Chapter 45 Is This Love?

Chapter 45 Is This Love?

Yao Cheng was a bit surprised at the discomfiture he had noted in his father’s demeanor. His father had been in the political arena for a very long time and had, therefore, long since established his influence and foothold. That said, his father would never act like this even in the face of an official with a superior rank.

As curious as he was, Yao Cheng kept any questions to himself; it was an inappropriate time to ask.

“Father, this is brother Wang Feng, the one I asked to examine your health. You’re not against it or anything, right? I’ve actually heard great things about brother Wang Feng’s medical skills,” Yao Cheng said quickly, hoping to diffuse the awkwardness in the room.

A strange glint flashed in Yao Yuan’s eyes at his son’s remark. “Oh?” He said, looking a bit relieved.

A lot of hospitals had failed to cure his health problem. It was an old problem, so the hospital usually just gave him a prescription to alleviate the pain instead of treating the root cause of the problem.

At first, Yao Yuan did not have high hopes for the so-called “doctor” that his son had arranged for him to see. After all, in this society, charlatan doctors were everywhere.

But now, as he saw Wang Feng standing before him, he could not help but feel that his son had finally did something worthwhile. Yao Yuan had once tried, but failed, to acquire Gui Jianchou’s services. But if Wang Feng was Gui Jianchou’s disciple, how much worse could his skills be?

“Then I’ll be in your care, brother Wang Feng,” Yao Yuan said courteously and without much thought.

In fact, Yao Yuan was already halfway through removing his pajama shirt when he spoke just now. The shirt came off, revealing a muscular torso. It was clear that he was unlike those other officials who only knew how to eat, drink, and have fun. None of those officials had a body like this.

There was a bullet scar on his arm. Although it was fully healed, anyone could see that it was a scar left by a bullet wound.

“What seems to be the problem, uncle?” Wang Feng asked.

Before Yao Yuan could speak, Yao Cheng beat him to it. “Oh, it’s like this. My dad took a bullet in the arm during the war back in the day. They’d removed the bullet, but since then, his arm has been feeling sore. We went to a lot of doctors, but none of them could help. I wonder if you have any ideas, bro?”

“I understand,” Wang Feng said, reaching out his hand. “Uncle, please allow me to examine your arm.”

“Alright.” Yao Yuan placed his arm into Wang Feng’s hand without hesitation.

Wang Feng did not take his pulse like what normal doctors would do. The truth was that Wang Feng had already begun observing the inner structure of Yao Yuan’s arm with his X-ray vision the moment the arm was placed in his hand.

It was a long moment before Wang Feng spoke again. “Uncle, your arm is in its current state due to poor postoperative care. Some of the arteries and veins in your arm are blocked, causing poor circulation. That’s why your arm will constantly feel sore. This is a small matter,” said Wang Feng.

In that moment, everyone present except Bei Yunxue was taken by shock. “Wang Feng did not even take his pulse. How on earth did he diagnose all that?” They thought.

Admittedly, Yao Cheng had doubts regarding Wang Feng’s medical skills at first. But now, after what he just witnessed, he dared not hold any more doubts. Wang Feng was the first person who could diagnose his father’s condition without the help of any medical equipment.

“How long will it take for it to heal?” Yao Yuan asked. Seeing the look of confidence on Wang Feng’s face, Yao Yuan could not help but feel a surge of hope.

“Gui Jianchou’s disciple really is something else,” Yao Yuan thought. “It’s no wonder that even the Chief Minister seeks Gui Jianchou’s services. I bet Gui Jianchou’s skills are far more shocking.”

“Oh. It’s just a small matter. It’ll take only a minute. But it’s going to sting a little, so you must endure,” Wang Feng said. Yao Yuan nodded in response and said, “Don’t worry. I can endure any pain.”

“Then please excuse me,” Wang Feng said. All of a sudden, Wang Feng raised his right palm, and then slammed it against the bullet scar.

Everything happened far too quickly. Yao Cheng could not have stopped it even if he wanted to.

The sound of broken bones that Yao Cheng had been expecting did not come. Instead, he saw Wang Feng lowering Yao Yuan’s arm slowly. “Uncle, your problem is fully solved. From now on, you’ll never experience any weakness in your arm again,” said Wang Feng.

“Huh?” Everyone present nearly fell flat on their faces at Wang Feng’s declaration. “Just one slap, and that’s it? Voila. Problem solved? Surely you’re joking?” They all thought.

Of course, none of them knew what Wang Feng had actually done just now. What Wang Feng did was using his own energy to destroy the object that had been obstructing the arteries. It was a feat that could only be achieved through the fine and precise strength control.

If he lacked the control, that strike would have no doubt broken Yao Yuan’s arm.

“The problem is solved. Take an X-ray if you don’t believe me. After that you’ll find out for sure whether I’m right or not,” Wang Feng said in his usual composed tone.

Of course, Wang Feng would not have made such baseless claims if he himself was not fully convinced of their truth. Through his X-ray vision, Wang Feng had, in fact, confirmed that the problem was resolved.

“Then please hold on. There’s a hospital in our district that is responsible for our safety. Let’s go check it out now,” Yao Cheng said. He truly could not bring himself to believe Wang Feng. Yao Cheng pulled Yao Yuan to his feet before leading him outside.

Ten minutes later, the two men returned with looks of shock on their faces. The look they gave Wang Feng was now filled with awe and reverence.

Wang Feng was right. The problem that had plagued Yao Yuan for over a decade had now been solved in a single palm-strike. It was not just a quick fix, either. It was well and truly healed.

Wang Feng’s medical skills were virtually miraculous. None of them could hold back their surprise.

