Chapter 240: Testing the sword

Chapter 240: Testing the sword

Being a demonic beast living inside a city wasn't an easy thing to do. But even by combining all the hardships, hunts and dangers of this human lair, it still paled in comparison to the common slaughter fo the week happening in the wildlands.

My daily routine started way before the sunrise. It was surprisingly the best time to hunt for some leftover scraps. While it was true that most of the juicy rodents started their feasts way earlier, at this time, they were all filled to the brim and unable to run very fast. To add to that, with how big I am compared to those sweet balls of tasty fat, if I were to scavenge the city in the hours where humans were still active, I would be hunted in a matter of hours!

Sneaking in on one of the best spots that I found so far, I could already smell all the diffrent kinds of rats and Bubainga, called trashdwellers by humans. While they apparently often initiated their colonies in all the cities they build for some reason, I think my kind was the greatest benefactor of this situation!

Even if Bubaingas were awful in taste and were quite lacking in terms of the energetical value of their meat, they still allowed me to sate my hunger!

Sneaking towards the big pile of the trash, I made sure to use the shadows lingering in the corners of the street despite all the various tools that humans used to set their streets alight, even in the midst of the night.

Just few more steps forward and

Jump!

Banking on the prowess of my instinct and innate speed, I managed to follow one of the escaping rodents with my eyes. In the next second, I twisted my neck and reached with my jaws, only to feel the taste of delicious blood erupting in my mouth.

I caught one!

Clasping my teeth on the soft body of the rat, I shook my head a few times to ensure that it wouldn't be able to run before throwing it away. The hunt was only beginning!

With the pile of thrash spreading as far as my eyes could see in the dark, it was obvious that no human buildings would be anywhere around. Not only did it guarantee my safety for the most part, it also made all those juicy pieces of meat unable to escape through some narrow holes or cracks in the walls!

After hunting relentlessly for a few hours I finally managed to obtain a satisfactory pile of the food for the next few days.

Living in the city wasn't about the ability to escape human sight, but more about hiding away for most of the times. Speaking from my experience, by the time when I would come back to this bountiful pile of thrash, the population of various rodents would grow to the point when the hunt would be gib enough again!

Moving back to the small pile of dead animals, I push them around with my paw to make it easier to clasp all fo them and move to my hideout. I need to control how much time I have left as diligently as I would guard my liar back in the forest. If I will be late to run away, humans would launch another wave of the hunt. So far, my entire tribe has fallen under the hits of their strange weapons. Who could even though of using a shining piece of earth to fight instead of relying on one's paws and tooth?

If not for their overwhelming numbers, my tribe would take over this piece with ease and feast on all those rodents to our bellies content!

But it wasn't something that would ever happen. I had to survive. If not for the sake of my dead compatriots, then at least for the sake of the juicy meat of those rodents!

"The starting bid will be five hundred! It was made by an ancient, dwarven blacksmith with the use of Mythril, perfect iron and orichalcum! While the ores used to craft it might not be as rare as you might want, thanks to the insane skill of the author of this weapon, it's far better than you could imagine! But no matter how much I will praise it, I think a small example would be of far better use!"

Gesturing at the girl standing in wait in the room below the stage, I saw her throw a simple sword upwards through the tunnel. Picking the sword up, I raised it overhead and turned back to the crowd.

"Some of you might know, but the sword called "Noobsmasher" recently sold in the Bakari Auction house was in fact, stolen from me. While I can't prove my ownership over it and will deal with the thief accordingly, it so happens that I have a perfect copy of it right here!"

Waving the sword around, I then placed in on my hand and just held it in the air to let the spectators analyze it. Seeing that some of the spectators in the seats under the stage started widening their eyes in amazement, I took out a small rack from my storage ring.

Looking just like the item you use in gyms to hand the weights after doing your training, I created it for the sole purpouse of this demonstration. Putting the sword that was suposed to be the exact copy of the one I created for the sake of duelling Baxhar on the racks, I made sure that its edge was facing upwards.

"This small test here is just for the sake of proving that this sword is as sharpened as it should be!"

Taking out a small, iron ingot, I simply raised it over the sword and relaxed my grip.

When the crowd saw the motionless sword cutting it in half, they left out a gasp of surprise! Just the effect I was waiting for!

"And now, let me show you the real prowess of the auctioned sword!"

Not even bothering to take a big, proper swing, I simply slashed down with the Dragon Slayer sword at the test object.

With a 'swoosh' sound, it appeared on the bottom side of the sword, just like if it was a light projection and illusion instead of a proper weapon.

Seeing the crowd looking at me with bewildered looks in their eyes, I simply smiled, placed the auctioned sword away on a separate rack and waited.

A few moments later, with a 'cling' sound, the two halves of the testing sword lost their balance and fell down to the ground.
