Chapter 34: Questions Left Unanswered
Chapter 34: Questions Left Unanswered
"Good morning mistress." Glade said to Sylph who is now locked up inside a room within the castle. Her bow and arrows have been confiscated and, all possible escape routes have been blocked. Various soldiers also surrounded the area, making it impossible for her to fight her way through without her weapons.
"I heard you got promoted. Congratulations, you'd have someone new to betray now." Sylph said, facing the window and refusing to look at Glade. It is painful for her after all, knowing that the companion she trusted the most is actually a secret spy.
"Now don't go and make me the villain now. I just played my part in all of this. Plus, the show's not even over yet." He said, smiling at Sylph who still refused to look at him.
"Well if that's how you want it, I guess I'll be going now." He continued.
Glade had a lot of things to do for the day. With him being the second in command to General Erio, he now has a large control over the military and, he even has access to places that most people cannot enter. One of this being the prison where Hark is being kept.
The place runs underground meaning, everyone who wishes to enter it needs to pass through the entrance on the surface. Stationed there are two guards who, after seeing Glade, immediately saluted.
"At ease." Glade said, telling the guards that he wishes to be permitted inside.
"But sir, the King and General Erio have instructed that nobody should be permitted inside until the execution is done with."
"Are you questioning my authority solider?' Glade responded, placing a chilling grin on his face.
"N-no sir of course not." At this, the soldiers opened the entrance, creating a staircase that leads spirally down.
Nobody has ever escaped the elven prison for a lot of reasons. A primary part is because, there are carnivorous worms that have been placed around the prison. Any prisoner who tries getting away by digging through the ground will only end up as food for these worms. The second reason is because, the walls are made up of the wood of the ancient [Elemental Tree]. The said tree had its name because it absorbs any and all elements as its source of nutrients. Thus, even if some parts of the prison are damaged, all that is needed is to feed a bit of element into the prison and it will restore itself.
Glade descended the area and went straight to the elevator stationed on the top floor. The machinery works on magic crystals that controls gravity. There is no advanced mechanism in the city of Elysium after all. What they rely on are mostly made of natural materials.
"Bottom floor." Glade said, making the operator open a magic circle and spinning it to the symbol that meant 'bottom'.
As he descended, Glade heard the agonizing cries of the prisoners held there. A sound that kept getting weaker as he went further down. With a prison such as this, it gets harder to breathe as one goes down. Even Glade is now experiencing the same effects as he goes further.
Then, he finally reached the bottom cell. One which only contained a single prisoner, tied up in chains who can barely move and has been doing his best just to breathe.
"Hey, how's it going. I brought you some food." Glade said, throwing a pouch inside the cell.
Normally, food cannot be given to prisoners as they already have their daily rations. However, the guard didn't stop Glade anymore. He knows the current rank of the elf who threw it and, he's been trained to be on the good side of his commanding officers.
"You'll be dead tomorrow so you should at least eat to your heart's content." Glade said sarcastically.
At this, Glade moved on and offered food to every person inside every cell. He gave the same pouch but, of a smaller size.
"There you go."
"And one for yuou."
"And another for you."
The guards didn't stop him and thought that, this is the Vice-General's way of showing kindness after his appointment to the position. After all this, he went back to the surface, sweating heavily but satisfied nonetheless.
"Tomorrow's the day huh." He said out loud and, as moved away, his face twisted into a hair-raising smile.
"Oh what's this?" Glade said, looking at his necklace which began glowing.
"Looks like I have some visitors."
Meanwhile, Zeke and Allesiah have just entered the city through an underground path. This area is shown in the last memory piece that Zeke viewed. As far as he can tell, only members of the Leonis household knows of this pathway. There are no troubles encountered because the place is simply a route, not a place where people stay at.
"How did you find this place master?" Allesiah asked.
"Let's just say that, I've got some really conventional means of information." He replied.
The two moved quickly, knowing that they have no time to waste. Zeke gave the details to Allesiah as they moved along and, though a large part of it seems to be too villainous to be acted out, the plan could nevertheless work.
"That's it, the end of the tunnel." Zeke said, pointing to a spot on the ceiling that he's able to move. The ground opened up and, true enough they are now safely within the city, hiding in a spot that almost nobody ever comes to.
That's why both of them are surprise as they heard someone speak.
"Well what do we have here?"
Zeke and Allesiah immediately turned to find Glade standing right in front of them. Zeke knows that they can't make any sudden movement as the soldiers could come with the commotion. That's why the two of them stood still, and so did Glade.
"You are really full of surprises." Glade said.
"So are you." Zeke replied, placing another piece of the puzzle into place.
Beads of sweat formed on Zeke's forehead and he felt his own heart pumping nervously. There are a lot of preparations he needs to do. He doesn't plan to fight the whole of the capital unprepared and so, his mind raced for possible solutions once again.
"I won't stop you from whatever it is that you are scheming. For all I care, you'd greatly help me in accomplishing my goals." Glade said.
He then threw a map and two communication bracelets to the two. The bracelet is made for all soldiers of the capital. This ensures that any order is acted upon quickly. The bracelet will also explode once it detects that a non-soldier wears it. That's why, Gale modified the ones he gave in order for the effect to not activate.
"That map has red dots all over it. Those are the areas where the soldiers will be. The green spots are the safe areas and, the houses with names are the ones where the wicked nobles are staying." Glade finished, leaving both Zeke and Allesiah at a loss for words.
"Why are you helping us?" Zeke said, holding on to the map.
"That's a secret. But like I said, you guys may benefit me so I'll pretend that I didn't see you." At this Glade walked away.
"Uhmm what just happened?" Allesiah asked.
"Beats me." Zeke replied, dissolving the map and letting the [Gamer's System] integrate the data.
He then opened the minimap which now holds all the information that they need. What Zeke plans to do is the same tactic he used in the [Trial island]. With the locations of the soldiers and civilians in place, the operation would be done more accurately and safer.
"But I'll gladly welcome the assistance he gave us." Zeke said, throwing the communication bracelet to Allesiah.
"Change our appearances and give me elf ears." Zeke ordered to Allesiah who immediately followed his words. After this, the two came out of the alley and proceeded to do their parts. Night has already come and, with the darkened capital, the two can move swiftly and accurately.
Zeke began going around town, maximizing the [Mana Conversion] skill and planting [Poison Cloud] using his [Detonate]. Although he just wants to kill of the guards, it may cause an alarm making things more difficult.
What Zeke made Allesiah perform is a transportation spell circle. It's a spell that anybody can use because all that's needed is the creation of the magic circle on the ground. This needs to be on two spots. One on the entrance and, the other is on the exit. It's a onetime spell so after using it, the magic circle will dissolve. The number which it can transport is purely dependent on the amount of mana invested.
That's why Zeke made Allesiah stay at an unnoticed alleyway near the center of the capital. She immediately began her part, having an easier time gathering mana as her staff helps her to gain it from her surroundings. Coupling it with her personal training on mana manipulation made the work even more bearable.
On the Windsprite manor, all the butlers and maids used up their mana in order to supply the magic circle. The whole process would Take Allesiah and the servants half a night to finish it and, once they do, all that's left is rest and wait for the next day.
Before the execution could commence, Zeke and Allesiah will save everyone.
