Divine Monster Pet Evolution System

Chapter 4

C4 – The First Battle Wild Wood Monkeys

Navigating through the dense jungle, Chen Wu had thoroughly studied the system. The newly unlocked scanning feature allowed him to gain detailed information about every creature he encountered, down to the effects and characteristics of each of their abilities.

The seven-day sign-in was the most significant advantage he had seen in the system so far. The first day’s reward was a Demonic Spirit Pill, the benefits of which he had already experienced. Blood Rain, having just been tamed by him, had advanced to the strength of a Grade 2 Demonic Beast.

Chen Wu was eager to discover what the second day’s reward would be.

“Whatever it is, the seven-day rewards should be enough for me to reach Hu Wang’s level of strength. By then, I might even qualify to participate in the Flame City selection in Green-stone Town…”

Chen Wu began to strategize for the future. In the decade without the system, he had been anxious and full of dreams. Now, he could finally put his plans into action, one step at a time!

Suddenly, Chen Wu heard the sounds of battle ahead. He had reached Sand Cliff, near the heart of the Phoenix Nest Mountain Range. In his haste to evade the Blood Wolf, he hadn’t anticipated venturing so deep into the range.

The Phoenix Nest Mountain Range was home to many formidable Demonic Beasts. Even the warriors from Flame City dared not delve too deeply. Although Chen Wu had the Blood Rain at his command, its Bronze Grade 2 strength was still insufficient in the depths of the mountain range, where even Silver Level creatures were rumored to roam.

A rustling noise from the distant forest put Chen Wu on high alert.

On his shoulder, Blood Rain, now the size of a common hawk, suddenly opened its keen eyes and scanned the horizon.

“Did you sense it too?” Chen Wu asked, turning to his small companion.

Blood Rain conveyed a sense of alarm. The bond between man and beast had grown strong after their brief time together.

“Is it the presence of other Demonic Beasts? Good, let’s see what you’re capable of!”

Chen Wu wasn’t alarmed; instead, he was thrilled, his eyes brimming with an eagerness to battle.

He was eager to assess the combat prowess of the Iron-feather Eagle.

“Screech!”

Blood Rain darted through the forest at breakneck speed.

Simultaneously, an angry, piercing shriek emanated from a low tree hollow.

A yellow-haired monkey about half a meter tall sprang from the hollow. At first glance, it seemed like any ordinary monkey, but its sharp claws and dark green pupils betrayed a malevolent and ferocious nature as it bared its teeth at the Iron-feather Eagle soaring above.

This creature was a Wood Monkey, a Demonic Beast native to Phoenix Nest Mountain.

The system’s identification function quickly provided the Wood Monkey’s details:

[Creature]: Wood Monkey

[Skills]: Crack Claw, Tail Whip, Bluffing

[Potential]: Bronze High-grade

[Level]: Bronze Grade 3

Attributes define the power system for Demonic Beasts. Humans in this world categorize them into six major types: Beast-type, Insect-type, Nature-type, Plant-type, Phantom-type, and Undead-type.

These six types encompass most known species still existing in the world.

Some types are further subdivided; for example, the Nature-type includes all creatures with elemental talents such as Rock, Fire, Water, Lightning, Light, Wood, Dark, and Poison.

The Wood Monkey is of the Beast-type, which is the most expansive attribute among Demonic Beasts. Legend has it that in the ancient times, before spiritual Qi existed, there were no Demonic Beasts or divisions like Phantom-type or Nature-type; all creatures evolved from the Beast-type.

The Wood Monkey glared at the Iron-feather Eagle circling overhead, emitting an irate sound. Its diminutive body leaped agilely through the trees, closing in on Blood Rain, intent on taking down the creature that had dared to challenge it.

In the dense forest, Blood Rain’s movements were somewhat restricted, but its ability to fly provided a tactical advantage, allowing it to maintain a distance from the Wood Monkey.

Chen Wu instructed, “Blood Rain, deploy Feather Arrow!”

Though it was Chen Wu’s first time as a Demonic Beast owner, he was no stranger to Demonic Pet Battles. With a multitude of Demonic Beasts in the world and the human population thriving, the Sky-feather Empire was home to innumerable prestigious families wielding control over the Human Empire’s resources. Many of their young members had the privilege of acquiring Demonic Pets suited to them with the aid of their elders.

Every human town is protected by a formidable Demonic Pet Master. Chen Wu had often witnessed the Demonic Pet Masters from the Green-mount Town City Lord’s Mansion soaring through the skies on their Flight-type Demonic Pets, occasionally striking down powerful airborne Demonic Beasts that ventured too close!

To his surprise, the first Demonic Pet he encountered was a full Small Stage higher than Blood Rain. Yet, Yun Su was undaunted, eagerly communicating with Blood Rain in the heat of the moment.

Blood Rain heeded Yun Su’s commands. Its diminutive form suddenly twisted in midair, its wing feathers standing on end, sharp as spikes and gleaming with a dark golden sheen, exuding an aura of chilling ferocity.

