Chapter 98: Space Elevator
Milia didn't answer and looked angrily at Alvin. "I asked it first."
"Ah... right, right!" Alvin switched instantly and began to explain. "You know about Linfel, right? So... there is a planet Linfel intends to visit. The only problem is that this planet is on the other side of the Universe."
"What?!" Milia didn't believe that. "Do you take me for a fool? Don't you know how impossible that is? It would take tens of thousands of years to get there. The only way is through the Worm-" She suddenly stopped. "You can't be serious..."
"Sure enough, you are also aware of these limitations," Alvin spoke with a bitter smile. "That's what Linfel intends to do. He wants to become an elder Familiar so he can get the authorization to use the Wormhole."
Linfel didn't deny it. "Why do you always speak as if I'm already done for? You guys should learn to accept the challenges of life. Besides, there might be other ways to get to the Wormhole without having to become an elder, you know? We just need to search a little once we join the Ventis Sect."
Alvin shrugged with a bitter smile. As for Milia and Nori, they found Linfel's idea simply ridiculous. "Just so that you know, one can only become an elder of the Ventis Sect is they are at least Level Eight. Our entire planet has only one Level Eight Magus, so you can imagine how difficult it is, not counting the time it will take."
Linfel simply ignored that. "Whatever. I said it before, and I will say it again here. I'm not forcing any of you to follow me. Even if I have to do this alone, I will do it. I need to find out more about Horan, and my only clue is his birth planet.
I won't blame either of you if you decide to drop from the exam now."
Alvin shook his head. "Even if I ignore your idea to get access to a wormhole, there is still the fact that I might be able to join the Ventis Sect. For me, this trip with you is already very interesting. I have no intention to drop off now, and I WILL help you with everything I can during this journey."
Milia had her reasons, too. "Well, I also didn't expect to find you two here. After Alvin disappeared, I remembered that Linfel did help me with a new identity that is not connected to the Frondor Family. That said, I decided to challenge myself. It was around that time that I heard about the Ventis Sect exam approaching."
Nori continued from there. "First, we worked hard in Clondure to earn as many Magic Stones as possible. Then, we focused on our absorption. Milia and I were already close to Level Three back in the academy, so we just needed a little extra push. The only reason we didn't do it before was because we were reinforcing our foundations."
Milia nodded. "The battles in Heffal definitely helped with it, so we managed to breakthrough into Level Three in the end. We then used the rest of the time to get used to our new strength and came here to take the test. Fortunately, we went way better than we expected."
Milia smiled. "In the end, my coming to this test had nothing to do with you two. Regardless if I find Linfel's idea ridiculous or not, I'm not here to intervene with it. I'm here for myself, and so is Nori."
Linfel was satisifed. "That's more like it. You have talent; you only lack opportunity. Just focus on yourself, and you will go far."
"What about me?" Alvin asked, excited.
"Errr..." Linfel didn't know how to say it. "You are still my good trash. Keep working hard!"
Alvin almost vomited blood. Isn't that the same as saying he has no talent whatsoever? Well, it wasn't like he didn't know it.
Milia couldn't help but giggle again. Their interactions always make her smile. But then, she remembered something. "Wait, how the hell did you get that result, Alvin?"
"Oh..." Alvin forgot to speak about that.
Linfel was the one to explain, though. He used his method to communicate direct to one's soul, scaring Milia and Nori for a moment. After finishing the explanation, Milia and Nori finally understood just how absurd Linfel's existence really was. "Was there such a thing? That makes you-" Milia wanted to say that Linfel is a treasure himself through and through. However, Milia stopped there.
Speaking any further might attract unnecessary attention to Linfel. After all, he is still Familiar in everyone's eyes. Not to mention, she heard the story of how Wisps were treated back in Linfel's time. Saying such a thing wouldn't be nice.
Finally, Milia decided to let go of the past and focus on the test. "Whatever. I'll tell my seniors of the Floating Blades Faction about you later. I will let it slide this time, but you better make up for me."
Alvin smiled happily. "Yes, yes! I will definitely make it up to you."
After that, they watched the rest of the test unfold. There were several position changes, but Linfel's first place was unbeatable until the very end. As for Alvin, he did fall a few more positions as more Level Four Maguses took the test. Nonetheless, he still finished 28th.
Milia and Nori were obviously down around 3000s, but that was far above necessary to get in the top 30%
When the test finished, all the screens in the area changed. At the same time, a video stream was made available for all the participants who made it to the top 30% to watch in their MCOMs. Everyone was excited since the second test onwards was always a secret.
-Congratulations to all the participants who made it to the top 30%. With this, the first test is over. However, don't drop your guard, as things will only get more difficult. As everyone knows, there are five tests in the Ventis Sect Exam, and the second test will cut the remaining number by another 90%.-
Suddenly, tens of thousands of cameras equipped with Magical Energy Sensors flew up in the sky, surrounding the Space Elevator all the way to the clouds and beyond.
-The next test is to climb the Space Elevator all the way to the Space Station. The first 10% of Maguses and Familiars to get there will take the third test.-
Everyone was dumbstruck by the news... except Linfel. "Whoever organized this test would definitely be good friends with Horan. Hahaha!"
