Chapter 50 Darkness Engulfing The Pure Angel
As Han Xifeng listened to the discussions of the Miracle Angel Tribe members, her heart filled with unease. She knew that Lin Feng was a smart man, but the Night Dagger Clan was notorious for their treachery. What if they had persuaded him to switch sides? What if he had already pledged his allegiance to them?
The very thought sent a chill down her spine. If Lin Feng turned to the Night Dagger Clan, all hope of avenging the fallen warriors of the Miracle Angel Tribe would be lost. She had sworn an oath to avenge their deaths, and she would do whatever it took to make that happen.
Han Xifeng clenched her fists, her eyes blazing with fierce determination. She wouldn't let anyone stand in her way, not even Lin Feng.
At this moment, Han Xifeng recalled that voice in the woods. She remembered that location perfectly.
'No. I shouldn't believe that suspicious voice. What if it's a ruse? Moreover, it mentioned a certain price. What if the price is the lives of all my tribe members? No…I can't trust it.'
Buried deep within Han Xifeng's heart, there was a flicker of hope that Lin Feng would return with a burning fury directed towards the Night Dagger Clan. It was a nearly impossible prospect, yet Han Xifeng could not help but cling to it with all her might.
Han Xifeng's current state of mind can be attributed to a psychological phenomenon called confirmatory bias. This is when people tend to seek out information that confirms their beliefs while disregarding evidence that contradicts them.
In Han Xifeng's case, she desperately wants to believe that Lin Feng will return and the Night Dagger Clan will get what they deserve. Despite the slim chance of this happening, she is likely to interpret information in a way that supports this belief. This reinforces her belief and makes it harder for her to consider other possibilities.
After several hours, Lin Feng returned to the lair.
He was immediately surrounded by the tribe's members. They bombarded him with questions about how the meeting went and what was discussed, but Lin Feng simply gave vague and empty responses.
The tribe members exchanged frustrated glances and began to push him for more information. But before they could get any further, Han Xifeng appeared and ordered them not to disturb him.
"Leave him be," she said firmly. "Lin Feng needs rest after that long meeting."
The tribe members reluctantly backed off but still looked dissatisfied with the situation. Han Xifeng then took Lin Feng to a secluded location, away from the prying eyes of the tribe members.
"Lin Feng, what happened?" she asked him, her voice softening.
"It was a long discussion, and Fen Gen revealed some important information," replied Lin Feng, still sounding distant.
"Like what?" asked Han Xifeng, her eyes narrowing slightly.
"Night Dagger Clan didn't really betray us. They had no choice but to ally with Wang Jian as that bastard had threatened them into it."
"And as for betraying the Miracle Angel Tribe, it was to prevent the beasts in the north from reaching his clan."
As Lin Feng spoke, Han Xifeng's eyes turned red as she bellowed, "Bullshit! The Night Dagger Clan has many hideouts! They could have easily relocated to another hideout and saved themselves from the beasts."
"…Yes. I also wasn't convinced by this reasoning. However, Xifeng, Fen Gen still swore loyalty to me."
Han Xifeng muttered, "What use is that bogus allegiance?"
Lin Feng put a hand on her shoulder. "I know it's hard to accept, but we have to be realistic. We can't fight against the whole world. Our primary enemy is Wang Jian, and we require all the help to take him down!"
Han Xifeng looked up at Lin Feng with a mixture of sadness and anger in her eyes, "But at what cost, Lin Feng? The lives of my tribe members were sacrificed for nothing."
Lin Feng shook his head, "I understand, Xifeng. But you must endure. I can punish them for you once we take down Wang Jian."
Han Xifeng's mind raged upon hearing those words, and she instinctively clenched her fists. But she didn't want to show these emotions to Lin Feng, so she put on a brave front and nodded, "I understand, Lin Feng. I won't let my emotions cloud my judgment."
Lin Feng gave her a small smile of appreciation. "That's my girl."
As Lin Feng reached out to take Han Xifeng's hand, he intended to lead her for a romantic stroll in the serene surroundings. However, to his surprise, Han Xifeng abruptly withdrew her hand and hastened away from the spot.
The abruptness of her departure left Lin Feng befuddled and hurt, wondering if there was something he had done wrong. The once peaceful and picturesque location now seemed sombre and desolate to him as he watched Han Xifeng's silhouette disappear into the distance.
Han Xifeng's heart was shattered into a million pieces as she realized that all her hopes for revenge were futile. The last flicker of hope she held onto was now snuffed out, and she was left in despair.
She could see it in Lin Feng's eyes. He had no intentions of seeking retribution for her tribe's fallen warriors. It seemed as though he had forgiven the Night Dagger Clan, and Han Xifeng believed that he didn't care about their treacherous actions anymore.
As Han Xifeng continued to brood over her thoughts, they took a dark turn. She thought of ways to avenge her tribe, even if it meant using the most despicable means.
Her angelic wings suddenly appeared on her back, and they began to darken as if reflecting the darkness that had taken hold of her heart.
She had always been the epitome of grace and kindness, but the betrayal of her tribe and the perceived apathy of her fiancé had driven her to a dark place. Her thoughts turned to revenge, and she began to envision the destruction of the Night Dagger Clan.
The more she dwelled on these thoughts, the more her wings darkened until they were no longer the pure white they once were.
