Chapter 5: Yggdrasil ⅠⅠⅠ

Chapter 5: Yggdrasil ⅠⅠⅠ

I chose the Demon race for my next character build because demons excel at magic. So, it was the perfect choice for my magic-focused build.

They had more skills related to magic, like enhanced MP regeneration, enhanced MP, Magic Attack Nullification, etc.

It was one of the reasons I decided to play as a Demon for my next build.

My current race was that of a Doppelganger, and to create a new character build, I had to make a new variant.

To make the new variant, my new racial class Doppelgangers' Progenitor, had a skill known as Altering Invocation. It was a ritual-type skill that allowed me to make new character builds.

To perform this ritual, the player required the corpses of the desired race to be used in the new character build. So, if I wanted to play as the Demon race, I had to collect their corpses and stuff like Data Crystals.

So I had to travel to Muspelheim to gather the corpses.

~Scene Change~

Standing in Muspelheim, I beheld a desolate landscape of roaring flames and scorching heat. The air had the intense heat of the primordial fire, and the ground beneath me was rocky and blackened. Volcanic mountains rose against the horizon, and fiery geysers erupted, spewing flames into the sky. The sun, a massive ball of fire, cast a red-orange glow across the sky, adorned with swirling clouds of smoke and ash.

I could see demons and fire giants in the distance.

"Let there be carnage!"

I shouted as I ran toward the horde of low-level demons. The ritual to invoke Altering Invocation did not have any level restriction on the corpses required, but the number of corpses needed increased for the lower-level ones.

For instance, if I were dealing with level 10 demons, I'd require 1,000 of their corpses. However, for the higher level of level 50, the number of corpses needed would decrease to 450.

As I reached the horde of demons, I activated the "Quake Strike" and "Corpse Preservation" skills. The second skill, "Corpse Preservation," belonged to my racial class, Greater Doppelganger, and allowed me to preserve the corpses. Usually, the mobs disappear in motes of light when they are killed and drop their loot.

But, by using this skill, mobs, when killed, would not drop any loot, and I could store their corpses in my inventory.

Because of the massive level difference, almost all the demons in the horde died immediately.

[Congratulation for Defeating a level 10 Imp! You have received 0 EXP]

[Congratulation for Defeating a level 8 Imp! You have received 0 EXP]

..

..

I kept receiving notifications about the death of the demons, but because I was already a level 100 player, I didn't receive any EXP from killing them.

I kept killing the demons for a little longer, and it didn't take long before I had the corpses for the ritual. I already had the required number of Data Crystals. So, all that was left was to use the skill.

~Scene Change~

I traveled to my temporary base and prepared a room for the ritual. I deposited the corpses and Data Crystal in a circular pattern and positioned myself in the middle.

"Altering Invocation!"

A magical circle appeared beneath me, extending to cover the entire room. A few seconds later, I received a notification.

[The skill 'Altering Invocation' has been used, and all the necessary conditions have been fulfilled.]

[Congragulations for unlocking a new variant.]

I quickly switched to the new variant and started to edit my appearance.

My new appearance was that of a handsome young man with long crimson hair, short black horns protruding from my forehead, black sclera, golden iris, black pupil, and a pair of tiny black wings on my back.

"System, show my current status."

I added 3 State Points to MP and the remaining to Magic Attack.

'Before grinding the levels, I should think about what type of mage-focused character build I want.'

There were many types of mage-oriented job classes available in Yggdrasil. Each class gives the player different sets of skills as well as allowing the player to learn spells.

As players level up, they gain access to various spells unique to their chosen job class.

For instance, the wizard job class focuses on destructive spells such as Destructive Water, Magic Arrow, and Mana Burst.

In contrast, the mage job class offers a broader range of spells, including utility spells like Camouflage and Lesser Mind Protection. Each job class specializes in different types of magic, allowing players to customize their abilities and playstyles as they progress in the game.

In Yggdrasil and the new world, magic was categorized into ten tiers. Advancing every seven levels in any magic-oriented job class enabled players to ascend to a higher level of magic, spanning from the 1st tier to the 10th tier.

After level 70, players get access to Super Tier Magic.

A player could learn three spells per level, meaning a typical level 100 player would only have 300 in their repertoire.

Using cash shop items or specific skills like Dark Wisdom, which the original Momonga possessed, makes it possible to increase the number of spells.

After thinking for a while, I decided on destructive magic for this build. I had plans to further increase the number of spells by again using the World Item 'Ouroboros.' But that's for the future; first, let's start grinding levels.

I opened the main menu of Yggdrasil to check out the Cash Shop. It had been a few days since it went online, and there were a lot of items.

'Where are you?'

I was searching for an item to help me level up. Previously, it had taken me months to reach level 100, but this time I wanted to fasten the process.

After searching for a minute, I found the item. Its name was 'Advancement Amulet.' It was a silver pendant with an iridescent red gem, emitting a soft glow.

