Chapter 108
108 Credit
After most of his confusion had been cleared up Layton finally thought back to and thought back to the problem at hand, which was the rapid dwindling of his credits. Reading lots of book’s in the library naturally wasn’t for free and required a lot of credits.
Credits were the internal virtual monetary circulation of the school city, which meant that they were absolutely useless once an individual was out of school city. There were only 3 universal forms of currency in the void currencies which were created for the needs of various powerhouses and numerous lives in the void, these currencies were created at the same time the 3 civilizations came into existence, before their creation, It was very hard for there to be a verified stable currency in the void, this was because at a certain level strength it was easy for the conversion of energy and matter to take place, certain products could be mass produced by practitioners essentially destroying whatever fragile economy exists, whatever currency in circulation was not safe as it could be copied, practitioners of certain strength and ability regard money as dung and just took or created what they wanted, of course for some rare resources trade and commercial activities are still carried out but this is in terms of barter, after the end of the chaotic war the 3 great civilizations that had just emerged and desired to put an end to the chaos created a currency one which was created out of a rare resources that was before this decision was only enjoyed by its core members but as a sign of return to order and a symbol to herald the halt of the war these resources where open to all beings as a form of currency.
One of the universal currency was the martial civilization causal coin, like its name it’s a materialized rule of cause and effect, that is the relationship between all things, the intertwined destiny and trajectory of all beings, how each action or inaction will lead to certain fruits the martial civilization is one of the foremost experts in this field most of their practices and state of mind pay great importance to this aspect, it was only natural that the civilization at its birth delved deeper into the subject in an attempt to solve their shortcoming, the result was the birth of the casual coin a materialized rule of the concept. The accumulation of a certain amount of coin can indeed create an effect similar to realizing one wishes through the use of various relationships between individuals and toying with fate and destiny.
The other is the science federation variables a currency which is created using a peculiar technology that transforms the vitality, spirituality and ability of change into a peculiar accepted form, as it suggests the currency is a materialized form of power which causes change effectively allowing the impossible to become possible, the currency marginalizes and manipulates the existence of probability and fate.
The existence of variables is a core indispensable part of the science concept that exists at the core of the federation, like the cause and effect of the WU civilization the variable also exists as a boon and disturbance to the science federation practitioner’s and so a technology to curb unwanted change, stifle unexpected probability from their experiment sites or planes was created giving birth to the variable currency.
And lastly the plane source of the wizard civilization, the energy which keeps a plane in existence, it is very rare for the plane source to be harvested without creating total destruction of the plane itself, it was only the wizard civilization that had the technology to achieve this feat safely, the plane source was a type of universal energy that was very helpful in practice, its use was to enable one to easily enter enlightenment, increase comprehension, reduce the time which was needed to advance to a certain stage and with a sizeable amount forcefully break through bottlenecks as long a sizeable amount was invested.
At the beginning before a unified concept of practice of the wizard civilization was established, wizards travelled countless planes scouring them destroying or colonizing them just for the plane source, it was this source that propelled practitioners further in their quest to understand several rules and discover new runes, although with the birth of the new practice system and civilization the value of the source was greatly reduced but it was still a precious resource nonetheless and so it was used by the wizard civilization as a type of currency.
The reason these 3 were universal is not only because of the strength and status of the 3 civilizations but because the meaning behind these currencies applied universally to almost all creatures, cause and effect, similar to destiny and fate affects almost all beings, variables are a constant phenomenon that can almost never be changed as long a creature is not satisfied with its own destiny as long as life or the plane wants to evolve variables will emerge and lastly the plane source, a vital energy that basically all planes are made up of, even the elemental dimensions contain their own plane source.
Layton’s dilemma at the moment was because although he had plane sources left from his first travel with the dimensional eroder, the exchange currency policy of the school city was appalling, it was said this was done in order to discourage the wealthy individuals from using their wealth to exert too much influence in the running of school city, of course this was just a discouragement and not many took heed to it, as long as resources were abundant there was no way from school city to decline the exchange of credits for any of the three great currencies, their only option was to minimize the amount that could be exchanged and increase the exchange rate to an absurd level. It was absurd because these three currencies were basically artifacts, even in some lower planes a single coin of any of these currencies could enable individuals to exert miraculous effects meanwhile the credits were only available and useful in school city.
.....
Although Layton had Makarov as his grandmaster it didn’t mean Layton was rich, Makarov had given him no resources or help the same was true for solace, in fact, Layton’s only tangible assets were only the plane sources from his previous plane travel and so he needed a means of income if he did not want to experience a rash plane erosion mission.
