Chapter 4: Chloé Steeline
Chapter 4: Chloé Steeline
[Ding! Successfully connected to the World's Destiny Net]
Sleeping in my crib, I was startled awake by the sudden notification from the system and cursed it as soon as I woke up.
"Yun sob! f a ych... Saystem"
My vocal cords were still not developed enough to properly curse, but I was able to voice out some incomprehensible words that were more funny and cute than some angry curses.
~Phew!
After taking a long breath and regaining my bearings, I realised that cursing wouldn't accomplish much, so I concentrated on the system's notification.
Finally, six months were fully completed, and my system was back.
I had a lot of questions that I wanted to ask the system, but after giving them some thought, I ultimately pushed everything else aside and questioned what I was most curious about.
'System, tell me what took you so long. I mean weren't you an Omnipotent Villain System? Why did you have to go into hibernation for six months to successfully connect to a small world's destiny? Can't you do it in a few seconds, like those novels?'
Okay! My mistake.
I wanted to ask just one question, but as I began to ask the system in my mind, one question after another popped into my head, and I couldn't help but ask them all.
[The system is indeed an Omnipotent Villain System, and is capable of achieving almost anything.]
[A world's destiny net is a very intricate and fragile structure made up of over a hundred trillion threads of fate.]
[Anyone who wants to properly connect to the world's destiny net without drawing unwanted attention to themselves must follow a complex set of steps]
[If the system had selected any other approach, the world would have burst from the system's overload of energy]
Ahh!
'So you're saying that you're too strong for the world'
Humph!
'show off system'
I grumbled and clicked my tongue, but the system ignored my comments and kept answering all of my prior queries one by one.
[There are many children of destiny on Arcedia, some of whom are destined to rule over the galaxies. As a result, the world of Arcedia is not a small world, but it is one of the three largest worlds in this dimension.]
[Reminder to the host: This is reality and not a fictional novel.]
'Oh right! Multiple children of destiny!'
'System! How come the world of Arcedia has more than one protagonist? '
'Wasn't there only supposed to be Kevin before the author died? And you say this is a real world; then how could I have read it in a novel in my previous world?'
I asked one question after another in my head as I remembered what the system said before suddenly going into hibernation.
[Affirmative! This is indeed the world of Arcedia that the host has read in the novel from his previous life]
[Request declined! The prerequisites have not been met by the host]
[To learn the truth about various children of destiny and why the host was able to learn about the future of this world from a novel in another world, the host must kill the first child of destiny in this world and be at least a Sword Grandmaster in strength.]
[The host does not need to be concerned about the other children of destiny, because they will only awaken their destiny one after another when the host has killed the first child of destiny.]
[The only information the system can provide for now is that the other children of destiny aren't even decided yet by the world, and they have their own time when their story starts, but when the first child of destiny is killed, the world wouldn't have any option left but to forcefully awaken the destiny of another child of destiny ahead of time.]
Although the information provided by System cleared a lot of my doubts, some of the main ones still remained.
'What the hell? Request declined, what prerequisites? and...'
However, before I could finish my question and confront the system about human rights to knowledge and transparency of any terms and conditions,
~Clink!
The door of my room opened, and a beautiful looking lady in her mid twenties with long, curly, golden blonde hair, emerald green eyes, an hourglass body, and a snowy white complexion entered the room.
She was donning a corset-style dress with puffy sleeves and delicate gold linings that exactly fit her hands, a portrait collar with gold buttons down to the belly, a white frill, and soft yellow ribbon lining at the wrists. On top of the dress, she was wearing a dark passion cerise coat.
"Looks like our little Luke is already awake!"
She spoke up as she approached my crib and lifted me in her arms.
For some reason, the language used in this world is also English, so even though I couldn't speak properly, I could comprehend every word she said.
She was Duchess Chlo Steeline, Duke Brandon Steeline's sole wife, and my lovely mother.
Born in the Noble House of Spade, despite being raised like a princess, she was a strong and ruthless woman, capable of beheading her enemies without even blinking an eye. But to the people she loves, she is the most innocent and kindhearted person.
There wasn't much backstory shown in the novel about the family members of a villain who was only used and thrown away like trash from the beginning till the end.
The novel simply described her appearance and described that she and my father were the ones who turned Luke into a villain in the novel; they were depicted as nasty people who loved to plot against others.
However, after living in this world for 6 months and literally spending my entire day with my mother, who always plays with me and talks to me about her feelings and her past, I came to know that everything was a lie.
In reality, she was a lovely and kind-hearted woman.
She revealed to me everything that she had kept hidden in her heart from the world. She probably thought that I wouldn't be able to understand her words anyway, but knowing English from my previous world, I was able to understand everything perfectly.
This helped me get a clear image of her in my mind, and I once again cursed that dog author.
who slandered her in the original novel.
I also came to know that she married Duke Brandon, my father, in order to mutually consolidate both his and her families' power bases as Dukes, and that due to this transactional relationship, she had a colder, more businesslike relationship with him.
But everything changed after I was born. Her heart, which had been closed due to the transactional relationship and Duke Brandon's frigid attitude, gradually began to open.
She could feel the connection and maternal love she had for me, and that love, coupled with my cute behaviour towards her, was ultimately able to restore her back to her joyful attitude.
I could now see what had to have truly happened in the novel.
A mother who loved her son fulfilled all of his wishes and indulged him to the fullest; she just wanted the best for him, and if I recall correctly, she even tried to persuade him to leave his fiance because she understood that Selina was only using Luke and wasn't actually in love with him.
However, Luke, who became blind because of his love for Selina, never listened to his mother, and Selina, who was in the protagonist's party and was affected by the protagonist's luck, was easily able to escape from the attempts of the Duchess to separate Selina from her son.
For someone like me who grew up with trash parents in my previous life who used to beat me up daily as a kid, Chlo was an angel.
And although 6 months wasn't a long time, in these past 6 months, she gave me so much love that for me, she was the most important person in this world at the moment. For me, she was the real version of a mother that I had always dreamed of.
That was why my blood boils whenever I remember her ending in the novel.
When Luke died in the novel, she tried her best to avenge his death and fought till the end, and even after the Steeline family was almost annexed by the protagonist, she still fought hard,
But!
She was betrayed by her own family, by her real parents, who later joined the hero's faction and poisoned their own daughter to death in her sleep.
Aaahhh! hate!
"Little Luke! did you poop again in your diapers?"
"...."
Perhaps, seeing my angry face, she thought I had dirtied myself, and she began undressing me without even expecting a response from me.
~Sigh!
Although it was really shameful for me, who had the mind of an adult, to be undressed and have my butt and underwear checked, in these 6 months I have come to terms with it, and now it is a normal event for me.
"You didn't poop! then are you hungry?"
"Hehehe" I giggled cutely at that.
Oh Yes!
The best part of being a baby.
Even though I wasn't really hungry, hearing her words suddenly made me really hungry.
~Cough!
~Cough!
For real, I am just hungry and want some milk.
Don't doubt the innocent me.
