the most against the giants. While he couldn't call himself a master while using that, it was one of the best ways he could use his full power and attack fast enough.
When the first troll approached him and swung its massive club, Jake just took a single step forward while he raised and then swung down his sword… he did that faster than the enemy could finish half of its motion and then cut down the enemy up to the middle of its torso.
"No coins here either… the target is truly influencing the power of the system," Jake thought while he selected his next target.
Jake saw himself in a bind when two ice trolls moved to attack him from both sides. Even if he could outspeed one with simple moves, he couldn't outspeed two if they moved at the same time and from different directions.
Still, one kunai flew into the face of one on the right and blinded the beast for a moment. Jake used that chance to kill the one on the left side and then saw Karina finishing off the other.
"That was appreciated, but if you have room to leave your position, then take the ice clubs to where Louise is," Jake said.
"What for?" Karina asked.
"You will soon see…" Jake said.
Jake didn't take many steps onward since he didn't want to make his party be lost in the enemy's lines while Frederick and the others were busy. Still, thanks to that, Jake had some time to save and gather energy on his sword without spending too much of it.
Eventually, Louise, who helped Karina and Julian with her lightning bolts, saw a pile of ice clubs in front of her, and then she proceeded to drain the mana inside them. It was said that the stronger the troll, the larger the ice club. They even grow alongside them during their lives, and while they lose their powers when their owners die, it isn't such an instant process…
When the second group of enemies was defeated, the sky was filled with fireballs flying toward Jake's group, but before they could reach them… a thundercloud appeared in the area, and then a powerful cold rain began to fall and extinguished the flames, but that was just the start…
When all the enemies around were wet, lightning bolts began to fall like rain on the battlefield, and their powerful and ear-shattering sounds made most of the enemies stop on their feet. When one struck the ground, dozens of enemies would be hit, and at least half of them would turn into charcoal due to the direct hit…
After not so long, Louise also got dizzy and then almost fell to the ground, but Lana caught her.
"... Thank you," Louise forced a smile.
"Why the disappointed expression?" Lana asked. "You truly have a bad taste when it comes to men, huh…"
"What about you?" Louise asked.
"I am the little sister, remember?" Lana smiled as well. "That isn't actually so bad."
