Chapter 136: Jael
Jael have three hundred and something badges, turns out the place he was sent to was an interconnected territory of the dog monsters and throughout the afternoon he made quick work of them.
So right now he's relaxing. He's under a big tree and roasting meat. Temur made it easy for them by giving them already seasoned meat that they just have to roast.
He was humming silently to himself as he gently tended to the cracking fire then he brought out monsters cores and summoned the Onus.
"There, help yourself on that." His hand transformation and Hermit began to eat as well. The forest was relatively silent if not for smaller monsters than don't even produce badges but they can make difference sounds aplenty.
Awakeners must not be concentrated here, that was what Jael thought when he was on his monsters killing spree and he must be right because he haven't seen any other Awakeners. But he knew that won't last long.
"They'll soon come this side as well. But even me don't know how big this land is and if I'm in a truly remote place. I'll eat first and think later." He brought soft brown bread with some nut inside and then spread to add soft roasted meat.
"Mmmhu!" Jael groaned when he tasted it. "It was really good the day I met you Temur. This combination of flavor! That must be why he chose the bread and meat type himself. The fat juice running into the bread...oh well!"
He took his time and enjoyed the food and even debate if he should make another potion but he stayed his hand. Unless there's an emergency they don't want to eat from the food in the forest, so controlling the food he brought is also part of the test.
He relaxed a bit as he watched the sun began it last journey for the night. "I've done well today, maybe I should go to one of the dog monster's lair to sleep. That should at least stop any predator from coming at me tonight."
Just then a scream split the air and Jael froze. 'That sounded human' he thought. 'Should I go check it out?' It sounded like a person in pain.
The same scream sounded again, followed by some sobbing words. Jael sighed and ignored it. 'That goes my rest, have the Awakeners here already?'
The sound of multiple footsteps pounding on the ground filled the air and the sound got louder before long four figures busted out the the forest. Three are after one elve male who's obviously tired and weal, maybe a poison.
"Help!"
"Come here you bastard! Just a single badge, you'll add to our collection even with your useless self!"
"He's been running since, shouldn't the effects keeps him weak? Why's he still fast?"
Maybe the elve say Jael, or maybe not but he collapsed not far from where he was sitting under the tree. Breathing hard, the elve tried to stand but stumbled and fell.
'This is the first time I'm seeing a swearing elve' Jael thought as he watched the struggling man. Those who are after him quickly surrounded him, equally breathing just as hard.
"We've got you now!"
Jael was surprised that out of those chasing him, there's two humans and one elve. Why's an elve hunting an elve? But he didn't stand from where he's siting and just continued to watch what's unfolding in front of him.
"We've got him, what should we do with him?" One of the humans asked, a nasty look on his face.
"I wish she's a girl...." the other murmured looking at the elve as if he wouldn't mind anyway.
The other elve elve shook his head. "Let's just kill him and then loot him." They all nodded to that.
Jael frowned at that and spoke for the first time. "Ehm...if you want to kill him please you should at least move forward a bit, don't get blood stain on this area."
They stiffened, of course they know that there's someone there they just don't think he's important enough since they're three in number. They are planning to deal with him before anyway after they are done with the elve on the floor.
"What are you saying?" One of the humans sneered.
Jael calmly repeated what he meant. "I'm still using this area as my place. Just move forward a bit and then you can kill him. Wait, that might even still attract monsters. Just get out of here and kill him elsewhere."
Veins throbbed on their forehead and one of the humans stayed with the one on the ground while the other two advance on him. "You'll get what's coming for you and it'll be even worse than that guy."
"Don't bring out your weapons if you are not ready to die." Jael growled, his voice dark and sharp.
"What?" One of them froze.
Jael smiled in return, he didn't take them serious at all. "I heard that somewhere. It sounds cool right?" The reason he's doing this is because he already got a feel for their powers and they are not all that.
Now they are angry and rushed him.... with their weapons out. Jael pushed out his first hand as if he's trying to beg them and that just made them lost all cautious.
But as the first one raised his weapon something like a darting shadow flashed forward and his body from the waist up was pieced.
The second guy shifted backwards as fast as he could but Jael was standing now and he followed him with his transformed hand, killing him before his surprise fully register. "Remaining you elve."
The elve shoot him a dark look. "You won't found me easy as your other human."
"I know that." Because out of the all of them he's the strongest but still not by much.
The ground in front him shuddered and he jumped away just before multiple green vines with thorns erupted out, reaching for him.