This item boosted the EXP gained by 50%, making leveling up a lot quicker. I bought it and immediately equipped it.

Although it boosted the EXP by 50%, it was still too slow.

'Can't wait to make my version of it.'

Another thing I wanted was to add a new skill to Doppelgangers' Progenitor; that allowed me to share the EXP with different variants. Just imagine; killing a level 100 boss with a variant whose level is also 100 and giving all the EXP to another variant whose level is low.

That will make leveling up the different variants so much easier.

'Maybe, I should start looking for "Ouroboros" again.'

I looked toward the ceiling of the room and started to contemplate. I was thinking about which racial classes and job classes I wanted.

'Let's get started.'

I exited the tomb and ventured toward Muspelheim. To level up quickly, I had a plan in mind.

The strategy is straightforward: I'll engage the demons using my level 100 hand-to-hand fighter variant to weaken them significantly. Then, I'll swiftly switch back to my current character build just in time to deliver the final blow, ensuring I receive all the EXP. This way, I can efficiently maximize my leveling progress.

It didn't take me long before I reached the hellish landscape of Muspelheim. After searching around, I found a lone level 30 Shadow Demon.

It was a Gaunt humanoid figure with bat wings attached to its back, its fingers ending in sharp claws. Its figure was pitch black, as; if created from darkness. The only other color was the eyes, a sickly glowing shade of yellow.

Switching to the Doppelganger variant, I engaged the Shadow Demon in combat. The vast level difference allowed me to inflict substantial damage even without utilizing any skills.

I left it with 5 HP and switched to my Demon variant. To get a magic-oriented job class, a player needs to kill a mob with mana.

It took 2.5 seconds to switch to my Demon variant. During this time, the demon had already recovered from the attack and was about to attack me. I quickly compressed my mana into the shape of a ball and threw it toward the Shadow Demon.

Upon the Mana ball's impact, it disappeared into motes of light and dropped some loot.

[Congragulations for defeating a level 30 Shadow Demon! You have received 5,000 EXP.]

[The effect of 'Advancement Amulet' has been applied. 5,000 EXP -> 7,500 EXP.]

[You have leveled up.]

[You have leveled up.]

[You have leveled up.]

[You have leveled up.]

In total, I obtained 28 State Points. After allocating 8 points to MP and 8 points to Magical Attack, I evenly distributed the remaining points among all the other states.

I also received a notification telling me about the available job classes I had.

[Classes Available: Arcanist, Mage, Wizard]

Because I wanted to focus on destructive magic, I chose the Wizard job class and leveled it up to level 2. Upon gaining two levels, it granted access to 15 spells, from which I selected 12 to add to my repertoire.

I didn't pick the other two job classes because they lacked destructive magic spells.

I leveled up my racial class to level 2, unlocking some new passives.

One of the passives increased my MP by another 2 points. So, now I had 15 MP at level 4.

'Time to grind more levels.'

~Scene Change~

~Third Person~

In the middle of a forest clearing, two heteromorphic players found themselves encircled by a group of nine other players.

One of the heteromorphic players was a giant wearing dark red samurai armor and holding a Katana in his right hand.

The second one could be described in one word: Ninja. He wore the stereotypical black ninja outfit, a weird mask, and two swords at his waist. Both of them were standing back to back.

???: "We're outnumbered, but we won't back down!"

With determination in his eyes, the giant addressed his companion, hoping to boost their morale.

???: "Fear not! I've sent a message to Touch. He's on his way, and we have to hold out until he arrives!"

The ninja spoke while inspecting the group of human players.

Giant: "Who needs him to defeat these punny players."

Without wasting any time, the giant lunged toward one of the human players. The speed at which he moved didn't match his hulking figure.

The human player wasn't able to react in time and received the slash from the Katana of the giant. But the giant didn't stop at that and kept slashing the player from various angles.

Giant: "RECEIVE MY ULTIMATE COMBO! SYNAPSE COMBOO!"

As soon as the giant stopped screaming, the human player had already disappeared into motes of light.

The other players were dumbfounded at the spectacle. The whole ordeal only took 2 seconds. Leveraging their shock, the ninja also attacked the players using his skills.

Reaching behind one of the players, he utilized one of his most potent skills, "Headshot." Resulting in the death of the player. But he didn't stop there; he swiftly turned to the other player and executed his skill "Arm Slice," inflicting a massive amount of damage upon them.

???: "SHIT! Noir and Shindo are down!"

One of the human players exclaimed that took all the others out of their trance.

???: "You'll pay for that!"

One of the players attacked the giant using a war hammer while another player chanted a spell to attack him.

On the other hand, another player attacked the ninja using a great sword while another aimed at him with a bow.

After fighting for 5 minutes, both the heteromorphic players were at their last breath. They were able to kill two more human players.

???: "I'll finish them."

One of the players started chanting a spell. But before he could even utter its name, everyone in the area heard a voice.

"Hello there."
