Chapter 34
C34 – Jiang Chen, the Second-year Prodigy!
It felt like his mouth was crammed full of bones, and his face was being ground against the dining table. Earring Boy was on the verge of losing his mind.
He fought desperately to escape Wang Xiao’s grip.
But Wang Xiao’s grip was unyielding, and no matter how much Earring Boy struggled, he couldn’t break free.
“Kid, let go of me now, or I swear I’ll end you!”
Earring Boy gritted his teeth and roared at Wang Xiao.
Wang Xiao wasn’t intimidated by the threat. A smirk played on his lips as he pushed Earring Boy’s head down and gave it another rough rub against the table.
“This punk thinks he can take on Brother Li? Let’s jump him and finish this!”
At that moment, Earring Boy’s friends caught on. Their expressions darkened as they shouted together.
With that, they balled their fists and charged at Wang Xiao.
Soong Ming, Feng Lee, and Lin Hua moved to shield Wang Xiao, but he gestured for them to stand down.
“No need to fight; I’ve got this,” Wang Xiao said, his voice steady.
Seeing Wang Xiao’s resolve, Soong Ming and the others halted their advance.
“But there’s a whole bunch of them. Are you sure you can handle it?” Soong Ming couldn’t help but voice his concern.
“Don’t worry, boss. Third Bro’s got this.”
Lin Hua confidently reassured Soong Ming with a grin before Wang Xiao could reply.
He had seen Wang Xiao’s prowess firsthand the day before; Wang Xiao had effortlessly taken down Yun Yi and his crew.
Handling this group would be no sweat.
Reassured by Lin Hua’s confidence, Soong Ming stepped aside, though he kept a watchful eye on the unfolding scene, ready to jump in if anything went south.
In an instant, Earring Boy’s crew was upon Wang Xiao, fists flying from every direction, closing in for the kill.
Wang Xiao was trapped, with danger closing in from all sides!
The onlooking girls couldn’t contain their screams.
Bang, bang, bang…
In the nick of time, Wang Xiao seized Earring Boy, still pinned to the table, and used him as a human shield.
In a split second, a barrage of fists pummeled Earring Boy’s body.
“Ugh…”
Earring Boy’s eyes bulged with fury as he locked his gaze on Wang Xiao, his eyes brimming with resentment. Agonizing pain surged through him, overwhelming his senses.
Despicable!
To think he was used as a human shield!
“What, Brother Li!”
Earring Boy’s companion’s face drained of color when he realized their mistake. He turned to Earring Boy, who they had just thrashed, and exclaimed in dismay.
“You bunch of morons, you got the wrong guy!”
Earring Boy couldn’t contain his fury as he lashed out at his friends.
Whoosh!
The onlooking students paused, then burst into uncontrollable laughter.
They had never witnessed such a farcical scene before.
Their leader had been clobbered by his own underling.
Talk about a loss of face!
“Yeah, you’ve cleaned out the dishes on the table pretty well. You must have been starving.”
In that moment, Wang Xiao glanced at the table before turning back to Earring Boy with a smile. He then released his grip, setting Earring Boy free.
“Curse you, kid, I’m going to kill you.”
Regaining his freedom, Earring Boy advanced two steps, his face contorted with rage as he turned back to Wang Xiao and hissed.
He was just about to make his move against Wang Xiao when…
“What’s all this commotion? Why so loud? Little Li, haven’t you found the table I asked for?”
Just then, a deep, authoritative voice cut through the noise from behind Earring Boy.
A handsome young man in a casual suit approached with measured steps, a stunningly beautiful girl by his side.
“Good heavens, it’s Jiang Chen, one of the sophomore year’s Big Four and from a wealthy family. What’s he doing in the cafeteria?”
“Exactly. With Jiang Chen’s means, there’s no way he’d dine in the cafeteria like the rest of us.”
The upperclassmen who recognized the Handsome Man gasped in surprise, their expressions a mix of awe and disbelief.
But it didn’t take long for them to realize why Jiang Chen was there – their attention quickly shifted to the gorgeous girl accompanying him.
“Look, it’s Yu Meini, the belle of the Traditional Chinese Medicine System, the sophomore goddess. My god, why is she with Jiang Chen?”
“It makes sense that Jiang Chen would show up in the cafeteria,” someone remarked.
