Chapter 76
Chapter 76 - Panacea
###ip###
Lan Qingqing was just about to speak when she was seized by another coughing fit. This time, a trace of blood followed her cough.
“Qingqing,” a middle-aged man in a suit said, his face contorted with distress at the sight.
“Dad, I'm okay,” Lan Qingqing managed to say with a weak smile, though her complexion was ashen.
“If you had stayed at home, you wouldn't be in this condition,” the middle-aged woman said as she offered a cup of hot water.
“Mom, Ye Hao wouldn't deceive me,” Lan Qingqing murmured, washing her hands gently.
“The Way of Nature's followers are shrouded in secrecy. They never mingle with ordinary people. Ye Hao is merely a student; it's improbable that he has any connections with them,” the woman said gravely.
“Given Qingqing's current health, there's no longer a need for her to convalesce in a hospital,” Lan Zhongtian said, shaking his head lightly. “I've brought Qingqing here to meet Hwa Xu.”
“Have you scheduled an appointment with Hwa Xu?”
“Yes.”
Hwa Xu enjoys a stellar reputation both domestically and internationally. Every day, countless individuals seek appointments, but only those of considerable standing secure a slot.
“I do hope Hwa Xu can heal Qingqing's condition,” the noblewoman remarked, though her heart wasn't brimming with optimism.
Hwa Xu had previously stated that Qingqing's illness was a formidable challenge to treat.
Even with Hwa Xu's exceptional medical expertise, he could only offer temporary relief. Her condition was beyond the help of Western pharmaceuticals.
Yet, Lan Qingqing never made it to the Scarlet Raven Hotel. She lost consciousness as soon as she disembarked from the private jet and was rushed to Summit Hospital.
That's because Hwa Xu was there.
Two hours had passed before Ye Hao received the news.
Upon his arrival at the hospital, he was greeted by the sight of Qingqing's pallid face.
At that moment, Lan Qingqing, on oxygen support, looked up and offered a faint smile upon seeing Ye Hao.
“You must be Ye Hao,” Lan Zhongtian said in a soft tone.
“Yes. And you are?” Ye Hao inquired, recognizing the family resemblance in the middle-aged man.
“I'm Lan Zhongtian, Qingqing's father,” he introduced himself. “Thank you for visiting Qingqing.”
“Qingqing is my friend,” Ye Hao stated as he moved to check on Lan Qingqing.
“You mustn't disturb Qingqing at the moment,” the middle-aged noblewoman interjected, blocking Ye Hao's path.
Lan Zhongtian gave the noblewoman a disapproving shake of his head.
Reluctantly, the noblewoman stepped aside, allowing Ye Hao to pass.
Seated beside the bed, Ye Hao gazed at the frail Lan Qingqing and inquired, “What's the matter?”
Before Lan Qingqing could respond, a nearby nurse interjected, “You shouldn't speak right now.”
With a meaningful glance, Ye Hao silently urged Lan Qingqing to remain quiet. He then placed two fingers on her wrist to feel her pulse.
Lan Zhongtian watched, taken aback by the unexpected gesture.
“Can Ye Hao actually heal?” he wondered silently.
Vital spirit is a form of energy that is beneficial to the human body, a fact Ye Hao had learned from the memories of the black dragon. While martial artists also cultivate internal energy, it pales in comparison to the potency of vital spirit.
Ye Hao cautiously avoided channeling too much vital spirit into Lan Qingqing all at once. Yet, as he methodically infused her with vital spirit, her heart rate began to climb, and her vital signs steadily normalized.
The on-duty nurse stood up, astonished, and exclaimed, “This can't be!”
“What's going on?” Lan Zhongtian demanded, his voice grave.
“Lan Qingqing's vital signs are nearly back to those of a healthy individual,” the nurse reported before swiftly pressing the emergency button.
Lan Zhongtian stared at Ye Hao, his expression one of utter amazement.
“Is it this young man who's causing Lan Qingqing's vital signs to stabilize?” he pondered.
Shortly thereafter, three doctors arrived in the intensive care unit.
“We need to examine Lan Qingqing,” an elderly doctor said courteously to Ye Hao.
Ye Hao nodded in agreement and rose to his feet, only to stagger slightly.
“I've expended quite a bit of energy,” Ye Hao reflected internally.
Had Ye Hao fully entered the first level of Body Refining, he wouldn't have felt so drained. At that stage, a complete circuit would form within his body, preventing his vital spirit from being completely depleted.
The three doctors meticulously examined Lan Qingqing's body, and the results left them in disbelief.
Lan Qingqing was just slightly weaker than the average person, with all her vital signs perfectly normal.
“This can't be.”
“It makes no sense.”
Having reached this conclusion, the doctors promptly sought the advice of the dean, Hwa Xu.
Shortly thereafter, an elderly man with silver hair entered Lan Qingqing's hospital room.
He examined Lan Qingqing with great care and gently shook his head.
“What are you suggesting?”
“Lan Qingqing's recovery is merely an illusion. In two or three days, her condition will revert to what it was before,” Hwa Xu said with a sigh.
The doctors were eager to inquire further, but Hwa Xu gestured dismissively and said, “Leave us.”
Without further question, the three doctors exited the room.
Hwa Xu turned to Lan Zhongtian and inquired, “Mr. Lan, who was it that treated Qingqing just now?”
Lan Zhongtian's eyes shifted to Ye Hao.
“Young man, to possess such refined internal energy at your age is quite unexpected. However, I must ask that you refrain from using it to fortify Qingqing's body in the future.”
“Why is that?”
“Internal energy harbors a destructive force. Therefore, such treatment is akin to quenching thirst with poison.”
“I wasn't channeling internal energy into her,” Ye Hao clarified with a slight shake of his head.
“What?” Hwa Xu exclaimed, taken aback.
Ye Hao offered a smile and approached Lan Qingqing's bedside. He produced a jade vase from his pocket, tipped out a medicinal pill, and said, “Take this.”
Lan Qingqing had already removed her oxygen mask, as it was no longer necessary.
Her body's functions had returned to normal.
She nodded and swallowed the pill. As soon as it touched her tongue, it dissolved into a potent energy that flooded through her limbs and torso. Slowly, she began to feel a boundless power filling her entire body.
“How do you feel?”
“I feel like I have an inexhaustible supply of energy,” she responded.
Ye Hao's smile widened as he explained, “This pill can significantly enhance your constitution. If an ordinary person were to take it, it could extend their life by five to six years.”
Ye Hao's revelation left Hwa Xu and the others utterly astonished.
Stepping forward, Hwa Xu asked, “What exactly is this miraculous panacea you hold?”
Hwa Xu had recently encountered a panacea, yet his knowledge of it was limited.
Ye Hao tipped a pill into his hand and offered it to Hwa Xu. Taking a delicate whiff, Hwa Xu exclaimed in astonishment, “This pill is infused with sealwort aged three hundred years, ginseng of five hundred years, and snow clams that are two hundred years old.”
After naming over a dozen esteemed traditional herbs, Hwa Xu affirmed, “This pill truly deserves to be called a panacea.”
