Chapter 285 Melody
Chapter 285 Melody
Melody is a unique place in Gaia. It is one of numerous fallen kingdoms that border the western plains, but it is the only one that isn't encompassed by the evil lands.
Ruined Kingdoms are a breed of unruly people, killers, and the worst of players and NPCs. But Melody is the only one that is accessible without entering the evil lands.
It is said that when the fight of the gods occurred, the battle field were these ruined kingdoms. The aftershocks of the fight were too strong for mortals to endure. This led to the demise of everything in between.
All that remain in these kingdoms are remains of civilization and nothing more. This has led to Melody becoming a hub for a more 'recreational' sport.
"Huff!" Jake took a few short breaths as he looked up at the steep climb that he had ahead of him.
The problem with ruined kingdoms was that they were only glimpses at civilization. No one wants to go there, and there is no teleportation portal near the kingdom.
The only way to reach these places was through foot. And since the Evil Lands were already sealed off, those kingdoms were even harder to reach.
"If only this was in the south side of the evil lands. That was charted territory. I wonder how those guys are doing." Jake thought back to when he last went into the Evil Lands.
Dismissing those brief memories, he looked back up.
Luckily for him, he didn't need to enter the Evil Lands. He knew for sure that if he ever did enter the Evil Lands, there would be a giant target on his back almost instantly.
The Evil God was not a fan, considering he acted against Jake in person.
"Damn those merchants. They didn't even let me buy a horse the moment they knew where I was headed." Jake cursed.
He knew the reason why it was so, though. These NPC merchants cared about their horses. And taking horses to Melody was like signing their life away.
Melody had become a fest of slaughter and atrocity that gave it another moniker.
"The Song of Sin," they called the ruined kingdom.
"Another reference to Sin. The back story must be intense." Jake chuckled as he shook his head.
Finally, he reached the end of the slope and looked down.
From where he was, he could see what remained of a giant city wall.
He had long entered the technical border of Melody, and now he was looking at what used to be its capital city.
Jake's gaze shifted to the left as he took a look at the quest map that showed him where he had to go.
Remembering what the quest was made him chuckle.
"How long has it been since I got an F ranked quest?" He wondered as he started walking down the road.
As he did, he heard a slight rustle.
Almost instantly, his hand went to his sword and he looked at where the sound came from.
Jake didn't speak and just stared at the bushes to the side.
The road that he was traveling through was horrible. It made him a target to everyone that wanted to hide by the side.
But Jake didn't give a hoot. These weren't going to be the monsters in the Evil Lands. They were going to be players that wanted to loot him.
Rustle!
Another sound came from behind him this time. But Jake didn't move, and his eyes were still fixed at where the sound initially came from.
"You-ou Fool! Give me all-all you got!"
A shout came from behind him.
Jake didn't have to turn around to know that someone was trying to ambush him from behind.
And yet, Jake didn't even flinch as his armor shone brightly.
Reflect!
The moment he felt a sword make contact with his armor, he heard the yelp that was so reminiscent of the incredible skill his armor had.
"Finally. It works. Fighting that guy made me doubt the armor. Thank god." Jake took a deep breath as he finally turned to look at his assailant.
"So, you thought I was going to be easy prey?" Jake smiled.
In front of him was a rat faced young man, probably a few years older than Jake at best.
He was decked in some good looking armor.
Rare grade, no doubt. The looting business had served this young man really well.
"Just how many people come by this road, for you to be able to afford rare armor? And how the hell did someone so weak keep it?" Jake shook his head as he thought.
"Well, do you want to call out your friend or do you want me to wait for him to come out?" He said with a loud voice.
The rat faced young man got up on his feet and leaped back.
"Fri- friend? The- there is no fr- friend!" The young man stuttered as he kept tightening his grip on his sword.
"Sure. If I kill you, then he will appear." Jake shrugged.
"You- you wan- want to kill me- me? Fin- fine. Lets se- see-"
"Stop stuttering you stupid idiot. This is why I hate working with you. You already gave me away." A voice came from behind Jake.
Jake yawned as he took a few steps forward so that he could see both of the bandits.
One of them kept looking down while the other was actually confident.
"Ah! Tier Two? That makes sense. No wonder. Killing players really does do you good." Jake thought to himself as he looked at the blood red name that the second player had.
"So then. Why wait? I am in a little hurry. Both of you can come at me right now." Jake sighed and said.