“Bro, I’ve really got to hand it to you, man.” Yao Cheng gave another thumbs-up.

“Haha. Nah. It’s no big deal,” Wang Feng said, smiling nonchalantly. He did not mind doing it at all. At first, Yao Cheng and his family wanted to reward Wang Feng with a sum of money. But Wang Feng refused to take the reward.

Wang Feng came here today out of respect for Yao Cheng. It was his form of repayment, so he would not accept any kind of reward. Otherwise, Wang Feng would think himself as the petty type who had a penchant for forgetting other people’s kindness.

Of course, Wang Feng’s refusal to take the offered reward had made Yao Cheng hold Wang Feng in a much higher regard. In the end, Wang Feng and Bei Yunxue were asked to stay for a meal.

When they were all seated at the dining table, Yao Yuan realized that unlike Gui Jianchou, Wang Feng was actually sociable. Slowly, Yao Yuan began to relax too.

“Wang Feng, this time you’ve become the hero of Zhu Hai City. Do you know what people around here are calling you? The city’s Superman,” Yao Yuan said with a smile and without condescension.

“I just know a few lame techniques, that’s all. I’m nothing like Superman,” Wang Feng said, shaking his head, refusing to accept the title that was bestowed upon him.

“Don’t worry, if you encounter any problems in Zhu Hai City next time, please come to me. If it’s within my power to help you, I will not hesitate to do so,” Yao Yuan said. Then he raised his wine glass and finished its contents.

“I thank you for your kindness.” After that, Wang Feng took a glass of white wine and finished it without hesitation.

Yao Yuan was one of the top government officials in Zhu Hai City. Who knew he might really need Yao Yuan’s help in the near future. Wang Feng did not reject Yao Yuan’s kind offer.

The sight of Wang Feng finishing his white wine in one gulp impressed Yao Yuan greatly. “Haha. Candid indeed!” Yao Yuan said, laughing.

The meal proceeded in harmony. Yao Yuan told quite a number of tales of his combat experience, which evoked poignant feelings in Wang Feng and Bei Yunxue.

In the end, when they were leaving, Wang Feng could barely walk on his own and had to be helped by Bei Yunxue into the car. He had drunk a lot today; his brain had been feeling fuzzy for quite a while.

Seeing that Wang Feng and Bei Yunxue had already left, Yao Cheng did not beat around the bush. “Dad, you were looking at Wang Feng strangely at first. Is there a problem?” He asked, disclosing his doubts.

“Son. Be nice and strike up a friendship with Wang Feng. If you can be on his good side in the future, I assure you that you’ll be able to reach great heights,” Yao Yuan said, patting Yao Cheng’s shoulder. His words confused Yao Cheng even further.

Before Yao Cheng could ask, he saw that his father had already conked out on the couch.

His father and Wang Feng had drunk a lot today. Yao Cheng had never seen his father so happy before. In fact, he seemed even happier than the time when he was first appointed as the secretary of the municipal council.

But now, his father was inebriated. He had lost his chance to ask anything else.

Back at No.1 Zhu Cheng, Bei Yunxue was confounded by a predicament of her own; Wang Feng lay there on the passenger seat like a dead pig, obviously incapable of movement.

Bei Yunxue glanced at the villa and noted the pitch darkness inside. Obviously, Tang Airou had yet to return home. In a situation like this, her abilities truly fell short of her desire to help; after all, how could she, a woman, be capable of moving a grown man?

Then again, she did not have the heart to leave Wang Feng out here in the car like this. In the end, she decided to move Wang Feng back into the house.

With much physical exertion, she finally got Wang Feng into his bed, at which point she was already drenched with sweat. Heck, she could barely stand up straight after all that. “This Wang Feng is too godd*mn heavy,” she grumbled inwardly.

Before she could move away from Wang Feng’s body, she felt a pair of strong arms snaking around her waist. The arms slipped under her arms and wrapped themselves around her waist, reaching all the way to her back. In the end, she found herself trapped in a tight hug.

“Wang Feng, let go,” Bei Yunxue said in a mild panic.

It then occurred to her that some men were inclined to have casual sex when drunk. But how was she even supposed to remove herself from this situation with her meagre strength?

Wang Feng’s arms were like a pair of pliers, trapping her in a hug so tight that it had rendered her incapable of even the slightest movement.

At that point, her body was pressed tightly against Wang Feng and her face was burning as if it were set on fire. All of a sudden, she was hit by a mild feeling of impending doom. “Don’t tell me I’ll be...” She dared not finish that thought.

She waited it out for a while, though she did not notice any further movement from Wang Feng. She could only hear the sounds of his breathing, and that was all.

Raising her head, she saw that although Wang Feng’s arms were still wrapped around her waist tightly, he seemed to have fallen asleep.

Inwardly, she heaved a sigh of relief. Then she tried to release herself from the confines of Wang Feng’s arms, but to no avail. No matter how much strength she put forth, she remained trapped. She could not escape his grip at all.

The thick scent of alcohol hit her nose, causing her to frown slightly. When she stared at Wang Feng’s calm face though, she suddenly felt a sense of peace in her heart.

In order to protect her, this young man had risked his own life and went up against a bunch of armed robbers. If Wang Feng had not been there at the time, she could not even imagine what would have happened to her.

She had met all kinds of men before; the handsome ones, the brilliant and talented ones, even the young and rich ones. But none of them could provide her with the sense of peace that she was feeling right now.

It was then that she realized something: she could no longer bring herself to let Wang Feng go. In other words, she had fallen in love with Wang Feng.

Although Wang Feng was penniless and had no status to speak of, she was still unwilling to let him go.

The sound of her voice echoed in the quiet room. “Is this love?”
