Chapter 2 - Died In A Mission
After leaving the studio, Song Xing Xing walked over to the bus stop. Having good news from the Producer, Song Xing Xing felt her steps lighter as if she was stepping on a cloud. She was too happy that she started to spin around while ignoring the passerby's strange look.
She arrived at the bus stop and checked the bus schedule.
Seeing that there were a few minutes before the bus will arrive, Song Xing Xing took out her phone, tapped her finger on the MMORPG's game, and started to do her dailies to kill time.
In the beginning, she only wanted to play casually. After a while, she stayed because the graphic looked cute and she was attracted to the collecting pretty costumes. Before she knew it, it has been around two years since she started to play this game. Now, her level was quite high and she had become one of the high-ranked members of their guild.
Seeing that the bus has not yet arrived, Song Xing Xing tapped at the map, headed over to the Notice Center, and picked up a few quests. Then, she started to click the map again and let her character move to that location.
The monster she will be fighting was five-level above hers. At the thought that her character might die soon, Song Xing Xing cast a healing spell on herself to stay alive.
Her heart grew anxious as she watched that there was only a few percent of HP until that monster will be defeated. As long as she can stay alive, she can win this quest! Then, she can finally collect the materials she needed to craft some costumes.
However… at this critical time, the screen suddenly changed, and her mother's name appeared on the phone. Seeing that her mother had called her at a critical time like this, Song Xing Xing wanted to cry! She was really close to defeating that monster, and now, she won't know what happened until she returned to the game.
But this is also her fault. Last time, she had turned off the game mode system and forgotten to turn them back on.
Feeling slightly dejected, Song Xing Xing swiped her finger on the screen and pressed the phone to her ear. "Hello, mom…"
"Xing Xing? Are you free now? Can you talk?"
"Un. I'm off work a while ago. What's the matter?"
"I just remember you told me that your contract with this show will end around this time," Song Xing Xing's mother, Ye Ling Feng said. "When will you return to Y City?"
Song Xing Xing's recalled her conversation with Producer Ming earlier today and suddenly did not know how to answer. "Uh… mom, I might not return this time."
"Why?"
"My producer… he's going to introduce me to a new job. Mom, this time, it's a permanent position," Song Xing Xing said. "I'm planning to stay here."
Suddenly, there was a brief silence.
Song Xing Xing bit at her lips as she guessed at what was in her mother's thought. "Mom, you promised. Once I found a permanent position in this line of work, you were going to let me stay in Capital City."
"I know. But Xing Xing, I am worried. You're the only daughter I have, but instead of accompanying me, you were staying miles away. You're a girl, yet, you are living alone in such a big city."
"Mom, I'm not alone. Isn't my cousin brother and his wife is living in Capital City as well?"
"You were never close to Song Yi. Didn't you say that your cousin brother is such a scary man?" Ye Ling Feng said.
"But his wife is a very nice person," Song Xing Xing said. "We have exchanged our contact numbers and had always kept in touch. If I run into trouble, I can find his wife instead."
Ye Ling Feng heaved a long sigh. It was not that she was unhappy that her daughter had finally received an offer for a permanent spot, however, she was a little worried about that daughter and wanted to keep her around closer.
In Ye Ling Feng's opinion, her daughter was such a bright child. However, she would often choose the road that most of them would not take.
Most of the children in their Song family would take business study or politics. However, this daughter of hers chose to study film making instead.
Initially, Ye Ling Feng had suggested her husband start up a studio in Y City so that her daughter could stay and keep her company. However, she did not expect that Song Xing Xing would reject this offer.
Song Xing Xing was determined to work her way from the bottom. The reason she had taken a few jobs as contractual workers were to gain experience.
As her mother, Ye Ling Feng knew that she should be happy. In the end, she could only agree to her daughter's request.
"Alright. Just stay in Capital City if you want to," Ye Ling Feng said. But Xing Xing, you have to remember… whatever happens, your father and I will always be here for you. If you think you are too tired, you can always return home. The Song family is not lacking money to support you."
"Mom… I know." The mother and daughter exchanged a few more words before Song Xing Xing finally hung up. She then returned to her game and was not surprised upon finding that her character had died and therefore, she had failed in the mission.
After pondering about it for a while, Song Xing Xing decided to use another chance to fight that monster before the bus would arrive. After checking at her HP and MP, Song Xing Xing began to move her character to fight that monster.
This time, she was really focused. She was determined to defeat this monster so that she could work on the costume that she has been eyeing for a long time.
Her eyes were moving to check her HP, then the monster's HP. Song Xing Xing grew anxious as she was close to defeat this monster. Her fingers tapped on the screen crazily as she launched her attacks on that monster.
Finally, the camera moved and the monster gradually disappeared. On the screen, the word, 'Congratulation' was seen. Song Xing Xing raised her hand and was about to do some celebratory dance when her phone rang again.
Seeing that it was her best friend, Bai Zhi, Song Xing Xing immediately suppressed her joy and swiped her fingers on the screen to answer the call.
"Bai Zhi! What's up?" Song Xing Xing spoke cheerily.
"Xing Xing!" There was a brief pause before the person suddenly broke into tears.. "I need you."
