Chapter 7: The True Moonlight
Chapter 7: The True Moonlight
In the early morning of the following day, the dawn spread its light everywhere.
Jiang Qin slipped out of his house, rode his bicycle around the city, and then entered the Jizhou City Zoo.
Due to it being both a Sunday and the summer holidays, the entrance to the zoo was teeming with people, more crowded than a temple fair.
An hour later, Jiang Qin squeezed out of the zoo, almost losing his shoes in the process.
Once outside, he squatted at the entrance, gulping down a large amount of water, then took out his Nokia phone and called Guo Zihang, asking him to come over.
Guo Zihangs house was not far from there. Upon receiving Jiang Qins call, he immediately hopped on his bike and rushed over, puffing along the way. Despite being drenched in sweat, he was in high spirits.
He looked forward to being summoned by Brother Jiang every day, always feeling that there was a chance to make money. But when he found Jiang Qin, he couldnt help but freeze on the spot.
There was Jiang Qin, squatting on the ground, holding a plucked chicken in each hand.
What are you doing, Brother Jiang?
Jiang Qin shook the chickens in his hands: Bought two chickens for ten yuan. Im giving you one. Take it home and let your mom stew it for you.
Guo Zihang glanced at the zoos signboard, bewildered but impressed: How come youre bringing your own animals to the zoo?
Not brought, bought. These are for feeding the tigers in the zoo. A chicken in the market sells for eleven yuan, but buying theirs, which is meant for their tigers, is half the price.
Then why didnt you feed the tigers?
After hearing this, Jiang Qins gaze sharpened: Why should I feed the tigers with half-priced chickens I bought with my own skills?
Guo Zihang opened his mouth, hesitated for a while before speaking: Youre exploiting the zoo.
Stop the nonsense, do you want it or not?
Yes, I love chicken!
Guo Zihang took the chicken handed over by Jiang Qin, clutched the chickens neck, and his expression suddenly became complicated.
He could almost imagine a scene where the zoos tigers and the keepers were reconciling the accounts, but the numbers just didnt add up.
The tiger said, I didnt eat it, dont falsely accuse me!
The keeper said, stop it, it was you who ate it.
The tiger said, you accuse me of stealing chickens and think its justified? Anyway, I didnt eat it.
The keeper said, if not you, then who? A dog?
Brother Jiang, why are you buying chickens from the zoo?
I plan to buy these half-priced chickens in bulk, sneak them out, and sell them in the market for ten yuan each. I can double my money in no time.
Then why did you only buy two?
I estimated that the security guard at the zoo entrance is a bit tough, and I dont think I can take him. So, I called you to be the vanguard and test his combat value.
Dont, Brother Jiang, Im the most cowardly. I even stutter when I scold someone!
Useless thing, all you know is eating!
Jiang Qin put his chicken into a plastic bag and opened a bottle of mineral water for a drink.
Speculating like this made money fast, but it couldnt be a long-term strategy. He didnt want to cause trouble; he just wanted to make money without hassle. Besides, such petty tricks were far from his goal after being reborn.
Jiang Qin stood up, handed his chicken to Guo Zihang to take back for him, and then rode his bike to his next stop, the Jizhou City Library.
He was troubled about how to earn his first pot of gold, having thought of various methods but none seemed feasible.
Damn, lacking a system really makes everything so much harder.
However, even without a clear idea, Jiang Qin was not planning to stay idle at home. He believed in the truth he had learned in his previous life: once a person starts to become lazy, they tend to get even n lazier. Therefore, he decided to go to the library to find some books, hoping to find inspiration, perhaps a hidden treasure within the pages.
How to Become a Charming Man That Rich Women Love
Effective Openers When Meeting a Wealthy Woman
Fifteen Gentlemanly Details That Impress Rich Women
The Glamorous Transformation of the Third Generation Monk Tang
Successful Cases of Keeping Company with Rich Women
Jiang Qin picked several books from the humanities and social sciences section, intending to study them carefully.
Honestly, he felt that the only shortcut to his first fortune under the current circumstances was to keep company with a rich woman. Being a young and strong man, earning money through physical labor was not shameful.
Holding a stack of books, Jiang Qin headed to the reading area, but before he could sit down, his gaze was suddenly drawn to a corner in the southeast.
There sat a young girl, wearing a waist-cinching long dress. The small portion of her arm resting on the table was fairer than snow, her eyes beneath dense eyelashes sparkled like water, her red lips were moist and full, and her soft, long hair cascaded down her shoulders, shining like pearls under the sunlight.
The girl was engrossed in a thick book, her eyes flickering, serene and well-behaved.
Jiang Qin paused, as a related memory seemed to be activated in his mind.
Feng Nanshu, the studious girl of class one, grade twelve, a silent and unreachable beauty, the true moonlight of Chengnan High School.
Rumors said she was chauffeured to and from school in a winged car, accompanied by a personal driver and bodyguard, hinting at a mysterious family background.
Some said her father was a wealthy businessman in international trade, others claimed she was a princess exiled from the capital, and there were even whispers of her being an illegitimate daughter who couldnt be exposed to the public. The rumors varied, but their credibility was low.
Yet, Feng Nanshu indeed possessed the demeanor of a rich familys daughter, aloof in character, friendless, and besides answering questions in class, she never spoke a word to anyone else.
It was this ice-cold demeanor, combined with the intimidation of her burly bodyguards, that made her admired by many but approachable by none.
Chu Siqi had already been the youth crush of many, but she paled in comparison to Feng Nanshu.
Even after attending university, Jiang Qin had met many girls who could rival Chu Siqi, but Feng Nanshu remained an astonishing presence in his memory.
Mr. Lu Xun was indeed right books do hold beauties as fair as jade. [Famous Chinese writer]
But did Lu Xun really say that?
Jiang Qin pondered, deciding it didnt matter. If he couldnt remember the author, then it must have been said by Lu Xun.
Meanwhile, Feng Nanshu seemed to sense someones gaze on her and glanced over with a raised eyebrow.
In the moment their eyes met, her eyelashes trembled slightly, and she quickly refocused on the book in her hands.
Indeed, she was aloof.
Jiang Qin gave a fair assessment, then walked over and sat at the table opposite her.
Reading was a tedious affair, and taking a break to admire a beautiful woman was a good choice. Reading to make money, and admiring beauty to continue reading in the end, both were tools, not contradicting his principle of money being paramount.
Jiang Qin took out a book and placed it in front of him, his gaze inadvertently falling on the book in Feng Nanshus hands.
The Magic Eyed Girl Peggy Sue
Hmm?
Shouldnt a girl with such a cold temperament be reading something like Kafka on the Shore, a novel with a literary air? Why was she reading a fantasy adventure novel seemingly aimed at younger readers?
Just as Jiang Qin was slightly startled, the novel in front of him moved upwards.
The half-exposed face was now completely covered, even those beautiful eyes were hidden from view.
Jiang Qin regained his focus, unable to help raising an eyebrow.
Not even a glimpse of her face?
Aloof, truly aloof.
Jiang Qin didnt mind and simply started flipping through the book in front of him.
Some of those books are real books.