“Yeah, I’ve heard Jiang Chen has been pursuing Goddess Yu Meini for over a year. She hasn’t accepted his advances, but she hasn’t refused to share a meal with him either. Jiang Chen’s chances seem pretty good.”
The sophomore students were abuzz with gossip, their chatter adding a lively atmosphere to the expansive dining hall.
“Young Master Jiang!” Earring Boy’s face took on a respectful expression as Jiang Chen approached. He bowed and then, pointing at Wang Xiao, said with a serious tone, “We found a table, but these freshmen are causing trouble. I got into a bit of a conflict with them and I’m about to handle it.”
His eyes glinted with malice as he spoke.
“Then handle it quickly, and don’t interrupt Meini and me while we’re eating.”
Jiang Chen responded with a cool detachment, not even sparing Wang Xiao and his group a glance, as if they were beneath his notice.
“Yes, Young Master Jiang!”
Earring Boy, energized by the acknowledgment, nodded vigorously. Turning to Wang Xiao, he sneered, “Kid, you’re done for today.”
“We’ll see if you’re up to the task,” Wang Xiao replied evenly, unfazed.
Earring Boy was about to signal his friends to move on Wang Xiao when he was abruptly stopped.
“Stop!”
A crisp female voice cut through the tension, halting Earring Boy in his tracks.
Yu Meini stepped forward, her gaze sweeping over Wang Xiao with a hint of uncertainty before she asked, “Is it you?”
“Hey, gorgeous, what a surprise to bump into you here. Talk about destiny. So, did anyone manage to steal your wallet today?”
Wang Xiao, recognizing Yu Meini, flashed a mischievous grin.
Yu Meini was dressed to impress that day, in a loose white jersey that hung down to her thighs. The outfit did little to conceal her curves and showcased her shapely, long legs, which were clad in black thigh-high stockings. Her delicate feet were encased in blue canvas shoes.
She exuded a lively cuteness, with a hint of allure amidst her innocence.
“Yesterday was just an accident. It’s not like someone’s going to steal my wallet every day.”
Upon hearing Wang Xiao’s words, Yu Meini’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment, clearly aware that he was playfully referencing the previous day’s incident. She bit her lip and pouted in mock annoyance.
Her playful pout, so characteristic of a young girl, immediately captured the gaze of every male nearby.
Hiss…
In that instant, nearly all the men drew in a sharp breath, their eyes fixated on Yu Meini.
Truly befitting her title as the belle of the Traditional Chinese Medicine department in her sophomore year, even a simple pout from her was mesmerizingly beautiful.
Soong Ming drooled openly, and even Feng Lee, Lin Hua, and others were captivated, while Wang Xiao himself was momentarily spellbound.
He had always known Yu Meini was stunning, but this was his first encounter with her coquettish side, and it made his heart flutter.
“Cough cough, really? No stolen wallet, that’s good to hear.”
Wang Xiao quickly snapped back to reality, clearing his throat and feigning nonchalance.
“Meini, is this guy a friend of yours?”
At that moment, Jiang Chen spoke up, casting a casual glance at Wang Xiao before turning to smile at Yu Meini, his face betraying no emotion.
Yet inwardly, he felt a cold unease. The woman he fancied was showing an uncommon interest in another man, and he didn’t like it one bit.
“Yes, he’s helped me before.”
Yu Meini nodded in response, deliberately vague about the details of yesterday’s event, as she considered Jiang Chen merely an acquaintance.
“I see.” Jiang Chen responded with a subdued smile, then turned to extend a hand to Wang Xiao. “My apologies for earlier, little brother. Little Li can be rash. Since we’re all acquainted, let’s put the incident behind us.”
With a few deft words, Jiang Chen managed to downplay the situation impressively.
Even Earring Boy, who stood behind him, seemed unperturbed by the resolution, prompting Wang Xiao to regard Jiang Chen with newfound respect.
“Considering you’re all friends of Yu Meini, let’s indeed leave the matter in the past.”
Wang Xiao didn’t take Jiang Chen’s hand. Instead, he gestured towards Yu Meini and addressed Jiang Chen, Earring Boy, and the rest with a grave tone.
He hadn’t been at a disadvantage just now, after all.
Jiang Chen’s face momentarily stiffened as Wang Xiao blatantly disregarded his extended hand, a flicker of icy resentment passing through his gaze.