With a flurry of swooshes, dozens of feathers, sharp as swords, whistled through the air, blanketing a three-meter radius as they rained down on the Wood Monkeys relentlessly pursuing them from the branches below.

The Wood Monkey emitted a panic-stricken squeal. Despite its Bronze Grade 3 status, it was still vulnerable to Blood Rain’s assault, which inflicted significant damage. In a desperate bid for escape, it leaped toward a nearby large tree.

But speed was no defense against the Iron-feathers that struck its back, burying deep into its flesh.

The Wood Monkey’s agonized screams grew louder as its rage intensified. It seized a tree branch, pulling it back like a slingshot, and with its body compressed against it, the branch snapped back. Propelled by this force, the Wood Monkey catapulted into the air. It was only five or six meters from Blood Rain and, seizing the opportunity, it stretched out its lethal claws, aiming to snatch Blood Rain from the sky.

In that moment, Chen Wu’s heart was a taut wire. This was his first time leading a Demonic Pet in combat. With only one night’s bond with Blood Rain and no professional combat training, the outcome of their clash with the Wood Monkey was anything but certain.

Though both were Bronze Level Demonic Beasts, the Iron-feather Eagle’s combat prowess, fierce will, and icy resolve far exceeded that of the Wood Monkey. Indeed, a single Iron-feather Eagle could dominate an entire tribe of its kind with its superior long-range capabilities.

Despite the close proximity and the Wood Monkey being a Grade 2, once caught, the Iron-feather Eagle would be in extreme danger!

Thankfully, Chen Wu was exceptionally composed and quickly commanded, “Execute The Hawk Strike Force and break free!”

The Hawk Strike Force, a Speeding Skill, was also a Talent Skill for many raptors, creating an instant “flowing wind layer” on the body’s surface, accelerating airflow and doubling the speed, potentially tripling it as the Iron-feather Eagle gained momentum.

Imagine a hawk plummeting from the sky in pursuit of its prey, its speed surging dramatically in mere moments.

Blood Rain heeded its master’s command, a swift layer of airflow forming around it as its speed surged, propelling Blood Rain three meters skyward in the blink of an eye!

This maneuver narrowly avoided the Wood Monkey’s grasp, forcing it to reluctantly return to the treetops below.

Chen Wu’s gaze sharpened as he urgently instructed, “Now’s the moment, while it lacks leverage, deploy the Iron Claw!”

The Iron-feather Eagle executed a swift inversion and dive, taking advantage of The Hawk Strike Force’s short-duration Wind-type enhancement, which hadn’t yet expired, doubling its velocity!

Its talons fiercely latched onto the Wood Monkey’s back, tearing away viciously!

A gory piece of flesh and skin was brutally ripped away, a sight of sheer brutality!

The Wood Monkey could only emit cries of agony, helpless in its descent.

Upon landing in the trees, its back was a gushing wound, and it let out a roar of terror, frantically leaping through the forest, the more timid ones even attempting to flee!

“Excellent work!”

Chen Wu, thrilled, pumped his fist, keeping his eyes fixed on the Wood Monkey. He wasn’t about to let it get away that easily and continued to direct, “Keep firing Feather Arrow, worsen its wounds!”

The Wood Monkey’s hide was thick, but once the wound was torn open, relentless, indiscriminate slashing at the injury would surely be fatal!

The Grade 3 Wood Monkey was incredibly swift. Despite lacking in strength, its speed caused Blood Rain to fail twice in a row, leaving the eagle visibly fatigued and disheartened.

Chen Wu quickly offered words of encouragement, “Don’t worry, Blood Rain. You’re quick, and your attacks are fierce. You need to learn to persevere and be patient, alright?”

Blood Rain immediately adjusted its state. Being an Iron-feather Eagle with a naturally strong will, it quickly regained its stamina in the air, waiting for the perfect moment to strike again!

This time, the attack landed precisely, inflicting even more damage on the Wood Monkey, which slowed down considerably.

The Iron-feather Eagle swiftly executed its Feather Arrow technique. Soon enough, the Wood Monkey’s back was riddled with feathers, resembling a porcupine, and it fell helplessly from the tree.

Without any mercy, the Iron-feather Eagle ripped open the terrified Wood Monkey’s skull, causing blood to gush forth.

Both Chen Wu and the Iron-feather Eagle were thrilled with their shared victory. This particular Iron-feather Eagle, still in its juvenile stage, would grow to have a wingspan of nearly two meters as an adult, reaching up to four meters!

It might have previously killed some birds, but it had never taken down a Demonic Beast. So, like Chen Wu, it reveled in the thrill and joy of its first triumph.

”Good job!” Chen Wu exclaimed, unable to resist stroking Blood Rain’s head. It was the first time Blood Rain had experienced such care from a human. As Chen Wu’s hand gently caressed its neck, Blood Rain shrank back slightly but then affectionately nuzzled against him, purring with delight.
